  • Though there are high needs for the development of elderly house in rural area, there is not carried out at all. So, the purpose of this study is to provide the criteria to develop the architectural mode of elderly elderly house in rural area. The facts found in this study can be summarized as follows ; The elderly house in rural area. is increasingly being located near town. This is derived from the fact that the brand-new generation of the aged has the great likelihood to participate in social activities. So, Paid Elderly Home needs to be developed in town or suburbs. Medical facilities are indispensable in elderly house in rural area. So it is necessary that elderly house in rural area is closely connected with hospital and medical treatments. Inmates want small-sized rooms, thus one room shaped home should be built for these demands. And the flexibility of the spaces which can make two units into one should be applied to the plan and the design of the elderly house in rural area. The Home's medical facilities should be planned by considering the relationship with the Hospital. Factors for architectural planning of elderly house in rural area is movement pattern, safety facilities, and preferred subsidiary facilities through considering the physical and psychological characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the basic direction of the desirable spatial plan for elderly care facilities by analyzing the spatial characteristics of elderly care facilities in gyeongnam-province. As a research method, 189 elderly care facilities in gyeongnam-province were investigated for location conditions, site area, floor area, total floor area, and space composition. In addition, the area of each specific space was analyzed for two elderly care facilities with a typical floor plan. The results of the survey and analysis are as follows. First, the average number of people in the facility was 53.8, and the number of people in the facility needs to be planned to be medium or less so that they can live in a more comfortable environment in the future. Second, in the location type, it was found that many facilities were distributed in the order of suburban and rural type, urban type, mountain type, and waterfront type. In addition, in terms of facility space composition, the proportion of detached facilities was 50.8%. Complex facilities require a reasonable plan in consideration of the location type and other functional facility characteristics. Third, the average total floor area per person of elderly care facilities was 27.57m2. There is a limit to constructing a unique nursing space. In the composition of bedrooms, quadruple rooms account for 67.4%, but it is necessary to expand the proportion of bedrooms that can be used by fewer people.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the remodeling of Carnation House, examine the current state of the spatial remodeling, and propose the future direction of the spatial remodeling of communal life facilities for the elderly living alone. To this end, experimental investigation, photograph shooting, and interviews with managers were performed, and a remodeling analysis was conducted by comparing the data before and after the remodeling. The study results can be summarized as below. First, as there is no standard for the remodeling of communal life facilities for the elderly living alone, related guidelines should be provided in the near future. Second, more fundamental approach to the remodeling should be made considering medical services for the elderly's safety, universal design plans, lifestyles of the elderly, and their use behaviors. Third, as communal life facilities for the elderly living alone normally have small spaces due to the remodeling by change of use, variable spatial planning should be performed for the elderly to utilize communal life facilities as multi-purpose and multi-functional spaces. Fourth, as the terrace space is an essential remodeling space needed for the elderly's rest, communication, and creation of profits, its remodeling should be realized in such a way that various programs can be utilized. Fifth, it turned out that the exterior remodeling could change the overall image of the facilities through new materials and colors.

  • The considerable increase of the elderly with dementia is expected annually and when we think about the family members' and the patients' suffering, it could be painful. Above all things, it imposes heavy economic burdens on the family members that have patients who suffer from diseases of age like dementia or paralysis that caring them at home and also, it is not desirable for those old people in point of physical or environmental circumstances for medical care. Thus, it is needed urgently that the expansion of specified facilities and improvement of services for these old people. Under this present condition, it is the special feature that the subject of research is people/facilities that offer services, not the elderly with dementia-the main user of those facilities. Thus, it is the time that we need various accessing plans that can grasp the patiences' activities and specialties and solve these problems in view of designing interior space. So, I tried to make designs that manage the elderly with dementia effectively and adequate to run facilities with considerations on the state of domestic specialized long-term care facilities for the elderly with dementia and researched guiding principles on physical healing surroundings with analysis that focused on the patients' activities, especially.

Result: 1) Most researched facilities except SO provide and share opportunity for interaction with community and residents through space for regional interaction including cafe and various programs and interactive settings. 2) The facility which seeks regional linkage through Mixed-use of facilities can devide into (1) Mixed-use of facilities easy to found, (2) Addition of housing function (NM, SM, DM) and (3) Mixed-use with different facilities(HY, GM) 3) The characteristics of interaction and symbiosis between generations are (1) to adopt concept of life together to have interaction possibility with young generation and children: most studied facilities except SO (2) to establish elderly residence into facility to have interaction(FE, SM, GM) or place family room or single room into elderly residence (NM, DM, BN) (3) to disperse small facilities into community (FE) or facility or community realizing symbiosis through various facility arrangement (SM, GM). 4) Therefore, this study can categorize (1) Program network, (2) Temporary interaction, (3) Symbiosis residence, (4) Symbiosis community according to characteristics which regional linkage has. Implication: Regional Linkage is an important concept to improve social interaction in community-based facilities. It is a thought-provoking concept to Korean elderly facilities because Korean facilities are still far from a city and in isolated environment.
