This study investigated the effect of different dietary fats and fibers on colon tumor incidence and cell proliferation, the levels of eicosanoids and polyamines in colonic mucosa of DMH-treated rats. The experiment was conducted on male Sprague Dawley rats using a 2 $\times$3 factorial design with two fats (corn oil and DHA-rich fish oil) and two fibers (cellulose and pectin) and a fiber-free control. The rats were find an experimental diet containing 15% (w/w) dietary fat and 6% (w/w) fiber for 25 weeks. Tumor incidence was Bower in rats fed fish oil as opposed to corn oil. The levels of arachidonic acid (AA) and eicosanoids ($PGE_2, and TXB_2$) in normal colonic mucosa were significantly lower in rats fed fish oil and there was a concomitant increase of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The levels of eicosanoids and AA in tumor tissues were significantly higher than those of normal colonic mucosa. The level of polyamines in normal colonic mucosa was not affected by dietary fats but was significantly lower than that in rumor tissues. Dietary fiber did not have a significant effect on rumor incidence and the levels of AA, eicosanoids and polyamines. Overall, fish oil rich in DHA reduced cell prolifiration and thus inhibited colon carcinogenesis through its effect on the distribution of AA and production of eicosanoids in normal colonic mucosa. However, its effect on colon carcinogenesis revealed a lack of consistency depending on the type of dietary fiber in diet.

To determine the interrelationship between thyroid status and the reparitioning action of clenbuterol (CLE) in broilers, two-week-old female chickens were fed diets containing an antithyroid substance, propylthiouracil (PTU, 0 or 0.3%), CLE (0 to 1 mg/kg), or both for 18 days in a $2{\times}2$ factorial design experiment. Muscle weights (breast muscle, gastrocnemius and peroneus longus) increased only in the normal chickens fed CLE. As absolute mass, protein of leg muscle quantitatively increased in the CLE-fed normal birds. In contrast, inhibition of the CLE-induced protein accretion, especially of peroneus longus, occurred in the PTU group. A quantitative increase in DNA was observed in leg muscles of the normal chickens, but no DNA response to CLE was shown in the PTU-treated chickens. The decreased RNA in leg muscles of the PTU group was more reduced by CLE feeding. Although not statistically significant, the reduced degradation rate of whole muscle protein in normal chickens fed CLE was not confirmed in the PTU-fed group. The present study, therefore, concluded that metabolic action of thyroid hormones was a prerequisite for the hypertrophic effect of ${\beta}$-agonist in broilers.

This research examines the personal (i.e., Machiavellianism) and situational factors (i.e., tax climate) that are believed to be psychologically salient aspects in tax compliance. To the best of our knowledge, no research has been carried out to investigate the interaction effect of the two factors. This study uses a paper-and-pencil laboratory experiment 2x2 between-subject factorial design that involved 158 participants. The results indicate that a taxpayer who has a low Machiavellianism score or who is in a high synergistic tax climate reports a higher level of income. In the high synergistic tax climate, where tax norms apply, personal ethics do not play a significant role in tax compliance decisions. Where the synergistic relationship between taxpayer and authorities is low, personal ethics play an important role, i.e., low Machiavellians report a higher reported income than high Machiavellians do. This research contributes to the literature that deviates from the traditional model of tax compliance. Taxpayers are not always rational, but they might pay tax for reasons other than financial motives (Alm, 1991, 2018), that is, personal ethics in this study. This research implies the need for policymakers to consider other approaches rather than only relying on audits and fines.
The objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of Lactobacillus, cellulase, and molasses on chemical composition, fermentation qualities, and microorganism count of sugarcane bagasse silage after 30-days fermentation. The treatments were arranged according to a factorial arrangement (2 × 2 × 2) + 1, in a complete randomized design. The first factor consisted of two levels of Lactobacillus casei TH14 (TH14, 0 and 0.05 g/kg fresh matter; the second factor consisted of two levels of cellulase enzyme (C, 0 and 104 U/kg fresh matter); and the third factor consisted of two levels of molasses (M, 0 and 5 g/ 100 mL distilled water). A treatment (+1) referred to the use of rice straw without any treatments. The result showed that dry matter increased by 4% and neutral detergent fiber decreased by 2% of sugarcane bagasse when ensiled as a combination of additives as compared to untreated sugarcane bagasse. The pH and ammonia nitrogen were significantly dropped to 3.5 and 2.3 g/kg dry matter. Furthermore, lactic acid was increased by 64% when compared to untreated sugarcane bagasse, respectively. Lactic acid bacteria count was increased by 28% as compared to untreated sugarcane bagasse. Based on this experiment, fermenting with L. casei TH14, cellulase, and molasses in combination resulted in the promotion of the best qualities of sugarcane bagasse silage.
