This paper proposes a face detection and recognition method that combines the template matching method and the eigenface method with the neural network. In the face extraction step, the skin color information is used. Therefore, the search region is reduced. The global property of the face is achieved by the eigenface method. Face recognition is performed by a neural network that can learn the face property.

This paper proposed the real time face area detection using Wavelet transform and the strong detection algorithm that satisfies the efficiency of computation and detection performance at the same time was proposed. The detected face image recognizes the face by configuring the low-dimensional face symbol through the principal component analysis. The proposed method is well suited for real-time system construction because it doesn't require a lot of computation compared to the existing geometric feature-based method or appearance-based method and it can maintain high recognition rate using the minimum amount of information. In addition, in order to reduce the wrong recognition or recognition error occurred during face recognition, the input symbol of Hidden Markov Model is used by configuring the feature values projected to the unique space as a certain symbol through clustering algorithm. By doing so, any input face will be recognized as a face model that has the highest probability. As a result of experiment, when comparing the existing method Euclidean and Mahananobis, the proposed method showed superior recognition performance in incorrect matching or matching error.
Various facial pose detection and recognition has been a difficult problem. The problem is due to the fact that the distribution of various poses in a feature space is mere dispersed and more complicated than that of frontal faces, This thesis proposes a robust pose-expression-invariant face recognition method in order to overcome insufficiency of the existing face recognition system. First, we apply the TSL color model for detecting facial region and estimate the direction of face using facial features. The estimated pose vector is decomposed into X-V-Z axes, Second, the input face is mapped by deformable template using this vectors and 3D CANDIDE face model. Final. the mapped face is transformed to frontal face which appropriates for face recognition by the estimated pose vector. Through the experiments, we come to validate the application of face detection model and the method for estimating facial poses, Moreover, the tests show that recognition rate is greatly boosted through the normalization of the poses and expressions.
Face detection plays an important role in face recognition, video surveillance, and human computer interface. In this paper, we present a face detection system using eye detection with progressive thresholding from a digital camera. The face candidate is detected by using skin color segmentation in the YCbCr color space. The face candidates are verified by detecting the eyes that is located by iterative thresholding and correlation coefficients. Preprocessing includes histogram equalization, log transformation, and gray-scale morphology for the emphasized eyes image. The distance of the eye candidate points generated by the progressive increasing threshold value is employed to extract the facial region. The process of the face detection is repeated by using the increasing threshold value. Experimental results show that more enhanced face detection in real time.

We propose a more stable robust recognition algorithm which detects faces reliably even in cases where there are changes in lighting and angle of view, as well it satisfies efficiency in calculation and detection performance. We propose detects the face area alone after normalization through pre-processing and obtains a feature vector using (PCA). The feature vector is applied to LDA and using Euclidean distance of intra-class variance and inter class variance in the 2nd dimension, the final analysis and matching is performed. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a wider distribution when the input image is rotated $45^{\circ}$ left / right. We can improve the recognition rate by applying this feature value to a single algorithm and complex algorithm, and it is possible to recognize in real time because it does not require much calculation amount due to dimensional reduction.

Face recognition is very challenging because of the unexpected changes of pose, expression, and illumination. Facial detection in the mobile environments has additional difficulty since the computational resources are very limited. This paper discusses face detection based on frequency domain matched filtering in the mobile environments. Face detection is performed by a linear or phase-only matched filter and sequential verification stages. The candidate window regions are selected by a number of peaks of the matched filtering outputs. The sequential stages comprise a skin-color test and an edge mask filtering tests, which aim to remove false alarms among selected candidate windows. The algorithms are built with JAVA language on the mobile device operated by the Android platform. The simulation and experimental results show that real-time face detection can be performed successfully in the mobile environments.

This paper presents a margin-based face liveness detection method with behavioral confirmation to prevent spoofing attacks using deep learning techniques. The proposed method provides a possibility to prevent biometric person authentication systems from replay and printed spoofing attacks. For this work, a set of real face images and fake face images was collected and a face liveness detection model is trained on the constructed dataset. Traditional face liveness detection methods exploit the face image covering only the face regions of the human head image. However, outside of this region of interest (ROI) might include useful features such as phone edges and fingers. The proposed face liveness detection method was experimentally tested on the author's own dataset. Collected databases are trained and experimental results show that the trained model distinguishes real face images and fake images correctly.

This paper proposes a novel face detection method that finds tiny faces located at a long range even with low-resolution input images captured by a mobile robot. The proposed approach can locate extremely small-sized face regions of $12{\times}12$ pixels. We solve a tiny face detection problem by organizing a system that consists of multiple detectors including a mean-shift color tracker, short- and long-rage face detectors, and an omega shape detector. The proposed method adopts the long-range face detector that is well trained enough to detect tiny faces at a long range, and limiting its operation to only within a search region that is automatically determined by the mean-shift color tracker and the omega shape detector. By focusing on limiting the face search region as much as possible, the proposed method can accurately detect tiny faces at a long distance even with a low-resolution image, and decrease false positives sharply. According to the experimental results on realistic databases, the performance of the proposed approach is at a sufficiently practical level for various robot applications such as face recognition of non-cooperative users, human-following, and gesture recognition for long-range interaction.

We present a novel method for face detection and recognition methods applicable to video retrieval. The person matching efficiency largely depends on how robustly faces are detected in the video frames. Face regions are detected in video frames using viola-jones features boosted with the Adaboost algorithm After face detection, PCA (Principal Component Analysis) follows illumination compensation to extract features that are classified by SVM (Support Vector Machine) for person identification. Experimental result shows that the matching efficiency of the ensembled architecture is quit satisfactory.

Natural User Interface(NUI) technologies introduce new trends in using devices such as computer and any other electronic devices. In this paper, an augmented reality on a mobile device is implemented by using face detection, recognition and motion tracking. The face detection is obtained by using Viola-Jones algorithm from the images of the front camera. The Eigenface algorithm is employed for face recognition and face motion tracking. The augmented reality is implemented by overlapping the rear camera image and GPS, accelerator sensors' data with the 3D graphic object which is correspond with the recognized face. The algorithms and methods are limited by the mobile device specification such as processing ability and main memory capacity.
