비정질 할로이사이트 나노입자의 교차적층 구조에 따른 탄소섬유/에폭시 라미네이트의 저속 충격 특성 (Low Velocity Impact Property of CF/Epoxy Laminate according to Interleaved Structure of Amorphous Halloysite Nanotubes)

  • 필라멘트 와인딩 공정을 사용한 FRP 복합재의 적층 구조는 기존의 FRP 복합재의 적층 구조와는 다를 뿐만 아니라 일반적인 적층 구조를 토대로 기계적 물성에 대해서 분석하고자 한다면 그에 대한 영향을 파악하는 것이 어렵다. 따라서 전반적인 성능을 향상시키기 위해 기계적 물성을 개선하고 교차 적층 구조를 최적화하는 것이 필수적이다. 따라서 본 연구는 비정질 할로이사이트 나노튜브(Amorphous Halloysite Nanotubes, A-HNT)를 5개의 층 배열을 통해 교차 적층 탄소 섬유 강화 플라스틱(CFRP) 구조의 저속 충격 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하는 것을 목표로 한다. 중량 낙하식 충격시험을 통하여 라미네이트의 저속 충격 특성을 확인하였으며, 충격을 가한 후에 현미경을 통하여 충격 파손 모드와 손상 정도를 비교 평가하였다. 나노 입자의 첨가 여부에 따른 각각의 교차 적층 구조 라미네이트를 10 J과 15 J의 충격에너지에서 비교하였다. 10 J의 경우 흡수에너지는 각 구조에서 비슷한 경향을 보였다. 그에 비해 15 J의 경우 흡수에너지는 각 구조에서 다른 흡수에너지를 가지며, 나노 입자가 첨가되지 않은 구조가 가장 높은 흡수에너지를 가진다. 또한 광학현미경을 통하여 각 구조에서 다양한 충격 파손 모드가 관찰되었다.

3-D 복합재료 샌드위치 구조물의 2층 경전철 철도차량 구조체 적용성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Application of 3-D Sandwich Composite Structures to the Double-deck Light Train Carbody)

  • Composites are very useful material for light train carbody due to its high specific strength and lightweight characteristics. The composites, called 3-D board, are developed with a special stitching method. In this process, the glass fiber fabrics of skin material and foam core material are stitched together with glass fiber thread. The glass thread in Z-axis turns into FRP form. The conventional delamination problem can be solved with 3-D sandwich structure. In addition, with the lower density of foam, the weight of the panel and the operation expenses can be highly reduced. To evaluate the usefulness of the 3-D board, the double-deck light train carbody is studied. The stress analyses are carried out under various loads and boundary conditions with FEM Code, ANSYS. On comparing with the aluminum carbody, 3-D board carbody can be reduced by about 2 ton for the total weight of carbody.

테라헤르츠파를 이용한 풍력터빈 블레이드 NDE 탐상 평가기법 (NDE Inspecting Techniques for Wind Turbine Blades Using Terahertz Waves)

  • Terahertz waves (T-ray) was extensively studied for the NDE (nondestructive evaluation) of characterization of trailing edges for a use of turbines composed with composite materials. The used NDE system were consisted of both CW(Continuous wave) and TDS (Time domain spectroscopy). The FRP composites were utilized for two kinds of both trailing edges of wind energy (non-conducting polymeric composites) and carbon fiber composites with conducting properties. The signals of T-ray in the TDS (Time domain spectroscopy) mode resembles almost that of ultrasound waves; however, a terahertz pulse could not penetrate a material with conductivity unlike ultrasound. Also, a method was suggested to obtain the "n" in the materials, which is called the refractive index (n). The data of refractive index (n) could be solved for the trailing edges. The trailing edges were scanned for characterization and inspection. C-scan and B-scan images were obtained and best optimal NDE techniques were suggested for complicated geometry samples by terahertz radiation. Especially, it is found that the defect image of T-ray corresponded with defect locations for the trailing edges of wind mill.

Finite element parametric study of RC beams strengthened with carbon nanotubes modified composites

  • This paper aims at investigating the capability of different FRP/concrete interface models to predict the effect of carbon nanotubes on the flexural behavior of RC beams strengthened with CFRP. Three different interfacial bond models are proposed to simulate the adhesion between CFRP composites and concrete, namely: full bond, nonlinear spring element, and cohesive zone model. 3D Nonlinear finite element model is developed then validated using experimental work conducted by the authors in a previous investigation. Cohesive zone model (CZM) has the best agreement with the experimental results in terms of load-deflection response. CZM is the only bond model that accurately predicted the cracks patterns and failure mode of the strengthened RC beams. The FE model is then expanded to predict the effect of bond strength on the flexural capacity of RC beams strengthened with externally bonded CNTs modified CFRP composites using CZM bond model. The results reveal that the flexural capacity of the strengthened beams increases with increasing the bond strength value. However, only 23% and 22% of the CFRP stress and strain capacity; in the case of full bond; can be utilized before failure.

  • 중량의 감소 및 향상된 기계적 특성은 항공 우주 산업으로의 적용을 위한 재료의 새로운 소재를 개발하기 위해 주요한 인자이다. 복합소재는 가벼운 무게와 탁월한 물성으로 항공기와 타 교통수단용 소재로써 주목을 받아왔다. 특히 섬유강화 복합소재의 경우 금속을 대신할 소재로 사용되어 왔는데 이는 금속과 고분자 소재보다 우수한 물성을 나타내기 때문이다. 이러한 이유로 복합소재는 비행기의 구조물로 사용되어 왔다. 본 리뷰에서는 항공기에 적용된 복합소재의 장점과 섬유강화 플라스틱 복합소재 소재에 대하여 정리하였다.

