Performance of Growing-finishing Pigs Fed Diets Containing Graded Levels of Biotite, an Alumninosilicate Clay

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of an alumninosilicate clay, marketed under the trade name Biotite V, to improve growing-finishing pig performance and to determine its effects on nutrient digestibility and excretion. Sixty crossbred pigs (22.3${\pm}2.7kg$, Camborough 15 Line female${\times}$Canabred sire) were assigned on the basis of sex, weight and litter to one of four dietary treatments in a $2{\times}4$ (two sexes and four treatments) factorial design experiment. The experimental diets were based on barley and soybean meal and contained 0, 0.25, 0.5 or 0.75% biotite during the growing period (22.3-60.5 kg) and 0, 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5% biotite during the finishing period (60.5-110.3 kg). Each pig was allowed access to its own individual feeder for 30 min twice daily (07:00 and 15:00 h). Individual pig body weight, feed consumption and feed conversion were recorded weekly. The pigs were slaughtered at a commercial abattoir when they reached an average weight of 110.3 kg. Carcass weight was recorded and dressing percentage calculated. Carcass fat and lean measurements were obtained with a Destron PG 100 probe between the 3rd and 4th last ribs, 70 mm of the midline. Total tract digestibility coefficients for dry matter, energy, nitrogen and phosphorus were determined using three males and three females per treatment starting at an average weight of $52.2{\pm}3.8kg$. These pigs were housed under identical conditions as those used in the growing stage and were fed the same diets modified only by the addition of 0.5% chromic oxide as a digestibility marker. Over the entire experimental period (22.3-110.3 kg), daily gain was unaffected (p>0.05) by the inclusion of biotite in the diet. There was a cubic response for feed intake (p=0.06) and a quadratic response (p=0.07) for feed conversion due to biotite. Feeding biotite produced no significant (p>0.05) linear or quadratic effects on any of the carcass traits measured. Dry matter digestibility decreased linearly (p=0.02) with increasing levels of biotite in the diet. However, digestibility coefficients for energy, nitrogen and phosphorus were unaffected (p<0.05) by biotite inclusion. Lactobacilli and enterobacteria numbers were unaffected by inclusion of biotite while Salmonella was not detected in any of the fecal samples. The overall results of this experiment indicate that biotite inclusion did not reduce fecal excretion of nitrogen or phosphorus and failed to improve nutrient digestibility. Neither growth rate nor carcass quality was improved while a modest improvement in feed conversion was observed at lower levels of inclusion. Based on the results of this experiment, it would be difficult to justify the routine inclusion of biotite in diets fed to grower-finisher pigs. Whether or not a greater response would have been obtained with pigs of a lower health status is unknown.

A Comparison of Various Energy and Protein Concentrations in Diets on the Performance, Bone Mineral Density and Blood Characteristics of Broiler Chicks

  • 본 실험은 육계의 서로 다른 농도의 에너지와 단백질이 생산성과 혈액성상 및 BMD에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 두 차례 실시하였다. 실험 1에서 총 480수의 Ross ${\times}$ Ross 병아리를 무작위로 6처리구(5반복; 16수/펜)로 나누어 배치하였다. 처리구는 사료 내 ME는 3,000, 3,100, 3,200 kcal/kg 수준으로 하였고 CP는 초기 22, 23%, 전기 20, 21%, 후기 18, 19% 수준으로 하였다. 실험 2에서는 실험 1과 유사하게 병아리와 CP를 적용하였으며, 사료 내 ME 수준을 변형하였다(초기 : 3,000, 3,050, 3,100 kcal/kg, 전기 : 3,050, 3,100, 3,150 kcal/kg, 후기 : 3,100, 3,150, 3,200 kcal/kg). 두 실험에서 처리구당 10수씩 혈액과 경골 샘플을 채취하였고, 혈액성상과 BMD를 분석하였다. 실험 1에서 증체량과 사료섭취량은 3,000 kcal/kg의 에너지를 급여한 처리구에서 증가되었다(P<0.05). 혈청 총 단백질과 albumin 농도는 CP의 수준이 증가함에 따라 수치적으로 증가하였다. 총 콜레스테롤과 HDL의 함유량은 에너지 함유량의 증가에 따라 수치적으로 증가하였다. 실험 2에서 증체량은 일관되게 에너지와 단백질 수준의 증가에 따라 수치적으로 증가하였다(초기 $3,000{\times}23$, 전기 $3,050{\times}21$, 후기 3,100 kcal/kg ME와 19% CP). 혈청 glucose 수준은 에너지 수준이 높아짐에 따라 증가됐다(P<0.05). 따라서 혈청 총 단백질, albumin, triglycerides, 총 콜레스테롤 그리고 HDL 함유량은 사료 에너지 증가에 따라 증가하는 경향이 있다.

