A Dynamic Traffic Analysis Model for the Korean Expressway System using FTMS (FTMS 자료를 활용한 고속도로 Corridor 동적 분석)

  • Operation of intelligent transport systems technologies in transportation networks and more detailed analysis give rise to necessity of dynamic traffic analysis model. Existing static models describe network state in average. on the contrary, dynamic traffic analysis model can describe the time-dependent network state. In this study, a dynamic traffic model for the expressway system using FTMS data is developed. Time-dependent origin-destination trip tables for nationwide expressway network are constructed using TCS data. Computation complexity is critical issue in modeling nationwide network for dynamic simulation. A subarea analysis model is developed which converts the nationwide O-D trip tables into subarea O-D trip tables. The applicability of the proposed model is tested under various scenario. This study can be viewed as a starting point of developing deployable dynamic traffic analysis model. The proposed model needs to be expanded to include arterial as well without critical computation burden.

Analysis of Diversion Rate using Expressway Traffic Data(FTMS, TCS): Focusing on Maesong~Balan IC at Seohaean Expressway (고속도로 교통데이터(FTMS, TCS)를 이용한 경로전환율 분석: 서해안고속도로 매송~발안 구간을 중심으로)

  • Due to growing interests in the distribution of traffic volume through information dissemination such as VMS and traffic broadcasting system, the research on the driver's reaction and effect of the traffic report has continued. In this study, we propose a methodology, which estimates the traffic volume of diversion and the consequential diversion rate using FTMS data and TCS data, and the estimation is based on the analysis of the national highway and IC, in which real-time FTMS and TCS data are established. We also calculate the diversion rate of actual targeted sections and analyze the changes in time and spatial diversion rate. In this study, we define a deviation (considering a deviation due to dynamic properties of traffic conditions) found when the outflow traffic volume is temporarily higher than the average outflow traffic volume on a relevant time slot after providing traffic information. The diverting volume is considered to be caused by the traffic information, and the study determines the ratio of traffic volume on highways to that of route diversion as the diversion rate. The analysis on changes in the diversion rate in accordance with the time flow, the initial change in the diversion rate on upstream IC that first acquires the report on the traffic congestion is significant. After that, the change in the diversion rate on upstream IC affects the route diversion on downstream IC with spatial and time flow, and this again leads the change in upstream IC. Thereby, we confirmed that there is a feedback-control circulation system in the route diversion.

  • The goal of this paper is to develop freeway Origin-Destination (OD) demand estimation model using real-time traffic data collected from Freeway Traffic Management System (FTMS). In existing research, the micro-simulation models had been used to get a link distribution proportion by time process. Because of hi-level problem between the traffic flow model and the optimal OD solution algorithm, it is difficult for the existing models to be loaded at FTMS. The formulation of methodology proposed in this paper includes traffic flow technique to be able to remove the bi-level problem and optimal solution algorithm using a genetic algorithm. The proposed methodology is evaluated by using the real-time data of SOHAEAN freeway, South Korea.

  • In this paper, we propose an integrated techniques for managing data quality in traffic data warehousing environments. We describe how to collect and construct the traffic data warehouses from the operational databases, such as FTMS and ARTIS. We explain how to configure the traffic data warehouses efficiently. Also, we propose a quality management techniques to provide high quality traffic data for various analytical transactions. Proposed techniques can contribute in providing high quality traffic data to the traffic related users and researcher, thus reducing data preprocessing and evaluation cost.

Sustainability Practices as Determinants of Financial Performance: A Case of Malaysian Corporations

  • This research is carried out to investigate the relationship between sustainability practices and performance in a financial sense for Malaysian Oil and Gas sector. Objectives include to study the state of sustainability disclosure among Malaysian oil and gas companies, to understand if companies that practiced sustainability had better performances to their financial bottom-line and to conduct a data analysis to understand the relationship between Environmental, social and governance performance [represented by the acronym ACSI] and financial performance. Sustainability performance is measured using ACSI checklist, which is an adaptation of the GRI 3.0 by Global reporting initiative while financial performance was measured on financial and profitability parameters namely EBITDA, EPS and PE ratio. Secondary data sources are used which were then converted into a rating scale to develop quantitative data. SPSS 21 is used for the analysis. The result shows that the majority of oil and gas companies in Malaysia had poor performance in terms of sustainability disclosure. On all three chosen profitability parameters, the companies that practiced sustainability were found to perform better than their counterparts that did not. Strong and significant relationship exists between sustainability practices and better financial performance.

