A Study on the Selection of Pricing Factors for Used Bulk Carriers (중고 벌크선의 가격결정요인 선정에 관한 연구)

  • In the existing ship sales market, prices determined based on the prices of similar ship types that recently traded. ince the 2008 financial crisis, ship prices have fluctuated, and ship price criteria have become ever more necessary to the imminent value of the ship. Therefore, this research used the hedonic price model to estimate imminent values of ships. In this study, the influence on ship prices was analyzed by the value of each characteristic and an estimated functional formula was. Out of the four models suggested by the hedonic price model, an optimal model was selected with variance inflation factors and a stepwise selection. For this, the influence of determinants of ship prices was analyzed based on actually traded ships and characteristic data. The selected model s the Log-Line model; as a result of regression analysis, eight variables, including DWT, Age, Market Value, Short-Term Charter, Long-Term Charter, Enbloc, Special Survey Due and Builder were to affect the ship price model. This model is expected to be useful for objective and balanced ship price evaluation.

A Study on Properties of Crude Oil Based Derivative Linked Security (유가 연계 파생결합증권의 특성에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose - This paper aims to investigate the properties of crude oil based derivative security (DLS) focusing on step-down type for comprehensive understanding of its risk. Design/methodology/approach - Kernel estimation is conducted to figure out statistical feature of the process of oil price. We simulate oil price paths based on kernel estimation results and derive probabilities of hitting the barrier and early redemption. Findings - The amount of issuance for crude oil based DLS is relatively low when base prices are below $40 while it is high when base prices are around $60 or $100, which is not consistent with kernel estimation results showing that oil futures prices tend to revert toward $46.14 and the mean-reverting speed is faster as oil price is lower. The analysis based on simulated oil price paths reveals that probability of early redemption is below 50% for DLS with high base prices and the ratio of the probability of early redemption to the probability of hitting barrier is remarkably low compared to the case for DLS with low base prices, as the chance of early redemption is deferred. Research implications or Originality - Empirical results imply that the level of the base price is a crucial factor of the risk for DLS, thus introducing a time-varying knock-in barrier, which is similar to adjust the base price, merits consideration to enhance protection for DLS investors.

Factor Prices and Markup in the Korean Manufacturing Industry: An Empirical Analysis 1975-2007 (한국의 생산요소가격 변화가 마크업의 변동에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증분석: 1975-2007)

  • The Korean economy have experienced the remarkable decreases in factor prices such as bond yields, real wage since the IMF foreign exchange crisis. This paper investigates the effects of the price changes in the factor markets on determining the level and cyclicality of industrial markups in the manufacturing industry. For this purpose, we construct a markup equation in the small open economy based on the production function including foreign intermediate goods and assuming constant returns to scale technology and AR(1) process of technological coefficient. Empirical results are summarized as the followings. The empirical results shows that the increased markups after the IMF crisis can be explained by the price decreases in the factor markets which result in lowering marginal costs. And we also observed counter cyclicality of markup, labor share and interest rates while real wages, technical coefficients, and production price index proved to be pro-cyclical. In conclusion, the price changes in factor market have contributed to the stickiness in markup fluctuation in the manufacturing industry.

  • The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the necessity of conserving and maintaining eco-parks by estimating their economic value. Wonheung-ee Park in Sannam 3 District of Cheongju City was chosen as the subject and a quantitative estimation was conducted. The quantitative analysis utilized the hedonic price model that estimates the value of non-market goods. The summarized results of this study are follows. The subject park influenced the prices of its neighboring apartments. The most important factor was the distance between the park and the subject apartment. When the distance was longer than 400m, the impact was greatest. The quantitative assessment also showed that apartment prices and the distance between an apartment and the park had a negative relationship. When the distance increased by 1%, apartment prices decreased by 0.430%. This means that within a certain distance, the closer an apartment is to the park, the higher is the price. Demonstrating the economic value of eco-parks, this study also supports the importance of preserving eco-areas. It generally shows that when we develop a city, we should refrain destroying the ecosystem.