고온 스트레스와 소금의 첨가가 산란계의 산-염기 평형과 음수량 및 난질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Heat Stress and Extra Salt Addition on Acid-Base Balance, Water Intake and Egg Quality in Layers)

  • 고온 stress를 받고 있는 산란계의 사료에 소금을 초과 첨가하였을 때 혈액의 산-입기 평형과 음수량 및 난질에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 실험을 실시하였다. 44주령된 갈색 실용 산란계(Dekalb Warren) 18수를 소금 025% 및 0.75% 처리구에 처리당 9반복, 반복당 1수씩 완전임의 배치하였다. 우선 상은(13~$16^{\circ}C$)에서 3일간의 예비실험을 거친 후 3일간의 본 실험을 수행하였다. 그 후 실온을 고온(33~$35^{\circ}C$)으로 올린 후 3일간의 본 실험 기간을 둠으로써 $2\times2$ 요인실험이 되게 하였다. ANOVA 검정은 5% 수준에서 실시하였으며 처리평균간의 유의성 검정도 역시 5% 수준에서 실시하였다. 얻어진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 고온 stress에 의하여 사료 섭취량은 유의적으로 감소하였고 음수량과 배설물의 수분 함량은 증가하였으며, 소금의 추가 급여는 사료 섭취량과 음수량에는 영향을 주지 못하였으나 배설물의 수분 함량을 유의적으로 증가시켰다. 2. 고온 stress에 의하여 pH늘 유의적으로 증가하였고 $pCO_2$는 유의적으로 감소하였으며 ${HCO_3}^-$는 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 또한 혈액의 산-염기변수는 소금의 추가 급여에 의하여 영향을 받지 않았다. 3. 고온 stress에 의하여 난중 및 난각의 질은 유의하게 감소하였고 Haugh unit는 유의하게 증가하였으며, 소금의 추가 급여는 난중, 난각 및 Haugh unit에 영향을 주지 못하였다. 결론적으로, 본 실험에서는 산란계에서 고온 stress 처리를 하였을 때 예상되는 호흡성 alkalosis와 난질 저하 현상 등을 관찰하였으며, 소금의 추가 급여는 고온 stress를 완화시키지 못하는 것으로 나타났다.

環境條件이 仔豚의 成長과 行動에 미치는 影響 (Effects of Environmental Factors on Growth Performances and Behavioural Patterns of Weanling Pigs)

  • 두당 돈방면적과 돈군의 크기 등 돼지의 사육환경 조건이 자돈의 성장과 행동에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 이유후부터 체중 30kg까지의 자돈을 총 18돈방에 300두를 공시하여 시험하였다. 사료급여는 습식급여로 하였으며 두당 돈방 면적은 0.18$m^2$, 0.23$m^2$ 및 0.30$m^2$로 하였고 돈군의 크기는 돈방당 15두, 20두 및 25두로 하였다. 일당증체량, 일당사료섭취량 및 사료요구율을 조사하였으며 자돈의 행동을 휴식, 섭취, 공격, 사회성 및 유희행동으로 나누어 조사분석하였으며 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 두당 돈방면적이 0.18$m^2$의 경우 사료섭취량은 많았으나(p<0.01) 증체량은 차이가 없고, 사료효율은 낮으므로(p<0.05) 두당 0.23$m^2$의 경우가 최적인 것으로 나타났다. 2. 돈군의 크기에 따른 자돈의 증체나 사료효율에는 차이가 없었으며 사료섭취량은 15두군이 가장 많았다(p<0.01). 3. 자돈의 두당 돈방면적은 행동에 크게 영향을 미치며 두당 돈방면적이 좁을수록 공격행동이 증가되었고, 휴식, 사회성 및 유희행동은 감소되었다(p<0.01). 4. 돈군의 크기는 자돈의 행동에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았으나, 유희행동은 돈군이 커질수록 감소되었다(p<0.01). 5. 자돈의 성장과 행동면에서 두당 0.23$m^2$의 돈방면적을 부여하고 20~25두 크기로 돈군을 유지하는 것이 최적인 것으로 나타났다.