Evolutionary operation (EVOP) proposed by Box (1957) is a method for continuous monitoring and improvement of a full-scale manufacturing process with the objective of moving the operating conditions toward the better ones. EVOP consists of systematically making small changes in the levels of the two or three process variables under consideration. Data are collected on the response variable at each point of two level factorial design with the center point and a cycle is said to have been completed. The cycles are replicated sequentially until the decision is made on whether further cycle of experiments is needed to conclude the significance of any of main effects or interaction effects or the curvature. In this paper, an improved flow chart of EVOP is proposed and how to determine the number of cycles is studied based on the size of type II error. In order to reject the alternative hypothesis of interests with more confidence and conclude that we believe in the null hypothesis of no effects, we propose a counter measure $p^*-value$ corresponding to the p-value. The relationship of $p^*-value$ to the probability of type II error ${\beta}$ under the alternative hypothesis of interests is analogous to that of p-value to the probability of type I error ${\alpha}$. Also the implementation of EVOP with a mixture experiment is discussed.
A new technique is presented to construct predictive models of plasma etch processes. This was accomplished by combining a backpropagation neural network (BPNN) and a random generator (RC). The RG played a critical role to control neuron gradients in the hidden layer, The predictive model constructed in this way is referred to as a randomized BPNN (RG-BPNN). The proposed scheme was evaluated with a set of experimental plasma etch process data. The etch process was characterized by a 2$^3$ full factorial experiment. The etch responses modeled are 4, including aluminum (Al) etch rate, profile angle, Al selectivity, and do bias. Additional test data were prepared to evaluate model appropriateness. The performance of RC-BPNN was evaluated as a function of the number of hidden neurons and the range of gradient. for given range and hidden neurons, 100 sets of random neuron gradients were generated and among them one best set was selected for evaluation. Compared to the conventional BPNN, the proposed RC-BPNN demonstrated about 50% improvements in all comparisons. This illustrates that the RG-BPNN of multi-valued gradients is an effective way to considerably improve the predictive ability of current BPNN of single-valued gradient.
The use of smartphones has grown rapidly over a short period of time, particularly for commuting news search, smart banking, and social networking services, and has had a significant impact on the pattern of contemporary life. Further, a wide range of applications are downloaded on to smartphones. This has also led a considerable number of complaints regarding these applications. In this study, we focus on the levels of dissatisfaction that users experience with smartphone applications and their effects on consumer complaint behavior along with the moderating effects of the complaint handling process and attribution. The aim of this study is to verify whether the following hypothesis--2 (low/high dissatisfaction level of smartphone applications)${\times}2$ (poor/excellent complaint handling process)${\times}2$ (internal/external consumer attribution)--is in accordance with the betweengroup design to build a factorial design experiment. The results of this study are as follows. First, the consumer's tendency to complain significantly influenced their dissatisfaction level. Second, consumer complaint behavior is modulated by the complaint handling process. Third, the external-attribution tendency of consumers was found to lead to more dissatisfaction than the tendency for internal attribution.
Three hundred chicks were randomly assigned among four treatments to evaluate the effect of an organic selenium supplement at various levels of dietary protein. Two levels of supplemental selenium (0 and 0.3 mg/kg) from zinc-L-selenomethionine were tested at two levels of dietary protein (normal and reduced) in a completely randomized design with $2{\times}2$ factorial layout. The experiment lasted up to 49 d of age during which all birds were exposed to $31{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The effects of selenium or its interaction with CP on growth performance and carcass characteristics were not significant. However, feeding the reduced-CP diet decreased weight gain in the starting period and increased liver and abdominal fat weights relative to body weight. Ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) was not significantly affected by dietary CP and Se or their interaction though FRAP values were numerically higher in the Se-supplemented group. Dietary CP content did not affect the activity of plasma glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx), though Se significantly elevated plasma GSHPx activity. The interaction of CP and Se was not significant for FRAP and plasma GSHPx activity.
This study was intended to identify the persuasion effects according to social proof message type and product type in the context of online cosmetic advertising. For the experiment, 4 stimuli were developed as experimental stimuli for the 2(social proof message type: attitudinal social proof message, behavioral social proof message)${\times}$2(product type: hedonic product, utilitarian product) factorial design. A total of 160 questionnaires allocating forty students to each group were distributed. The results were as follows. First, behavioral social proof message showed more effective than attitudinal social proof message in advertisement attention, click-through intention and purchase intention. Second, utilitarian product showed more effective than hedonic product in advertisement attention, click-through intention and purchase intention. Third, there was interaction effect according to social proof message type and product type on the aspect of click-through intention.
The purposes of this research were to investigate the influences of shopping value, brand awareness, and the types of sales promotion on the purchase of bundled cosmetics. In experiment, 1) shopping value 2) brand awareness 3) types of sales promotion were manipulated as independent variables, and consumer preference and purchasing intention of bundle of cosmetics were measured as dependent variables. This research was an experimental design which was $2{\times}2{\times}2$ mixed factorial design. For the data analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, three-way ANOVA were used by utilizing SAS program. The main results of the study were summarized as follows: First, the results indicated that the consumer of hedonic shopping value have a positive effect on preferring price-cut sales, especially if brand awareness is high. Second, the consumer of utilitarian shopping value preferred price-cut sales to special offer, irrespective of brand awareness. This result indicates that consumers who gets more involved in and enjoys shopping are likely to have more brand awareness than others. This. seems to be the important characteristics of shopping. Consumer who have utilitarian shopping value concerned in price. The result showed the 3-way interaction effects on the consumer preference of bundle of cosmetics.
