In this study, we propose a new equation that evaluates the shear strength of beam-column connections in reinforced concrete and steel beam (RCS) composite materials. This equation encompasses the effect of shear keys, extended face bearing plates (E-FBP), and transverse beams on connection shear strength, as well as the contribution of cover plates. Mobilization coefficients for beam-column connections in the RCS composite system are suggested. The proposed model, validated by statistical analysis, provided the strongest correlation with test results for connections containing both E-FBP and transverse beams. Additionally, our results indicated that Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ) and Modified AIJ (M-AIJ) equations should be used carefully to evaluate the shear strength for connections that do not have E-FBP or transverse beams.
Safety concern is one of the most important parameters in the design of explosive building demolition. Laboratory experiments were performed to investigate the failure behaviour of concrete columns and the effects of protection materials. Fourteen reinforced columns with two sizes were constructed and the effects of protection materials were tested for two kinds of materials: non woven fabrics and wire net. The results showed that control of gas effects is a key to the control of flying chips. It was recommended to use both wire net and non woven fabrics as primary and secondary protection materials. Such protection method was successfully applied to the explosive demolition of 16 and 17-strory apartment buildings.and the results of a simulation on a model tunneling workings using diesel equipments are introduced. In case of typical model of tunneling face, the gas concentration of human height is about one third of roof concentration and right side half of the tunnel shows better environment than left half. NOx concentration of workings can be estimated about 0.45ppm which is much lower than permissible level(5 ppm).
In the present work, we proposed an analytical study on buckling behavior of a sandwich plate with polymeric core integrated with piezo-electro-magnetic layers such as BaTiO3 and CoFe2O4 reinforced by graphene platelets (GPLs). The Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model is used to describe the properties of the polymeric core. The governing equations of equilibrium are obtained from first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the Navier's method is employed to solve the equations. The results show the effect of different parameters such as thickness, length, weight fraction of GPLs, and also effect of electric and magnetic field on critical buckling load. The result of this study can be obtained in the aerospace industry and also in the design of sensors and actuators.

For hard rock subsea tunnels the most challenging rock mass conditions are in most cases represented by major faults/weakness zones. Poor stability weakness zones with large water inflow can be particularly problematic. At the pre-construction investigation stage, geological and engineering geological mapping, refraction seismic investigation and core drilling are the most important methods for identifying potentially adverse rock mass conditions. During excavation, continuous engineering geological mapping and probe drilling ahead of the face are carried out, and for the most recent Norwegian subsea tunnel projects, MWD (Measurement While Drilling) has also been used. During excavation, grouting ahead of the tunnel face is carried out whenever required according to the results from probe drilling. Sealing of water inflow by pre-grouting is particularly important before tunnelling into a section of poor rock mass quality. When excavating through weakness zones, a special methodology is normally applied, including spiling bolts, short blast round lengths and installation of reinforced sprayed concrete arches close to the face. The basic aspects of investigation, support and tunnelling for major weakness zones are discussed in this paper and illustrated by cases representing two very challenging projects which were recently completed (Atlantic Ocean tunnel and T-connection), one which is under construction (Ryfast) and one which is planned to be built in the near future (Rogfast).

