A Study on the Design of a Digital Controllor for the Low-cost Automation of a Cable Extruding System (간이 자동화에 의한 전선 압출공정의 디지털 제어기 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This paper proposes the theory for the Low Cost Automation (LCA) as a intermediate process of the factory automation, where the SCA is new adaptation for the improving productivity without changing the current product lines. And also this paper deals with the case study for the predictable effects and technical method at the extruding cable lines. As the results, the implementation of the LCA theory could be acomplished saving materials and man power, improving reliability and productivity. For this facilities, it cost within 5% extra expense of a extruding cable line systems. And it could be refund in six months.

  • Computer Integrated Manufacturing(CIM) is a growing technology as a solution for the total automation of a manufacturing system. However, the implementation in the shop floor is extremely difficult due to many reasons. Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) is usually considered as a solution for the shop floor automation. One of the difficulties in FMS is the communications problem. Since various machinaries with different communications protocols are included, applying a unified scheme is almost impossible. Therefore, a systematic approach is a key point to solve the communication problem. A cell is defined as an automation unit where closely related for a job reside together. A cell is a messenger between upper level computers and lower level machine equipment. In this research, the functions of the cell are defined to have more capabilities than conventional cell since a cell can be often a total manufacturing system in a small to medium sized factory. The cell conducts communications with different machines through the communications schemes established here. A set of software system has been developed according to the defined communications. The software has been tested for a simulation and real experiments for proof.

  • A study on the system automation for the nitrogen splash slag coating in Basic Oxygen Blowing Furnace (BOF) is described. The engineers are trying to do their best efforts to increase the life of converter lining by developing improved refractory material and optimal operation techniques in the steel plants, A new slag coating method is needed to reduce the erosion rates of the refractory. In the current slag costing method, the BOF was swung back and forth. The new method uses the oxygen lance to blow the residual slag to the walls and cone of the converter. The nitrogen gas is used for blowing. This method is developed based on the automation process at factory in POSCO dated on the May 1998. The test results of nitrogen splash slag coating system for the BOF at POSCO are show to show the effectiveness of the system.

  • The importance of the improving quality of electric power is being strongly raised, owing to an increasing use of sensitive and small-sized electronic devices and system. The transient overvoltage on low-voltage AC power distribution system are induced by direct or indirect lightning return strokes, and those can cause damage and/or malfunction of the utility system for borne automation, office automation and factory automation as well as medical equipments. The behavior of lightning surge transferred to the primary side from the primary side in distribution transformers were experimentally investigated the protection effect of low voltage SPD installed at the secondary side of distribution transformers was analyzed.

  • Multi-climbing hydraulic robots are used to lift construction factory (CF) synchronously for applications in the automation of a high-rise building construction. In this study, synchronous motion controller is proposed for the hydraulic robots, whose strategy is not only to make each robot follow the reference path basically by sliding-mode control, but also to synchronize motions of two adjacent cent robots consecutively by cross-coupled control technique. Simulations are performed by using SIMULINK for a system similar to a practical application that includes unbalance in CF and wind disturbance. The results show that the proposed controller significantly reduces synchronous errors, compared to the individual controller for each hydraulic robot.

  • Now, the production process systems are largely based on automatic system using the wired network. The production process systems using wired network has disadvantage that it is expensive when the installed and replaced equipment. The each equipment happens to repair cost for control and management in production processes. And the replaced equipment has also the additional expense and breaks production process. These problems are solved through wireless communication between the industrial equipments. So, we propose wireless production process system based on IEEE 802.15.4 technology. It solves a complicated space and stops by replaced equipment in the factory. Then we simulated and analyzed IEEE 802.15.4 for Industrial Equipment based on Wireless Network.

  • Industrial HMI(Human Machine Interface) system is the main element among the factory automation processes and have been used to monitor and control operation and status of machine in factory with PLC. This HMI often brings heavy loads to the system development and difficult decreasing the system because it tends to use a specific system per each manufacturer. Therefore, in this thesis, we have developed an embedded linux-based embedded industrial HMI software modules which can be used for touch panel embedded system to solve these problem. In this module, we have used the Qt/Embedded software component because it can be used by all systems which support C++ compiler without modifying the existing codes. We can design more flexible system and network configuration because we have used the wireless communication module. In this thesis, we implement linux-based HMI software modules which are capable of wireless communication as well as bringing the mobility to the overall system and finally decreasing the system development loads by using the general purpose OS with competitive price.

A Study on XR Technology for Digital Twin of Smart Factory (스마트 공장의 디지털 트윈을 위한 XR기술에 관한 연구)

  • The introduction of smart factory digital twins is a concept that has already been proposed to increase productivity in the manufacturing industry through CPS(Cyber Physics System), and has been applied to specific industrial process stages or partially introduced in stages where simulation is required. However, with the recent development of the 4th Industrial Revolution technology, it is receiving attention again along with XR (Extended Reality) technology. However, because there are not many effective cases, this study analyzed the devices, equipment, and technology of the manufacturing process to build a digital twin applying digital threads and synchronized signals and information to control, remote control, and produce intelligent process automation equipment. A platform capable of analyzing information was proposed and developed. Through this, we designed and built an XR content service platform that can support artificial intelligence and developed it to enable control, remote control, and analysis of production information. A possible platform was proposed and developed. We hope that this study will be helpful in conducting research on many cases, and in the future, expanded research on increasing productivity in each part of the process and production is needed through intelligent models.

  • Due to the rapid development of information and communication, we live in the smart age of information society. Smart Factory, which integrates Information and communication technology, is being hailed as the technology of the $4^{th}$ industrial revolution. As a result of entering the information society, the factory has made a lot of progress in automation. In this thesis, we used kinetization to research and implement the leisure system of the factory through motion. Kinect provides users with various convenience because they can take advantage of the user's actions and control the system through information. This study is expected to produce a smart factory with video processing, and it is expected to affect the efficiency of the production by providing various conveniences for people working in factories.

  • Manufacturing execution system is a factory information system that handles production-related quality data as well as executes production plans of process unit for all resources in the production process on site. As the 4th industrial revolution, which maximizes an automation and connectivity with artificial intelligence, has become a hot topic, manufacturers are showing interest in building a smart factories, but enormous construction costs and unstandardized production processes are obstacles to smart factory construction. Therefore, this paper designs and implements a manufacturing execution system for building a smart factory in a deterioration factory. we propose a Web-based manufacturing execution system aiming at a smart factory at the basic level for steel wire processing. The proposed system will smoothly support interworking with the existing ERP system using REST APIs, and will consider extensibility so that it can be used in various devices and browsers. We will show practicality by implementing the proposed WoT-based manufacturing execution system.