그림 자료의 제시여부와 읽기모드에 따른 인지부하와 GSR의 차이 (Impact of Picture and Reading Mode on Cognitive Load and Galvanic Skin Response)

  • 이 연구는 그림 자료의 근접성(고근접 vs. 저근접)에 따른 제시여부와 읽기모드(단순읽기 vs. 요약읽기)에 따른 학습자의 인지부하 차이를 검증하기 위한 것이다. 특히, 이 연구에서는 전기피부반응을 통하여 인지부하의 정도를 측정하였다. 실험참가자는 34명(통제집단=17명, 실험집단=17명)이었으며 고근접 조건과 저근접 조건에 대한 반복구획요인설계를 적용하였다. 또한 각 실험조건에서 측정된 과제난이도 지각점수를 공변량으로 투입하여 학습자의 사전지식에 의한 영향력을 통제하였다. 그림 자료의 근접성의 정도에 따라서 고근접 그림 자료와 저근접 그림 자료가 순차적으로 제시되었다. 처음에는 단순읽기 모드가 제시되었고 이후에 요약읽기를 수행하였다. 전기피부반응은 단순읽기와 요약읽기에서 모두 측정되었다. 이 연구의 종속변수는 전기피부반응과 지각된 난이도였다. 연구결과에 따르면 고근접 자료가 제시된 조건에서는 유의미한 차이를 발견할 수 없었다. 그러나 저근접 조건에서는 그림 자료의 제시여부 및 읽기모드 사이에서 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 즉, 저근접 조건에서는 텍스트만 제시하는 것보다는 그림 자료가 제시될 때 전기피부반응이 올라갔다. 또한 단순 읽기 보다 요약읽기에서 더 높은 전기피부반응이 측정되었다. 이 연구의 결과는 저근접 그림은 인지부하를 유발하는 요인이 될 수 있으며 읽기모드가 복잡해지면 인지부하가 높아질 수 있음을 보여주는 것이다. 동일한 자료를 활용한다고 하더라도 인지과정의 복잡성 정도에 따라서 인지부하가 달라질 수 있다는 것이다. 그러나 학습성취과 같은 과제수행 요인과 더 높은 난이도에서의 인지부하 측정에 대한 후속연구가 필요하다.

Effect of Work and Urea-Molasses Cake Supplementation on Live Weight and Milk Yield of Murrah Buffalo Cows

  • Two experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of Murrah buffalo cows pulling sledges under field conditions on milk production and milk composition. In Exp. 1, 24 buffaloes in the fourth month of lactation were used. They were allotted to four treatments according to a $2{\times}2$ factorial arrangement: work or no work, and with or without urea-molasses cake supplementation (700 g/animal/day). Feeds consisted of 20 kg fresh elephant grass (18% DM), 2 kg rice bran per day and rice straw ad lib. The animals worked in pairs three hours per day (work done: $3464{\pm}786kJ/d$) five days a week for three months. Three teams worked in the morning and the others worked in the afternoon in the same day. The following day the working times were switched. In Exp. 2, 16 lactating Murrah buffalo cows in the sixth month of lactation were allotted to two groups (work and no work). They were fed with fresh ruzi grass (Brachiaria ruziziensis) ad lib. supplemented with 2 kg rice bran and 700 g urea-molasses cake. The working regime was similar to that of the first experiment (work done: $3753{\pm}879kJ/d$) and they worked for two months. In the first experiment, there was a small but significant drop (p<0.05) in milk yield from 3.5 to 3.0 kg/day due to work, but there was no supplementation effect. The working buffaloes lost 5.2 kg whereas the non-working animals gained 9.7 kg during the three months (p<0.05). Supplementation increased live weight by 9.9 kg as compared to -5.4 kg for those not supplemented (p<0.05). Milk composition was not affected by the treatments. In the second experiment, daily milk production was similar for both treatments and approximately 3 kg. No significant differences were found in milk composition or in live weight changes for working and non-working groups, respectively. It was concluded that work may cause a reduction in milk yield and a loss of live weight on a poor rice straw diet but that an appropriate supplementation can alleviate this situation.

