Most of the recent studies have improved the efficiency of FRP jackets for increasing the compressive strength, shear strength, and ductility of reinforced concrete columns; however, the influence of FRP jackets on the flexural capacity is slight. Although new methods such as NSM (near surface mounted) are utilized to solve this problem, yet practical difficulties, behavior dependency on adhesives, and brittle failure necessitate finding better methods. This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the application of fiber-reinforced polymer fastened mechanically to the concrete columns to improve the flexural capacity of RC columns. For this purpose, mechanical fasteners were used to achieve the composite behavior of FRP and concrete columns. The experimental program included five reinforced concrete columns retrofitted by different methods using FRP subjected to constant axial compression and lateral cyclic loading. The experimental results showed that the use of the new method proposed in this paper increased the flexural strength and lateral load capacity of the columns significantly, and good composite action of FRP and RC column was achieved. Moreover, the experimental results were compared with the results obtained from the analytical study based on strain compatibility, and good proximity was reached.

This paper describes the need for a ductile Fiber Reinforced Plastic(FRP) reinforcement for concrete structures. Using the material hybrid and geometric hybrid, it is demonstrated that the pseudo-ductility characteristic can be generated in FRP rebar. Ductile hybrid FRP bars were successfully fabricated at 4mm and l0mm nominal diameters using an hand lay up method. Tensile specimens from these bars were tested and compared with behavior of FRP rebar and steel bar

DFRCC (ductile fiber reinforced cementitious composites), which are a significantly improved ductile material compared to conventional concrete, were evaluated as a new construction material with a high potential applications to concrete structures for a range of purposes. In this study, experiments on the failure behavior of composite beams with a DFRCC and FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) plank with a rib used as permanent formwork and tensile reinforcement were carried out. A normal concrete and a fiber reinforced concrete with PVA series of RF4000 and the PP series of PP-macro were used for comparison, and each RF4000+RSC15 and PP-macro+RSC15 was tested by producing composite beams. The experimental results of the FRP plank without a sand coating showed that sliding failure mode between the FRP plank and concrete started from a flexural crack at the beam center; therefore it is necessary for the FRP plank to be coated with sand and the effect of the fiber to failure mode did not appear to be huge. The experiment of the FRP plank with a sand coating showed that both 1200mm and 2000mm allowed sufficient bonding between the concrete and FRP plank. The maximum load of the fiber reinforced concrete was higher than that of normal concrete and the case which a series of PP fiber was mixed showed the highest value. The crack latency caused by the fibers led to composite action with a FRP rib.

The widespread deterioration of concrete structures has required the development of new and innovative materials and technologies for strengthening and repair. Recently Fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) composites have received widespread attention as materials for the strengthening and repair of the deteriorated concrete structures. This paper presents the results of Fire-performance of RC beams strengthened with FRP-Aluminum composit hollow beams. Test results show that the higher-damaged FRP strengthened RC beams are more vulnerable to the fire and decrease the effect of FRP strenthening.
In order to apply the properties of fiber reinforced plastic(FRP) to support panel of polyurethane foam in LNG storage tank, we estimated the mechanical properties, degree of vapour barrier, chemical stability and thermal conductivity changes as ageing. According to the results, the mechanical strength (i.g. compressive strength, bending strength, tensile strength and shear strength) are more than 30 times higher than those of plywood. The FRP-polyurethane foam(PUF) composites have lower thermal conductivity changes as ageing than plywood-PUF composites. FRP-PUF sandwich composite for LNG storage tank with these remarkable properties are compared the abilities of these structures with those of the conventional structures(plywood-PUF sandwich composite). Finally, we can obtain the effects such as superior mechanical properties and fuel saving through improved ability of vapor barrier.

This paper describes effect of the bending deformation of high voltage composite bushing with winding tension. The composite bushing can be formed, by adding silicone rubber sheds to a tube of composite materials. The FRP tube is internal insulating part of a composite bushing and is designed to ensure the mechanical characteristics. Generally the properties of FRP tube can be influenced by the winding angle, wall thickness and winding tension. As winding tension is increased glass contents was increased in the range of 70.4~76.6%. In the bending test, winding tension is increased residual deflection was decreased in the range of 14.0~12.2 mm.

Application of the soil nailing system is continuously extended to stabilize excavations and slopes. Although there are many applications in the construction site, the system is still needed to improve its mechanical performance and durability. So, the use of FRP for this system can be an alternative for the conventional system. Recently, there has been a greatly increased demand for the use of FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) in civil engineering applications due to their superior mechanical and physical properties. This paper presents an experimental and theoretical study on the flexural behavior of FRP plate to develop fabricated permanent soil nailing system. In this study, mechanical properties of FRP plate have been investigated. Rectangular FRP plates that is simply supported and uniformly loaded over the area of a circle at the center of plate are analyzed by experiment, classical plate theory, and finite element method. From the results of analysis we can determine the shape of curved FRP plate which will exert certain amount of prestressing force in soil nail.

Fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) have been widely used because of their high specific strength, high specific stiffness and etc. Although these kinds of FRP have various merits in applications, it has been had one of the complicated problems to manufacture their wooden mold. For these reasons, the simple methods to manufacture the mold required in the FRP industries. To improve these kinds of problems, the molding system using composite materials was developed. By this new manufacturing techniques and high functional FRP composite mold was built. Comparing with wooden mold, the process efficiencies of frame manufacturing process and inner mold manufacturing process were improved approximately 40% and 70%, respectively.
