Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of self-ligating brackets (SBs) and other factors that influence orthodontic treatment outcomes. Methods: This two-armed cohort study included consecutively treated patients in a private practice. The patients were asked to choose between SBs and conventional brackets (CBs); if any patient did not have a preference, he or she was randomly allocated to the CB or SB group. All patients were treated using an identical archwire sequence. Evaluated parameters were as follows: treatment duration, number of bracket failures, poor oral hygiene, poor elastic wear, extraction, use of orthodontic mini-implants (OMI), OMI failure, American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) Discrepancy Index (DI), arch length discrepancy, and ABO Cast-Radiograph Evaluation (CRE) score. Stepwise regression analysis was performed to generate the equation for prediction of the CRE. Results: The final sample comprised 134 patients with an average age of 22.73 years. The average DI, CRE, and treatment duration were 21.81, 14.25, and 28.63 months, respectively. Analysis of covariance showed a significant difference in CRE between the CB and SB groups after adjusting for the effects of confounding variables. Stepwise regression analysis using four variables, namely extraction, SB use, poor elastic wear, and additional appliance use, could explain only 25.2% of the variance in the CRE. Conclusions: Although the CRE was significantly better for CBs than for SBs, the clinical significance of this result seems to be limited. Extraction, SB use, poor elastic wear, and additional appliance use may have significant effects on treatment outcomes.
As the Hydrogen law was enacted, 4 types of hydrogen appliances were designated as inspection products. The types of hydrogen appliances are water electrolysis equipment, hydrogen extraction equipment, stationary fuel cells, and mobile fuel cells. The establishment fo safety standards for hydrogen appliance inspection defines risk factors for each hydrogen appliance and stipulates safety standards to prevent risk factors. The main safety standards for each hydrogen appliance are hydrogen quality and safety control for water electrolysis, toxic substances emission prevention and carbon monoxide emission prevention for hydrogen extraction facilities, vibration safety for mobile fuel cells.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the potential enhancement of the flavonoid contents from Agastache rugosa, which can be obtained as raw materials for functional products in the food medicine industry by identifying important factors for efficient preparation to save costs and time in terms of economic factors. For this reason, response surface methodology using Box-Behnken design was used to optimize the extraction conditions for the maximum yield of seven major compounds from A. rugosa. The optimum conditions were obtained with an ethanol concentration of 60.0%, a temperature of 50 ℃, and an extraction time of 33.6 min, meaning that the regression analysis fits the experimental data well. Under these conditions, the seven major compounds 1-7 had observed values of 2.169, 2.135, 0.697, 2.485, 0.105, 1.247, and 0.551%, respectively. These results show that the observed values are in good agreement with the predicted values in the regression model. This process for optimization study exhibited a basic protocol for obtaining stable ingredients from A. rugosa that are appropriate for the development of effective functional products.
The factors affecting the back-extraction efficiency of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA, Mw. 65kDa, pl 4.9) solubilized in an AOT reverse micellar solution, prepared by the injection method, to an excess aqueous phase were investigated. In particular, the effects of pH, the types of salts, alcohols added as cosurfactants, and their concentrations in the aqueous phase were examined. Furthermore, by comparing the CD spectra of the back-extracted BSA and the feed BSA, the structural changes of BSA during the extraction process were determined. The addition of 1:1 salt such as KCl or NaCl to the aqueous phase resulted in almost a 100% extraction to the aqueous phase at a pH higher than its isoelectric point pl. This high efficiency of back-extraction might be due to the change in the interactions between the protein and micellar aggregates driven by the added salt. For 1:2 salts like $CaCl_2$ and $MgCl_2$, BSA was back-extracted with lower than 20% extraction efficiency. Maximum extraction efficiencies were attained at about pH=7 and pH=8 for monovalent and divalent salts, respectively. The addition of alcohols as cosurfactants led to an improvement in monovalent and divalent salts, respectively. From the CD spectra of BSA extracted to the aqueous phase, it was observed that denaturation of BSA was not significant. In certain back-extraction conditions, the extracted BSA showed even higher activity than the feed BSA.

In Information Retrieval or Digital Library, one of the most important factors is to find out the exact information which users need. Exact keywords which represent the content of a document can be much help to find the exact information. In this paper, we evaluate an efficient keyword extraction system by recall and precision. The results presented here are based on the human evaluations of the quality and the appropriateness of keywords.
