A Study on the Construction of a Document Input/Output system (문서 입출력 시스템의 구성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, an integrated document input/output system is developed which constructs the graphic document from a text file, converts the document into encoded facsimile data, and also recognizes printed/handwritten alphanumerics and Korean characters in a facsimile or graphic document. For an output system, we develop the method which generates bit-map patterns from the document consisting of the KSC5601 and ASCII codes. The binary graphic image, if necessary, is encoded by the G3 coding scheme for facsimile transmission. For a user friendly input system for documents consisting of alphanumerics and Korean characters obtained from a facsimile or scanner, we propose a document recognition algirithm utilizing several special features(partial projection, cross point, and distance features) and the membership function of the fuzzy set theory. In summary, we develop an integrated document input/output system and its performance is demonstrated via computer simulation.

  • We developed the facsimile encryption system that could send/receive the cipher text and plain text automatically. This facsimile encryption system is adopting the 128bits SEED encryption algorithm, 1024bits modular and 256bits exponential Diffie-Hellman key exchange method. We can reduce the cipher text transmitting time by developing the Dual Facsimile Server, it can make the real time encryption communication. Key is safely exchanged by the exchanging the listed serial numbers when the Diffie-Hellman key exchanging.

A Study on the EMI Denoising Using the Ferrite Core for Facsimile (페라이트 코어를 이용한 팩시밀리에서의 EMI 제거에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we design a ring inductor using the ferrite core to denoise the EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) for facsimile. The EMI for facsimile is radiated from the signal line of PSTN(Public Switching Telephone Network) between facsimile and PSTN. We denoise the radiated noise by inserting a ferrite core(Ni-Zn) between facsimile and PSTN. Even though we may denoise the radiated noise using two or more than two ferrite cores, we only concentrate on denoising EMI by adjusting number of turns of one ferrite core since it gives economical gain. As a result of measuring EMI using the designed inductor with 4 turns inserted in the line connected between facsimile and PSTN, the value of radiated emission is reduced below 30 dB$\mu$V/m.

Encoding of a run-length soruce using recursive indexing (줄길이 신호원의 순환지수 부호화)

  • This paper deals with the design of a recursively-indexed binary code for facsimile soruces and its performance. Sources used here are run-lengths of white pixels form higher-resolution facsimile. The modified huffman code used for G.3 facsimile is chosen for the performance comparison. Experiments confirm the fact that recursive indexing preserves the entropy of a memoryless geometric source: the entropy of recursively-indexed physical surce iwth roughly geometric distributin remains within 2% of the empirical source entropy. The designed recursively-indexed binary codes consist of a code applied to text-type documents and to graphics - type documents is compared iwth that of the modified huffman code. Numerical resutls show that the modified huffman code performs well for text-type documents and not equally well for graphics-tyep documents. On the other hand, recursively-indexed binary codes have shown a better performance for graphics-type documents whose distribution are similar to a geometric distribution. Specifically, the code rates of recursively-indexed binary codes with 60 codewords are from 8% to 20% of the empirical source entropy smaller than that of th emodified huffman code with 91 codewords.

Statistical Analysis on the Measurement of the Image Quality of G3 facsimile (국내 G3 팩시밀리 화상품질에 관한 통계 분석)

  • Two user groups, expert and non-expert, are sampled to measure the image quality of G3 facsimile. A ITU-TS tset chart No. 2 has been transmitted among some selected cities and evaluated by user groups. Their subjective evaluation to the image quality is quantified by Mean Opinion Score method. There is highly significant difference in the image quality between expert and non-expert. From modified logit model, it is concluded that there is no significance in two considered factors, the effects of the number of links and transmission time. The derived percent curves show that 80% of non-experts(90% of expert) is considering the image quality of G3 facsimile "fair, good, or excellent".

  • A new image processor is implemented for high-speed digital copiers and facsimiles. The imgage processor performs CCD and CIS interface, pre-processing, enlargement andreduction of gray level image, and various halftoning algorithms. Implemented halftoning algorithms are simple thresholding, fuzzy based mixed mode thresholding, dithering, and edge enhanced error diffusion. The result of binarization is transferred to a printer with serial or paralel output ports. Line by line pipelined data prodessing architecture is employed with time sharing access of the external memory. In receiving mode, it converts the resolution of received binary image for compatibility with conventional facsimile. In copy mode, a line of A3 paper with 400 dpi is processed with in 2.5 ms. The prototype of image processor was implemented usig Laser Programmable Gate Array (LPGA) with 0.8.mu.m technology.