Home security has become the prime concern for everyone in present scenario. In this work an attempt has been made to develop a home security system which is accessible, affordable and yet effective. The proposed system is based on 'Remote Embedded Control System' (RECS) which works both on the web and gsm platform for authentication and monitoring. This system is therefore cost effective as it relies on existing network infrastructure. As PCA is most popular and efficient algorithm for face recognition, it has been usedin this work. Next to it an interface has been developed for communication purpose in the embedded security system through the ZigBee module. Based on this embedded system, automated control of door movement has been implemented through electromagnetic door lock technology. This helps the users to monitor the real-time activities through web services/SMS. The web service consists of either web browser command or e-mail provision. The system establishes the communication between the system and authenticated user. The e-mail received by the system from the authorized person will monitor and control the real-time operation and door lock. The entire control system is reinforced using ARM1176JZF-S microcontroller and tested for actual use in the home environment. The result shows the experimental verification of the proposed system.
To upgrade shear performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams, and particularly of the segments under negative moment within continuous T-section beams, a series of original schemes has been proposed using carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) U-shaped strips for shear-strengthening. The current work focuses on one of them, in which CFRP U-strips are wound around steel bars against the top of the flange of a T-beam and then spliced on its bottom face in addition to being bonded onto its sides. The test results showed that the proposed scheme successfully provided reliable anchorage for U-strips and prevented premature onset of shear failure due to FRP debonding. The governing shear mode of failure changed from peeling of CFRP to its fracture or crushing of concrete. The strengthened specimens displayed an average increase of about 60% in shear capacity over the unstrengthened control one. The specimen with a relatively high ratio and uniform distribution of CFRP reinforcement had a maximum increase of nearly 75% in strength as well as significantly improved ductility. The formulas by various codes or guidelines exhibited different accuracy in estimating FRP contribution to shear resistance of the segments that are subjected to negative moment and strengthened with well-anchored FRP U-strips within continuous T-beams. Further investigation is necessary to find a suitable approach to predicting load-carrying capacity of continuous beams shear strengthened in this way.
The current study is dedicated to study the thermal effects of wave propagation in beams, reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNT). Beams, made up of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) are the future materials in various high tech industries. Herein a Winkler elastic foundation is assumed in order to make the model more realistic. Mostly, CNTs are pervaded in cross section of beam, in various models. So, it is tried to use four of the most profitable reconstructions. The homogenization of elastic and thermal properties such as density, Yong's module, Poisson's ratio and shear module of CNTRC beam, had been done by the demotic rule of mixture to homogenize, which gives appropriate traits in such settlements. To make this investigation, a perfect one, various shear deformation theories had been utilized to show the applicability of this theories, in contrast to their theoretical face. The reigning equation had been derived by extended Hamilton principle and the culminant equation solved analytically by scattering relations for propagation of wave in solid bodies. Results had been verified by preceding studies. It is anticipated that current results can be applicable in future studies.

Particles reinforced MMCs have many advantages over monolithic metals including a higher specific modulus, higher specific strength, better properties at elevated temperatures and better wear resistance. SiC$_p$/A16061 composites have good results in its mechanical properties. This work investigates SiC$_p$/A16061 composites in the microscopic view and compares the analytical results with the experimental ones. The discrepancy of the material properties between the reinforced particle, SiC$_p$, and the matrix material, A16061 appears to be so significant. Especially the coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) of A16061 is 5 times larger than that of SiC$_p$. Thermal residual stress in MMCs is induced at high temperatures. The shape of particle is various but the theoretical model is not able to consider the nonuniform shape. Particle distribution is not homogeneous in experimental specimen. However, it is assumed to be homogeneous in simulation model. The shapes of particles are assumed to be not only perfect global but hexahedral shapes. The types of particle distribution are two - simple cubic array(SC array) and face-centered cubic array(FCC array).

In the reinforced retaining wall system, non-woven geotextiles are placed at the face of reinforced earth until the facing blocks are built up. And when this system is used as temporary structure, geotextiles facings are exposed to sunlight during service lifetime. During these periods, degradation of nonwoven geotextiles are occurred by UV light. So the UV-resistance of nonwoven geotextiles must be assessed correctly, in considering of the site conditions. In this study, laboratory test and the field test have been performed to evaluate the UV resistance of non-woven geotextiles used in KOESWall system and the results are expressed in terms of tensile characteristics & SEM photographs.

This paper discusses a framework for predicting the flexural strength of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP reinforced T-shaped concrete beams using soft computing techniques. An analysis of 83 tests performed on T-beams of varying widths has been conducted for this purpose with different widths of compressive face, beam depth, compressive strength of concrete, area of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP bars, elasticity modulus of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP bars, and the ultimate tensile strength of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP bars. By analyzing the data using two soft computing techniques, named artificial neural networks (ANN) and gene expression programming (GEP), the fundamental parameters affecting the flexural performance of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP reinforced T-shaped beams were identified. The results showed that although the proposed ANN model outperformed the GEP model with higher values of R and lower error values, the closed-form equation of the GEP model can provide a simple way to predict the effect of input parameters on flexural strength as the output. The sensitivity analysis results revealed the most influential input parameters in ANN and GEP models are respectively the beam depth and elasticity modulus of FRP bars.
