Silver nanoparticles have been widely applied for biomedical areas owing to their potent antiviral and antibacterial activities. Synthesis of silver nanoparticles using biomacromolecules is more efficient, environment-friendly, and cost-saving compared with the traditional approach. In this paper, a novel approach was developed to establish a reaction system with $Ag^+-BH4^--sericin$ to synthesize silver nanoparticles conjugated to sericin (AgNPs-Sericin). Sericin could be as a good dispersant and stabilizing agent, which is able to modify nanoscaled AgNPs, the average diameter of which was only $3.78{\pm}1.14nm$ prepared in a 0.3 mg/ml sericin solution. The characterizations of the AgNPs-Sericin were determined by FTIR, thermogravimetry, and XRD analyses. The results showed that the synthesized AgNPs conjugated with sericin as organic phase. Via SAED and XRD analysis, we showed that these AgNPs formed polycrystalline powder with a face-centered cubic structure of bulk metals. Moreover, we investigated the antiviral and antibacterial activities of AgNPs-Sericin, and the results showed that AgNPs-Sericin exhibited potent anti-HIV-1 activity against CCR5-tropic and CXCR4-tropic strains, but no significant cytotoxicity was found toward human genital epithelial cells compared with free silver ions, which are accepted as a commonly used potent antimicrobial agent. Moreover, its antibacterial activity was determined via flow cytometry. The results showed that AgNPs-Sericin could suppress gram-negative (E. coli) and gram-positive (S. aureus) bacteria, but more was potent for the gram-negative one. We concluded that our AgNPs-Sericin could be a potential candidate as a microbicide or antimicrobial agent to prevent sexually transmitted infections.

Nanostructured cobalt materials have recently attracted considerable attention due to their potential applications in high-density data storage, magnetic separation and heterogeneous catalysts. The size as well as the morphology at the nano scale strongly influences the physical and chemical properties of cobalt nano materials. In this study, cobalt nano particles synthesized by a a polyol process, which is a liquid-phase reduction method, were investigated. Cobalt hydroxide ($Co(OH)_2$), as an intermediate reaction product, was synthesized by the reaction between cobalt sulphate heptahydrate ($CoSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$) used as a precursor and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) dissolved in DI water. As-synthesized $Co(OH)_2$ was washed and filtered several times with DI water, because intermediate reaction products had not only $Co(OH)_2$ but also sodium sulphate ($Na_2SO_4$), as an impurity. Then the cobalt powder was synthesized by diethylene glycol (DEG), as a reduction agent, with various temperatures and times. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), as a capping agent, was also added to control agglomeration and dispersion of the cobalt nano particles. The optimized synthesis condition was achieved at $220^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours with 0.6 of the PVP/$Co(OH)_2$ molar ratio. Consequently, it was confirmed that the synthesized nano sized cobalt particles had a face centered cubic (fcc) structure and with a size range of 100-200 nm.

In the present study silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were successfully synthesized using aqueous extract of Sargassum muticum. The aqueous extract (10%) treated with 1 mM silver nitrate solution resulted in the formation of AgNPs and the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of the formed AgNPs was recorded at 360 nm using UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The molecules involved in the formation of AgNPs were identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), surface morphology was studied by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), SEM micrograph clearly revealed the size of the AgNPs was in the range of 40-65 nm with spherical, hexagonal in shape and poly-dispersed nature, and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) was used to determine the crystalline structure. High positive Zeta potential (36.5 mV) of formed AgNPs indicates the stability and XRD pattern revealed the crystal structure of the AgNPs by showing the Bragg's peaks corresponding to (111), (200), (311) and (222) planes of face-centered cubic crystal phase of silver. The synthesized AgNPs exhibited effective anticancerous activity (at doses 25 and $50{\mu}g/ml$ of AgNPs) against Breast cancer cell line (MCF7).
Uniform diamond films in a few $\textrm{mm}^2$ size and locally isolated diamond single crystals in size of 60 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were synthesized on Si-wafer and Al2O3 substrate by the method of acetylene flame. The effects of substrate temperature and flow ratio of oxygen to acetylene on the morphology of deposited diamond were investigated. According to the observations of growth behavior of diamond on Si substrate with respect to substrate surface pretreatment and flow ratio, it was shown that well faceted diamonds could grow uniformly when flow ratio was above 0.9 and substrates were densely scratched. With increasing substrates temperature, the crystal morphology changes from octahedron bounded by only {111} plane below 850$^{\circ}C$ to cubo-octahedron with almost equal development of {111} and {100} plane in the temperature range of 850∼950$^{\circ}C$. Between 950∼1050$^{\circ}C$, the {111} faces become rough and concave. Above 1050$^{\circ}C$, new crystallites begin to grow on concave {111} surface and overall morphology looks like cubo-octahedron with degenerated {111} faces. These changes of morphology can be understood in terms of the different growth mode of each crystallographic plane with respect to the substrate temperature and supersaturation. And the observed phenomena on {111} planes can be related to the face instability and twin generation.

