Seismic reliability analysis of structures based on cumulative damage failure mechanism

  • Non-stationary random seismic response and reliability of multi-degree of freedom hysteretic structure system are studied based on the cumulative damage failure mechanism. First, dynamic Eqs. of multi-degree of freedom hysteretic structure system under earthquake action are established. Secondly, the random seismic response of a multi-degree freedom hysteretic structure system is investigated by the combination of virtual excitation and precise integration. Finally, according to the damage state level of structural, the different damage state probability of high-rise frame structure is calculated based on the boundary value of the cumulative damage index in the seismic intensity earthquake area. The results show that under the same earthquake intensity and the same floor quality and stiffness, the lower the floor is, the greater the damage probability of the building structure is; if the structural floor stiffness changes abruptly, the weak layer will be formed, and the cumulative damage probability will be the largest, and the reliability index will be relatively small. Meanwhile, with the increase of fortification intensity, the reliability of three-level structure fortification is also significantly reduced. This method can solve the problem of non-stationary random seismic response and reliability of high-rise buildings, and it has high efficiency and practicability. It is instructive for structural performance design and estimating the age of the structure.

An efficient simulation method for reliability analysis of systems with expensive-to-evaluate performance functions

  • This paper proposes a novel reliability analysis method which computes reliability index, most probable point and probability of failure of uncertain systems more efficiently and accurately with compared to Monte Carlo, first-order reliability and response surface methods. It consists of Initial and Simulation steps. In Initial step, a number of space-filling designs are selected throughout the variables space, and then in Simulation step, performances of most of samples are estimated via interpolation using the space-filling designs, and only for a small number of the samples actual performance function is used for evaluation. In better words, doing so, we use a simple interpolation function called "reduced" function instead of the actual expensive-to-evaluate performance function of the system to evaluate most of samples. By using such a reduced function, total number of evaluations of actual performance is significantly reduced; hence, the method can be called Reduced Function Evaluations method. Reliabilities of six examples including series and parallel systems with multiple failure modes with truncated and/or non-truncated random variables are analyzed to demonstrate efficiency, accuracy and robustness of proposed method. In addition, a reliability-based design optimization algorithm is proposed and an example is solved to show its good performance.

와이블과정을 응용한 신뢰성 성장 모형에서의 MTBF 추정$^+$ (MTBF Estimator in Reliability Growth Model with Application to Weibull Process)

  • In reliability analysis, the time difference between the expected next failure time and the current failure time or the Mean Time Between Failure(MTBF) is of significant interest. Until recently, in reliability growth studies, the reciprocal of the intensity function at current failure time has been used as being equal to MTBE($t_n$)at the n-th failure time $t_n$. That is MTBF($t_n$)=l/$\lambda (t_n)$. However, such a relationship is only true for Homogeneous Poisson Process(HPP). Tsokos(1995) obtained the upper bound and lower bound for the MTBF($t_n$) and proposed an estimator for the MTBF($t_n$) as the mean of the two bounds. In this paper, we provide the estimator for the MTBF($t_n$) which does not depend on the value of the shape parameter. The result of the Monte Carlo simulation shows that the proposed estimator has better efficiency than Tsokos's estimator.

Accelerated Creep Testing of Geogrids for Slopes and Embankments: Statistical Models and Data Analysis

  • The failure of geogrids can be defined as an excessive creep strain which causes the collapse of slopes and embankments. In this study, the accelerated creep tests were applied to two different types of polyester geogrids, at 75, 80, 85$^{\circ}C$ by applying 50% load of ultimate tensile strengths using a newly designed test equipment which is allowed the creep testing at higher temperatures. And then the creep curves were shifted and superposed in the time axis by applying time-temperature supposition principles. In predicting the lifetimes of geogrids, the underlying distribution for failure times were determined based on identification of the failure mechanism. The results indicate that the conventional procedures with the newly designed test equipment are shown to be effective in prediction of the lifetimes of geogrids with shorter test times. In addition, the predicted lifetimes of geogrids having different structures at various creep strains give guidelines for users to select the proper geogrids in the fields.

  • This paper reviews methods used to perform reliability and availability analysis of the network system composed by nodes and links. The combination of nodes and links forms virtual connections (VC). The failure of several VCs cause failure of whole network system. Petri Net models are used to analyze the reliability and availability. Stochastic reward nets (SRN) is an extension of stochastic Petri nets provides modelling facilities for network system analysis.

