  • Frequency transposition (FT) hearing system was designed for individuals with little or no residual hearing at high frequencies. This device compresses and shifts the wide-band, high frequency acoustic energy where important features for speech perception are concentrated to the audible, lower range of frequencies. The usefulness of the FT system was investigated for 12 patients (7 children and 5 adults) with severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing losses compared with conventional hearing aids. Results suggest that the hearing impaired can benefit from the FT system with appropriate selection criteria and auditory (re)habilitation program.

  • Plants have become physiologically adapted to a seasonally shifting environment by evolving many sensory mechanisms. Seasonal flowering is a good example of adaptation to local environmental demands and is crucial for maximizing reproductive fitness. Photoperiod and temperature are major environmental stimuli that control flowering through expression of a floral inducer, FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) protein. Recent discoveries made using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana have shown that the functions of photoreceptors are essential for the timing of FT gene induction, via modulation of the transcriptional activator CONSTANS (CO) at transcriptional and post-translational levels in response to seasonal variations. The activation of FT transcription by the fine-tuned CO protein enables plants to switch from vegetative growth to flowering under inductive environmental conditions. The present review briefly summarizes our current understanding of the molecular mechanisms by which the information of environmental stimuli is sensed and transduced to trigger FT induction in leaves.

  • The important factor is keeping the temperature condition in quantifying several toxic components in combustion gases. In case of not keeping the temperature as it was in combustion, the change of component and concentration of smoke gases was inevitable. To solve this problem, FT-IR spectroscopy with gas cell was applied. But, there is also a difficulty in quantitative analysis of specific toxic component because of water vapor. Thus, in this study, water vapor FT-IR spectra with different concentrations were obtained and applied them to quantitative analysis.

  • To improve mean-life and reliability of power cable in this study, we have investigated chemical properties showing by changing the content of carbon black that is semiconductive additives for underground power transmission. Specimens were made of sheet form with the three of existing resins and the nine of specimens for measurement. Chemical properties of specimens was measured by FT-ATR (Fourier Transform Attenuated Total Reflectance). The condition of specimens was a solid sheet. We could observe functional group (C=O, carbonyl group) of specimens through FT-ATR. From these experimental result, the concentration of functional group (C=O) was high according to increasing the content of carbon black. We could know EEA was excellent more than other specimens from above experimental results.

  • Compositions of methionine-metal chelates have been investigated by FT-IR and XRD studies to elucidate their molecular structures. It was concluded that Copamin and Zincamin contain a high percentage of crystalline products, presumably 2:1 Methionine-Cu or Zn complexes. On the contrary, FT-IR and XRD spectra of Ferramin didn't show any characteristics of the chelate and it was concluded to contain major components of starting $FeSO_4$ and methionine without chelation.

  • In this study, flame retardant mixtures of decabromodiphenylethane (DBDPE) and Sb2O3 were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The experimentally obtained wavenumbers of DBDPE and Sb2O3 were 1321 and 949 cm-1, respectively, whereas those obtained by theoretical calculation were 1370 and 818 cm-1, respectively. Strong correlation was observed between the mixing molar ratios and observed peak area ratios, suggesting that FT-IR analysis can be used to obtain relative amounts of the individual components of flame retardant mixture.