Perceived Risk Factors Affecting Consumers' Online Shopping Behaviour

  • The study examines the impact of financial risk, convenience risk, non-delivery risk; return policy risk and product risk on online consumer behavior of Malaysian consumers. The research employed a self-administered survey to collect empirical data from 245 Malaysian online shoppers by using convenience sampling. Cronbach alpha was calculated to confirm the reliability of the data and then normality was assessed. Confirmatory Factor Analysis was then conducted to test the model using the goodness-of-fit tests. And finally, structural equation modeling is used to test the hypotheses and draw conclusions. IBM SPSS AMOS version 22.0 was utilized for data analysis. The research indicates that product risk, convenience risk, and return policy risk have a significant and positive impact on online shopping behavior. Financial risk is found to have insignificant and negative effects on consumer behavior. In addition, the non-delivery risk is found to have a significant and negative impact on online shopping behavior. The findings provide a useful model for measuring and managing perceived risk in online shopping which may result in an increase in participation of Malaysian consumers and reduce their cognitive deficiencies in the e-commerce environment. Several managerial implications are discussed along with the scope for future research.

  • Purpose: This research investigates the impact of technology adoption on organisation productivity. The framework has three independent variables viz. technological change, information technology (IT) infrastructure, and IT knowledge management and one dependent variable as organisational productivity. Research design, data and methodology: An explanatory research design with a quantitative research method was employed, and data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire using online as well as an offline survey. The sample consisted of 300 IT managers and senior-level executives (production as well as service team) in leading IT companies in Malaysia selected using snowball sampling. Normality and reliability assessment was performed in the first stage utilising SPSS 22, and Confirmatory Factory Analysis (CFA) was performed with maximum likelihood estimation to assess the internal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. Finally, Structural Equation Model (SEM) and path analysis are conducted using AMOS 22. Results: The research findings demonstrated that technological change and IT infrastructure positively and significantly impact the organisation's productivity while IT knowledge management has significant but negative impact on organizational productivity of IT companies in Malaysia. Conclusion: The research concludes that all three factors plays important role in deciding organizational producvity. Recommendations, implications, limitations and future research avenues are discussed.

Construction Method of Time-dependent Origin-Destination Traffic Flow for Expressway Corridor Using Individual Real Trip Data (실제 통행기록 자료를 활용한 고속도로 Corridor 시간대별 O-D 구축)

  • More practical outputs and insights can be obtained through transportation analysis considering the time-dependent traffic movements. This study proposes a method of constructing time-dependent O-D trip tables for expressway corridor using real-world individual trip data. In this study, time-dependent O-D trip tables for the nationwide highway network are constructed based on toll collection system data. The proposed methodology is to convert nationwide time-dependent O-D trip tables into Korean expressway corridor O-D trip tables in order to deal with the computational complexity arising from simulating a large-scale traffic network. The experiment results suggest that actual individual trip record data can be used to effectively construct time-dependent O-D trip tables. They also imply that the construction of time-dependent O-D trip tables for the national highway networks along with those for Korean expressway developed in this study would make transportation analysis more practical and applicable to real-time traffic operation and control.

A Study on the Capacity Analysis of 8-lane basic section Freeway (8차로 고속도로 기본구간 용량분석에 관한 연구)

  • It is very important to analyze the capacity of basic freeway section in terms of planning, design, and operation of roads. Capacity, in Korean Highway Capacity Manual was Published in 1992, had been determined by data collected in only 4-lane freeway. But, Korea is continuously planning and constructing multi-lane roads for increasing traffic demand. For this reason, it is necessary to determine the capacity for multi-lane freeways. This study goals are two-fold the determination of lane capacity for 8-lane freeway; and the development of methodology determining total capacity using lane friction factor This study utilized the data collected by loop detectors at a station of FTMS in Kyungbu expressway. For determining capacities, this study analyzed maximum flow rate in various aspects such as collecting period, each lane, and total lane in one-way. In addition, this study evaluated the breakdown in traffic flow relations in order to find out interrelation of breakdown among lanes. Through this analysis, this study determined lane friction factors, critical speed, and critical density. Finally, this study expressed a new methodology of capacity analysis for multi-lane freeways using some findings from this analysis.