  • In order to consider statistical properties of probability variables used in the structural analysis, the conventional approach using the safety factor based on past experience usually estimated the safety of a structure. Also, the real structures could only be analyzed with the error in estimation of loads, material characters and the dimensions of the members. But the errors should be considered systematically in the structural analysis. In this paper, we estimated the probability of failure of the pressure vessel. And also, this paper presents sensitivity values of the random variable. Finally, we show that reliability index and probability of failure can present the tolerance limit of dimension of randam variables.

운전조건이 변화하는 공정설비의 신뢰도 분석기법 (A Method for Reliability Analysis of Process Facilities under Changing Operating Conditions)

  • 공정설비의 신뢰도분석은 자주 Weibull 분포에 기초를 둔 모델을 사용한다. 여기에 사용되는 매개변수들은 조업조건의 함수로서 실험에 의해 값이 결정되며 이를 토대로 신뢰도, 평균수명 및 표준편차를 계산한다 이때 기존 방법은 조업조건이 일정하다고 가정하고 이 매개변수들을 상수로 취급한다. 본 논문에서는 척도모수가 시간의 함수일 때 적용할 수 있는 신뢰도함수 및 이를 토대로 한 분석기법을 제안한다. 냉각팬에 대한 사례연구 결과 평균조업조건을 적용한 기존 방법과 큰 차이를 보였다. 제안된 방법은 다른 공정설비들에도 적용 가능하며 조업조건변화가 설비신뢰도에 미치는 영향을 효과적으로 고려할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • In reliability engineering, failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action system (FRACAS) is an useful tool for effective failure reporting and related operations. FRACAS is generally mainly focused on implementation of its closed-loop process, but also includes various related information which has to be effectively managed such as failure types, failure modes, failure mechanisms, and corrective actions. In this study, we adopt and utilize the concept of process knowledge, and create it through abstraction of FRACAS information. At each step of closed-loop process, the necessary type of knowledge, priority and usability are clearly defined. This study also suggests corresponding management tools such as business process management system, knowledge management system, and their key elements and functions to deal with process knowledge. A prototype system using simple closed-loop process with its process knowledge is presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed work.

  • 글로벌 경쟁 상황에 처한 현대의 모든 기업들은 고객의 니즈를 충족시키고, 이를 통한 경쟁력을 강화하기 위한 방안으로서 서비스를 이해하기 시작하면서 서비스에 대한 관심이 날로 증가하고 있다. 기업들이 제공하는 제품이나 서비스의 가치는 주로 고객과 서비스 제공자 간의 관계에서 형성되는 만족도의 정도로 정의되는 서비스 신뢰도에 의해 크게 좌우된다. 본 연구에서는, 유형의 제품이나 시스템의 실패 유형과 영향을 평가하는데 널리 사용되는 FMEA를 서비스의 신뢰도 평가에 적용하였다. 이를 위해, 서비스의 설계와 서비스 기능과 실패 간의 관계를 용이하게 표현할 수 있는 사건중심 프로세스 모델을 이용하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 서비스 프로세스 관점에서의 서비스 신뢰도를 평가하는 방법을 제시하는 것으로서, 이를 위해 fuzzy FMEA와 grey 이론을 이용하였다. 제안된 방법은 자동차정비 프로세스 사례에 적용하여 평가하였다.

혼성제 직립 케이슨의 활동에 대한 부분안전계수 산정 (Evaluation of Partial Safety Factors on Sliding of Monolithic Vertical Caisson of Composite Breakwaters)

  • 혼성제 케이슨의 활동파괴모드에 대한 목표파괴수준에 따른 저항 및 하중 그리고 신뢰함수의 부분안 전계수를 산정하였다. 이를 위해 파력의 편이를 고려한 혼성제 케이슨의 활동파괴모드에 대한 신뢰함수를 수립하 고, 관련 확률변수의 불확실성에 대해 분석하였다. Level II AFDA 해석법을 이용하여 여러 수심조건 및 단면조건 그리고 파랑조건에 대해 신뢰성 해석을 수행하였다. 특히 대산항, 동해항 그리고 포항항의 실제 혼성제 케이슨의 활동파괴에 대한 신뢰성 해석도 수행하였다. 마지막으로 목표수준에 따른 혼성제 케이슨의 최소 소요 폭을산정하는 방법으로 본 연구에서 산정된 부분안전계수에 대한 비교 평가를 실시하였다. 비교 결과, 목표수준 1%에서는 약간의 차이를 보이고 있으나 다른 모든 수준에서는 비교적 잘 일치하고 있다.