Effects of Dietary Selenium Supplementation on Growth Performance, Selenium Retention in Tissues and Nutrient Digestibility in Growing-finishing Pigs

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of selenium (Se) sources and levels on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and Se retention in growing-finishing pigs. A total of 56 crossbred pigs ([$Landrace{\times}Yorkshire$]${\times}$Large White) with average $28.5{\pm}0.2kg$ BW were allotted to 7 treatments on the basis of sex and weight in two replicates and four pigs per pen. A $2{\times}3$ factorial arrangement of treatments was used in a randomized complete block (RCB) design. Two sources of Se (selenite Se or Se-enriched yeast) were added at 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 mg/kg to each treatment diet. A basal diet without Se supplementation was the seventh treatment group. Three pigs per treatment were randomly selected and samples of loin, liver, pancreas and a kidney were collected, frozen and later analyzed for Se. The digestibility trial was conducted to evaluate the apparent absorption and retention of Se and availability of other nutrients. Growth performance was not affected by dietary sources and levels of Se. No growth retardation was observed in the 0.5 mg/kg dietary Se treatment group regardless of Se sources. The Se concentration of serum in Se supplemented groups was increased compared with the control group (p<0.01). During the growing and finishing phase, Se in serum was clearly increased when organic Se was provided (p<0.01). Interaction of Se source ${\times}$ Se level was observed in Se concentration of loin, liver and pancreas of the pigs at the end of experiment. Selenium retention in the liver, kidney, pancreas and loin of pigs was increased as dietary Se level increased and was higher when pigs were fed organic Se resulting in an interaction response (p<0.01). Nutrient digestibilities were not affected by dietary Se sources or levels. No dietary Se source ${\times}$ Se level interaction was observed in nutrient digestibility. The results from this experiment indicated that dietary Se sources and levels affected the distribution of Se in the body of growing-finishing pigs. Organic source of Se, such as Se-enriched yeast resulted in higher serum and tissue Se concentration compared to inorganic form, while no beneficial effects on nutrient digestibility were observed from dietary Se supplementation in growing-finishing pigs.

Effects of Different Products and Levels of Selenium on Growth, Nutrient Digestibility and Selenium Retention of Growing-finishing Pigs

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of different selenium (Se) products (inorganic, organic A, organic B) added at two supplemental dietary Se levels (0.1 and 0.3 mg/kg) on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and Se retention in growing-finishing pigs. A $3{\times}2$ factorial arrangement of treatments was used in a RCB design, with a non-Se-fortified basal diet serving as the negative control. A total of 56 crossbred pigs (28 male and 28 female pigs) initially weighing an average $28.45{\pm}0.53kg$ BW were allotted to each treatment with four pigs per pen on the basis of sex and weight. Two pigs per pen were selected and bled from the anterior vena cava at 3- weekly intervals to analyze Se concentration. In the growing phase (0-6 weeks), increased ADFI was observed when pigs were fed organic Se compared to those fed the control diet or inorganic Se treatment (p<0.05). Pigs fed inorganic Se had a great ADFI than pigs fed organic Se (p<0.05) in the late finishing phase (7-12 weeks), although there were no differences in whole period ADFI between organic or inorganic Se products. During 12 weeks of the whole experimental period, serum Se concentration increased linearly when dietary Se level increased regardless of Se products (p<0.05). Both dietary Se source (p<0.05) and Se level (p<0.01) influenced the Se concentration of various pig tissues at end of this experiment and Se content was the highest in the kidney. For the determination of nutrient digestibility, a metabolic trial was conducted in 3 replicates in randomized complete block (RCB) design. A total of 21 barrows ($50.21{\pm}0.62kg$ of average BW) were used in the metabolic study. Selenium supplementation had no effect on nutrient digestibility except for crude protein. Crude protein digestibility increased with dietary supplementation of organic Se (A) compared with other forms of Se products or control diet (p<0.05). Consequently, this experiment indicated that dietary Se products and levels had no effect on growth performance of pigs. Se concentration in tissues and serum was increased in proportion to dietary Se level, especially when organic Se was provided. Although pigs were fed organic forms of Se, bioavailability of organic forms varied among products, consequently bioactivity of organic products to the animals should be evaluated before practical application in animal feed.

