  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information regarding the planning of lounge and hallway areas for skilled nursing facilities for the elderly, given that residents spend much of their time in these areas. This study examined Korean elderly residents' occupancy and behavior in lounges and hallways in order to analyze how plan type, spatial composition, and equipment affect residents. To do this, observations were conducted in five facilities that were provided to the elderly at no charge. Results indicate that a central garden offers a wide hallway area that can be used not only for strolling but also for list of activities; at the same time, it can reduce the overall rate of inactivity. A shorter distance between the lounge and hallway on the opposite side is likely to help better disperse residents' throughout the facility. Hallway corners have potential for activities that may require sofas, tables, or equipment for individual activities; they could also be used for planned interaction programs or unplanned collaboration on the part of small groups of residents.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the lighting situation of elderly people 's residential facilities in terms of space environment design plan and to analyze the trends in smart home, design and technology. It is to provide basic data for the prototype of lighting fixtures for elderly people living facilities considering functional, physiological and emotional characteristics. For the study, the target sites were selected and the results of the illumination survey of the target facilities were divided into two types of spaces, residential and other public spaces, and their location, lighting fixtures' type, color temperature, illuminance. The results of the survey showed that the overall physical illumination compared to the recommended illuminance for the elderly satisfied the recommended range and provided the appropriate brightness for the elderly. However, in the application layout of the lighting fixtures, a monotonous arrangement and a lighting fixtures type consisting entirely of simple square type fixtures and downlight types were applied. It would be desirable to use different types of lighting fixtures in the design for various functions, such as making the environment more comfortable. Future research will propose a prototype for the design direction of the subdivided lighting fixtures that classify the space according to functions and understand the vision problem of the elderly while aesthetically.

  • The development of science and technology has increased the average life expectancy and resulted in a significant increase in the elderly population. Due to the preponderance of the nuclear family in modern society and the weakening of the spirit of filial piety and respect for the elderly caused by the influence of Western civilization, elderly people are usually not living with their family, but have become dependent on elderly care facilities and, consequently, the number of elderly care facilities has increased significantly. On May 28, 2014, a fire occurred in the elderly care facilities in Jangseong, South Jeolla Province, and despite the rapid extinction of the fire by firefighters, 21 of the 28 casualties died due to smoke inhalation. This study was conducted for the purpose of providing measures to prevent smoke from entering into the rooms from which elderly people have difficulty evacuating in the case of fire. The use of the air curtain method to prevent smoke inflow was proposed and an experiment was conducted in which smoke was generated with a smoke generator. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that more than 90% of the smoke inflow was blocked if the door was closed in the room where the air curtain was installed.

In other words, in composition of a school facilities, elderly welfare facilities can be said to be an important problem. As a result of having analyzed an existing compound facilities, there was limited interchange of student and a the aged. In addition, there were problems such as learning environment by an intersection of circulation. Therefore, composition of educational facility and elderly welfare facilities is not space composition that is intersection of simple specification function. The questionnaire was constructed by classifying the use of oral welfare tools into 6 questions and the necessity and demand for oral welfare devices into 13 questions. Frequency analysis and technical analysis were performed for data analysis, and one-way ANOVA was performed for differences in the necessity and demand for oral welfare equipment. The statistical significance level was p<0.05. Results: As a result of examining the awareness of the necessity and demand for oral welfare equipment among workers in elderly facilities, the awareness of the necessity of including oral welfare equipment in the items of welfare equipment in the current long-term care insurance system was high at 4.15 points. As a result of analyzing the correlation between awareness of care products and the need and demand for oral welfare equipment, it was confirmed that there was a statistically significant positive correlation (p<0.01).