The water soluble carboxymethyl-chitin (CM-chitin) has been well known to be very useful to the cosmetic field as a moisturizer, a smoothener, a cell activater and a cleaner for face skin conditioning. In this study, the preparation process of CM-chitin was simplified with elimination of some procedures in the conventional method. The chitin powder was mixed with sodium hydroxide solution. And then a mixture of sodium monochloroacetate (or monochloroacetic acid) and isopropyl alcohol (or a mixed solution with water and isopropyl alcohol) was added to thorough the agitation and the freezing during 16 hours. The CM-chitin with a high degree of substitution by the improved process was obtained.

Muscle based face image synthesis is one of the most realistic approach to realize life-like agent in computer. Facial muscle model is composed of facial tissue elements and muscles. In this model, forces are calculated effecting facial tissue element by contraction of each muscle strength, so the combination of each muscle parameter decide a specific facial expression. Now each muscle parameter is decided on trial and error procedure comparing the sample photograph and generated image using our Muscle-Editor to generate a specific race image. In this paper, we propose the strategy of automatic estimation of facial muscle parameters from 2D marker movement using neural network. This also 3D motion estimation from 2D point or flow information in captered image under restriction of physics based fare model.

When mammalian cells and animals face a variety of internal or external stresses, they need to make homeostatic changes so as to cope with various stresses. To this end, mammalian cells are equipped with two critical stress responses, autophagy and cellular senescence. Autophagy and cellular senescence share a number of stimuli including telomere shortening, DNA damage, oncogenic stress and oxidative stress, suggesting their intimate relationship. Autophagy is originally thought to suppress cellular senescence by removing damaged macromolecules or organelles, yet recent studies also indicated that autophagy promotes cellular senescence by facilitating the synthesis of senescence-associated secretory proteins. These seemingly opposite roles of autophagy may reflect a complex picture of autophagic regulation on cellular senescence, including different types of autophagy or a unique spatiotemporal activation of autophagy. Thus, a better understanding of autophagy process will lead us to not only elucidate the conundrum how autophagy plays dual roles in the regulation of cellular senescence but also helps the development of new therapeutic strategies for many human diseases associated with cellular senescence. We address the pro-senescence and anti-senescence roles of autophagy while focusing on the potential mechanistic aspects of this complex relationship between autophagy and cellular senescence.
Operators face challenges to plan alternative countermeasures when no procedure exists to address the current plant state. A model-based approach is desired to aid operators in acquiring plant resources and deriving response plans. Multilevel flow modeling (MFM) is a functional modeling methodology that can represent intentional knowledge about systems, which is essential in response planning. This article investigates the capabilities of MFM to plan alternatives. It is concluded that MFM has a knowledge capability to represent alternative means that are designed for given ends and a reasoning capability to identify alternative functions that can causally influence the goal achievement. The second capability can be applied to find originally unassociated means to achieve a goal. This is vital in a situation where all designed means have failed. A technique of procedure synthesis can be used to express identified alternatives as a series of operations. A case of station blackout occurring at the boiling water reactor is described. An MFM model of a boiling water reactor is built according to the analysis of goals and functions. The accident situations are defined by the model, and several alternative countermeasures in terms of operating procedures are generated to achieve the goal of core cooling.
Antithrombogenic surFace is one of the most important things to the artificial vascular prostheses. This problem will be solved if the surface of prosthesis is covered with endothelial cells. The attachment and the growth of endothelial cells onto vascular prosthesis are very difficult. So many studies have been concentrated on the attachement of endothelial cell. But no good performance of the in uiwo experiments has been shown until now. In this study, we used the whole extracellular matrix (ECM) excreted from fibroblasts as an underlying matrix, and the endothelial cells were seeded to obtain the long term patency of vascular graft(i.e., for the patent 8 week implanted wafts in the animal model of rat). In order to study the antithrombogenic functions of cultured endothelial cells, prostaglandin(PGF 1 a) synthesis and platelet adhesion were assayed. The concentration of PGF a of stimulated group was sisnificantly higher than that of control group(21.97 $\pm$ 3.45 vs 4.93 $\pm$0.71 pg/1000 cells). The platelet adhesion of the polyurethane sheet covered with endothelial cells was lower than that of polyurethane sheet or sheet covered with ECM(1.04$\pm$0.28, 2.87$\pm$0.77, 2.89$\pm$0.70, % radioactivities, respectively). Endothelial cells grew well on polyurethane coated with ECM, synthesized the prostacyclin and functioned well as antithrombogenic. Therefore the endothelialization onto the ECM excreted from fibroblasts may be a good method for the vfudig prosthesis.
In this paper, a new rectification scheme to transform the uncalibrated stereo image pair into the calibrated one is suggested and its performance is analyzed by applying this scheme to the reconstruction of the intermediate views for multi-view stereoscopic display. In the proposed method, feature points are extracted from the stereo image pair by detecting the comers and similarities between each pixel of the stereo image pair. These detected feature points, are then used to extract moving vectors between the stereo image pair and the epipolar line. Finally, the input stereo image pair is rectified by matching the extracted epipolar line between the stereo image pair in the horizontal direction. Based on some experiments done on the synthesis of the intermediate views by using the calibrated stereo image pairs through the proposed rectification algorithm and the uncalibrated ones for three kinds of stereo image pairs; 'Man', 'Face' and 'Car', it is found that PSNRs of the intermediate views reconstructed from the calibrated images improved by about 2.5${\sim}$3.26 dB than those of the uncalibrated ones.