폐암세포주 (PC-14)에서 복합항암제 처치시 암세포살해능의 증강에 관한 연구 (Enhancement of Cytotoxicity by the Combination of Anticancer Drugs in Human Lung Adenocarcinoma Cell Line (PC-14))

  • 연구배경 : 수술적 절제가 불가능한 폐암환자에서 복합화학요법의 역할이 최근 증대되고 있으나 아직 가장 이상적인 복합화학요법은 확립되지 않고 있다. 두 종류 이상의 항암제를 복합투여시 약제간의 상호작용에 의해 항암효과의 상승 혹은 억제를 보일 수 있으나 이를 예측하기가 어려웠다. 본 연구에서는 MTT 검사를 이용하여 두 약제를 여러 농도에서 복합투여후 살해능의 변화를 관찰하였다. 방 법 : 사람의 폐선암세포인 PC-14를 이용하여 cisplatin, mitomycin C, adriamycin 및 etoposide를 여러 농도에서 단독 또는 두 약제를 복합투여하여 항암효과의 변화를 MTT 검사로 측정하고 두 약제 복합투여시의 상호 작용의 결과를 이원배치법을 이용한 Anova분석을 이용하여 측정하였다. 결 과 : 위의 네종류의 약제는 단독투여시 농도에 비례하는 암세포살해능을 보였고 두 약제를 복합투여시 모든 조합에서 암세포살해능의 상승효과를 보였으며 특히 mitomycin C 와 cisplatin 및 adriamycin과 cisplatin을 복합투여시 상승효과가 강하게 나타났다. 결 론 : 위의 결과로 비소세포폐암의 복합화학요법시 mitomycin C와 cisplatin 혹은 adriamycin과 cisplatin을 같이 사용할 경우 항암효과의 극대화를 얻을 수 있으리라 기대된다. 나아가 이번 연구의 디자인은 복합항암화학요법을 필요로 하는 모든 종류의 암에 적용되어 최대항암효과를 얻을 수 있는 약제선정에 도움의 될 수 있으리라 생각된다.

Effects of dietary energy and lipase levels on nutrient digestibility, digestive physiology and noxious gas emission in weaning pigs

  • Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary energy and lipase supplementation on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, serum profiles, intestinal morphology, small intestinal digestive enzyme activities, biochemical index of intestinal development and noxious gas emission in weaning pigs. Methods: A total of 240 weaning pigs ([Yorkshire${\times}$Landrace]${\times}$Duroc) with an average body weight (BW) of $7.3{\pm}0.12kg$ were used in this 28-d experiment. Weaning pigs were randomly allocated to 4 dietary treatments in a $2{\times}2$ factorial arrangement with 2 levels of energy (net energy = 2,470 kcal/kg for low energy diet and 2,545 kcal/kg for basal diet) and 2 levels of lipase (0 and 1.5 U/g of lipase) according to BW and sex. There were 6 replications (pens) per treatment and 10 pigs per pen (5 barrows and 5 gilts). Results: Weaning pigs fed the low energy diet had lower (p<0.05) gain-to-feed ratio (G:F) throughout the experiment, apparent digestibility of dry matter, nitrogen, ether extract, and gross energy during d 0 to 14, average daily gain during d 15 to 28, lipase activity in duodenum and ileum and protein/DNA in jejunum (p<0.05), respectively. Lipase supplementation had no effect on growth performance but affected apparent nutrient digestibility (p<0.05) on d 14 and enhanced lipase activity in the duodenum and ileum and protease activity in duodenum and jejunum of pigs (p<0.05) fed the low energy diet. Lipase reduced serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglyceride (TG), $NH_3$ production (p<0.05) from the feces. Conclusion: The low energy diet decreased G:F throughout the experiment and nutrient digestibility during d 0 to 14 as well as lipase activity in duodenum and ileum. Lipase supplementation increased nutrient digestibility during d 0 to 14 and exerted beneficial effects on lipase activity in duodenum and ileum as well as protease activity in duodenum and jejunum, while reduced serum LDL-C, TG and fecal $NH_3$.