Seismic performance of RC bridge piers subjected to moderate earthquakes

  • Experimental investigation was conducted to evaluate the seismic ductility of earthquake-experienced concrete columns with an aspect ratio of 2.5. Eight circular concrete columns with a diameter of 600 mm were constructed with three test parameters: confinement ratio, lap-splice of longitudinal bars, and retrofitting with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials. The objective of this research is to examine the seismic performance of RC bridge piers subjected to a Quasi static test (QST), which were preliminary tested under a series of artificial earthquake motions referred to as a Pseudo dynamic test (PDT). The seismic enhancement effect of FRP wrap was also investigated on these RC bridge piers. Six specimens were loaded to induce probable damage by four series of artificial earthquakes, which were developed to be compatible with earthquakes in the Korean peninsula by the Korea Highway Corporation (KHC). Directly after the PDT, six earthquake-experienced columns were subjected to inelastic cyclic loading under a constant axial load of $0.1{f_c}^{\prime}A_g$. Two other reference specimens without the PDT were also subjected to similar quasi-static loads. Test results showed that specimens pre-damaged by moderate artificial earthquakes generally demonstrated good residual seismic performance, which was similar to the corresponding reference specimen. Moreover, RC bridge specimens retrofitted with wrapping fiber composites in the potential plastic hinge region exhibited enhanced flexural ductility.

Restoration of pre-damaged RC bridge columns using basalt FRP composites

  • This study aims to identify the effect of both longitudinal reinforcement details and damage level on making a decision of repairing pre-damaged bridge columns using basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) jackets. Two RC bridge columns with improper details of the longitudinal and/or transverse reinforcement were tested under the effect of a constant axial load and increasing lateral cyclic loading. Test results showed that the lap-splice column exhibited an inferior performance where it showed rapid degradation of strength before achieving the theoretical strength and its deformation capacity was limited; however, quick restoration is possible through a suitable rehabilitation technique. On the other hand, expensive repair or even complete replacement could be the decision for the column with the confinement failure mode. After that, a rehabilitation technique using external BFRP jacket was adopted. Performance-based design details guaranteeing the enhancement in the inelastic performance of both damaged columns were addressed and defined. Test results of the repaired columns confirmed that both reparability and the required repairing time of damage structures are dependent on the reinforcement details at the plastic hinge zone. Furthermore, lap-splice of longitudinal reinforcement could be applied as a key design-tool controlling reparability and restorability of RC structures after massive actions.

FRP의 사출성형에 있어서 섬유배향상태와 섬유함유율분포에 관한 연구 (Study on the Fiber Orientation and Fiber Content Ratio Distribution during the Injection Molding for FRP)

  • Injection molding is a very important industrial process for the manufacturing of plastics objects. During an injection molding process of composites, the fiber-matrix separation and fiber orientation are caused by the flow of molten polymer/fiber mixture. As a result, the product tends to be nonhomogeneous and anisotropic. Hence, it is very important to clarify the relations between separation orientation and injection molding conditions. So far, there is no research on the measurement of fiber orientation using image processing. In this study, the effects of fiber content ratio and molding condition on the fiber orientation-angle distributions are studied experimentally. Using the image processing method, the fiber orientation distribution of weld-line in injection-molded products is assessed. And the effects of fiber content and injection mold-gate conditions on the fiber orientation are also discussed.

탄소섬유쉬트로 보강된 원형CFT기둥의 압축거동과 ACI 440 code를 응용한 압축내력예측식 제안 (Axial Loading Behaviors and ACI 440 Code Applied Ultimate Axial Strength Formula of CFRP Strengthened Circular CFT Columns)

  • 본 연구에서는 CFRP쉬트로 보강된 원형 CFT기둥의 압축거동을 관찰하고 설계식을 제안하였다. 원형 CFT기둥의 CFRP쉬트의 보강효과를 관찰하기 위해 10개의 실험체를 제작하여 중심축하중 실험을 수행하였다. 실험변수로는 CFRP쉬트 보강겹수와 직경-두께비(D/t)이다. 실험결과 원형CFT기둥에 CFRP쉬트 보강을 통해 압축내력을 증가시킨 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 ACI 440code를 응용하여 CFRP 보강된 원형 CFT기둥의 압축내력을 예측하기 위한 설계식을 제안한다. 제안식을 분석한 결과 실험결과와 비교적 일치한 것으로 나타났다.

반응표면분석법을 이용한 FRP Leaf Spring의 최적설계 (Optimal Design of FRP Taper Spring Using Response Surface Analysis)

  • 본 논문은 겹판 스프링의 정적 스프링 상수를 가지고 복합재료 데이퍼 스프링을 최적설계 하였다. 두께와 폭을 설계변수로 실정하였다. 회귀모형의 목적함수는 상용 해석 프로그램을 통해 얻었다. 회귀모형의 함수를 가지고 회귀계수를 계산한 후, DOT를 이용하여 최적해를 구하였다. 설계에 이용된 복합재료로는 E-glass/epoxy와 carbon/epoxy를 선정하였고 겹판 스프링과 비교 해석하였다. 그 결과 정적 스프링 상수는 최적화된 복합재료 스프링들과 겹판 스프링이 1%내로 일치함을 보였다.