Alumina extraction from raw Hadong kaolin with sulfuric acid was studied to obtain relatively pure alumina. Factors as acid concentration, heating temperature and conditions of ammonium alum crystal formation from extracted solution are also surveyed and most of iron oxide in kaolin is eliminated in crystallization of ammonium alum. Pure crystal obtained from the extracted solution with ammonium sulfate is relatively free from iron containment in mother liquor. Alumina in ammonium alum crystal is converted to gibbsite form after complete hydrolysis in ammonia gas.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the current data regarding age, sex, and Angle Classification of Korean orthodontic patients and influence of these factors on the tendency to undergo extraction and orthognathic surgery. Methods: The recent trends of Korean orthodontic patients were assessed using questionnaire survey. The questionnaires were e-mailed to orthodontists who met the study criteria; 58% of the orthodontists opened the e-mails, and 27.7% replied to the e-mails. In all, the medical records of 11,340 patients who underwent orthodontic treatment at private clinics and small dental hospitals in Korea were analyzed. Results: The percentage of female patients in the study sample was 69.6%, and the average age of the patients was 19.87 years. The percentage of patients who were older than 19 years was 50.2%. Class II and Class III malocclusions were noted in 33.6% and 23.6% of patients, respectively. Extraction and orthognathic surgery were performed in 60.4% and 6.9% of patients, respectively. Conclusions: The results showed that there were a high percentage of adult, Class II malocclusion and extraction patients in private practices and small dental hospitals during the study period. Further, a relatively high proportion of adult patients opted to undergo orthognathic surgery.
A novel sampling method of the headspace poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) mini-disk extraction (HS-PDE) was developed, optimized, validated and applied for the GC/MS analysis of spices flavors. A prototype PDMS mini-disk (8 mm outer diameter, 0.157 mm thickness, 9.4 mg weight) has been designed and fabricated as a sorption device. The technique uses a small PDMS mini-disk and very small volume of organic solvent and less sample size than the solvent extraction. This new HS-PDE method is very simple to use, inexpensive, rapid, requires less labor. Linearities of calibration curves for ${\alpha}$-pinene, ${\beta}$-pinene, limonene and ${\gamma}$-terpinene by HS-PDE combined with GC/MS were excellent having $r^2$ values greater than 0.99 at the dynamic range of 6.06~3500 ng/mL. The limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantitation (LOQ) showed very low values. This method exhibited good precision and accuracy. The overall extraction efficiency of this method was evaluated by using partition coefficients ($K_p$) and concentration factors (CF) for several characteristic components from nutmeg and mace. Partition coefficients were in the range from $2.04{\times}10^4$ to $4.42{\times}10^5$, while CF values were 0.88-15.03. HS-PDE was applied successfully for the analysis of flavors compositions from nutmeg, mace and cumin. The HS-PDE method is a very promising sampling technique for the characterization of volatile flavors.

A new irradiation loop design has been developed, which provides the ability to carry out radiolytic resistance studies of extraction systems simulating process relevant conditions in an easy and simple way. The step-by-step loop configuration permits an easy modification of settings and has a relative low volume requirement. This irradiation loop has been initially set up to test the main EURO-GANEX process steps: the lanthanide (Ln) and actinide (An) co-extraction followed by the transuranic (TRU) stripping. The performance and changes in the composition have been analyzed during the irradiation experiment by different techniques: gamma spectroscopy and ICP-MS for the extraction and corrosion behavior of the full system, and HPLC-MS and Raman spectroscopy to determine the degradation of the organic and aqueous solvents, respectively. The Ln and An co-extraction step and the corrosion that occurred during the first irradiation step revealed the favorable expected results according to literature. The effects of acidity changes occurred during the irradiation process, the presence of stainless corrosion products in solution as well as the new possible degradation compounds have been explored in the An stripping step. The results obtained demonstrate the importance of developing realistic irradiation experiments where different factors affecting the performance can be easily studied and isolated.
Crude papain was extracted from papaya latex under various conditions. Extraction conditions of crude papain were optimized by the response surface methodology (RSM). Extraction yield of papain was affected by concentration of $NaHSO_3$, extraction time and pH. Three independent factors were chosen to determine their effects on the various responses and the function was expressed in terms of a quadratic polynomial equation, which measures the linear, quadratic and interaction effects. According to the results of RSM, the stationary point for quantitatively dependent variable was found to be the maximum point for extraction yield. Optimum conditions of papain extraction were 4% of $NaHSO_3$, 120 min of extraction time and pH 7.6. Under these conditions, 793.16 mg of papain per g latex was extracted from papaya latex.