  • This paper presents a new methodology to draw the components of locational marginal price (LMP) in electricity market. Recently, the changing environments surrounding electricity industries resulted in the unbundled services provided by electricity market players, which may require the new pricing mechanisms based on the LMP. The changed pricing mechanisms will provide the price signals of time and location to the market participants. Most of the existing studies of LMP are based on the Lagrangian multipliers as shadow prices to evaluate the equivalent values of constraints or factors for security, reliability and quality. However, the shadow prices cannot provide enough information for components of LMP. In this paper, therefore, we proposed a new approach that LMP is divided into three components. To do this, we first present the method for shadow prices calculation and then break down LMP into a variety of parts corresponding to the concerned factors. The proposed approach is applied to 5-bus and modified IEEE 14-bus sample system in order to verify its validity.

  • The purpose of this study is to set a standard for sale prices of supplying apartment houses about decision factors in sale price of supplying apartment houses using Analytic Hierarchy Process. This is done by modeling decision factors in sale price of supplying apartment houses as hierarchy. According to the modeled hierarchy, the relative importance of supplying factors are determined using a survey of a group of real estate experts. In addition, through Analytic Hierarchy Process, the relative importance of phased sale prices of supplying apartment is analyzed in order to set a standard to estimate competitive sale prices of newly supplying apartment houses.

  • The sale price of apartment buildings is a key factor in the success or failure of apartment projects, and the factors that affect the sale price of apartments vary widely, including location, environmental factors, and economic conditions. Existing methods of predicting the sale price do not reflect the nonlinear characteristics of apartment prices, which are determined by the complex impact factors of reality, because statistical analysis is conducted under the assumption of a linear model. To improve these problems, a new analysis technique is needed to predict apartment sales prices by complex nonlinear influencing factors. Using machine learning techniques that have recently attracted attention in the field of engineering, it is possible to predict the sale price reflecting the complexity of various factors. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a basic study for the development of a machine learning-based prediction model for apartment sale prices.

Assessing Bank Competition in Nepal Using Panzar-Rosse Model

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the state of competition in Nepalese banking over the period from 2010 to 2019. This study employs panel data and a non-structural Panzar-Rosse model to measure the degree of competition in the Nepalese banking industry. The first reduced-form equation is applied to gauge competition, and the second model is used to test the long-run equilibrium in the banking market. The finding reveals that the Nepalese banking market is equilibrium in the long-run. It implies that the factor prices do not affect ROA in the long-run. The result of the H-statistic shows that the Nepalese banking system is operating under the state of perfect competition and is shifted from monopolistic competition to perfect competition. The reduced-form model reveals that the interest income is positive and significantly affected by factor prices. Similarly, the macroeconomic variable GDP growth is positively related to interest income. On the contrary, the bank's specific factors risk and the number of bank branches are inversely associated with the regressand. The outcomes of the study may be advantageous to the policymakers, especially to Nepal Rastra Bank to implement monetary policy and M&A policy for the stability and growth of the financial system of Nepal.

  • This study focuses on testing the validity of dimensions of restaurants' menu prices. In addition, the effect of demographic variables on the perception of each price dimension was investigated. The subjects were people living in the capital region who have, at least on occasion, gone to family restaurants. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaires and analyzed by factor analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and the ANOVA t-test. The results were that consumers' perception of restaurant menu prices is not uni-dimensional, but has six dimensions: price-price schema, pricequality schema, value consciousness, low price proneness, price mavenism, sales proneness. Demographic variables partially affect the consumers' perception of each menu price dimension. The result of the t-test examining dimensions of price according to the demographic characteristic was that females have a higher sales proneness than males. The t-test result according to marriage indicated that married people were higher in price-price schema and quality proneness than unmarrieds. ANOVA according to age indicated that people between ages of 20 to 29 have a higher quality proneness than those of other ages.

  • This paper presents new approaches for the calculation for the calculation of each user's wheeling prices based on the economic analysis method with focus on the postage stamp rule. The suggested postage stamp rules can overcome the following problems embedded in the conventional accounting-costs-based methods such as the volatileness of wheeling prices depending deprieciation methods, emerging the wheeling free-riders due to the difference between accounting life-time and technical life-time, price discrimination between firm and non-firm network users, etc. To solve these problems we suggest new postage stamp rules employing capital recovery factor for investment costs treatment and applying technical life-time. Furthermore, we have suggested a new formulation for non-firm wheeling users based on the wheeling energies. In the case study, the results of suggested postage stamp methodologies are compared with those of conventional approaches.
