  • The Unreal Engine is a free game engine developed by Epic Games. In this paper, we propose a First Person Shooter (FPS) game development using free Unreal Development Kit. The merit of Unreal engine provide a hight degree of portability, and it is a tool used by many game developers today, supporting a multitude of platforms on personal computers and many video game consoles with free toolkit. But it is required high-performance PC to develop game. This toolkit doe s not high-quality computer programming skill, just possible to develop FPS game easily.

  • In the market of First Person Shooter (FPS) games, Massively Multi-player Online FPS games (MMOFPS) like 'PlanetSide 2' have been popular recently. Dead reckoning has been widely used in order to mitigate the network traffic overload for the game server with hundreds or thousands of people. This paper proposes the efficient analytical method to calculate the tolerable threshold angle of moving direction, which is one of the most important factors for character status updating when dead reckoning is used in MMOFPS games. The experimental results with game testers shows that the proposed method minimizes the position error for character moving and provides natural direction updates of characters.

  • In this study, the influence of player motivations in FPS(First Person Shooter) online game on flow, consumer satisfaction and loyalty was analyzed. Research results show that player motivations can be classified into five factors: control, relationship, boasting, de-stress, and interest. The most influential factor that affects flow is interest, and control, relationship, and de-stress are following. In terms of consumer satisfaction, relationship, interest, and control are most positive factors. When it comes to consumer loyalty, relationship, control, and interest are most positive factors. Flow has a strongly positive influence on both consumer satisfaction and loyalty.

  • In this paper, we present a new game interface design for First Person Shooters (FPS). Previously, FPSs on computer are commonly played using keyboard/mouse or joystick along with PC display. We improve the communication environment between player and game world by means of new control system including large screen, laser gun, and directional device, which create a real life-like space for players. Because traditional display for FPS uses CRT, it cannot support large screen display due to limitation of CRT technology. We designed and implemented a new input device using laser recognizable display. We implemented a new FPS based on Quake III that is in accordance with the new devices. Results suggest that the combined interface creates a method which helps beginners to enjoy playing a FPS immediately and gives experienced players a new gaming experience.

  • In the game industry, traditional game development way was to develop a game engine in advance before developing game content. This has the disadvantage is the high cost of developing the game engine. Further, there is a problem that the game content are not developed unless the game engine is prepared in advance. In order to solve these problems, the game industry has recently selected a method of purchasing a license for a commercial engine, which is a method for improving the game content development productivity, rather than concentrating on game engine development. In this paper, we describe a game object and the structure in Unity and Unreal Engine 4. We compared the editor interface and the supported development languages in the two game engines. We also implemented a First-Person Shooter game to compare how the player's configuration and event handling differ from the two game engines.

  • Player's actions in a game occur in the process of gameplay experiences in a play space designed by the developer according to preset gameplay beats. Focusing on beats that induce a first-person shooter (FPS) game's main gameplay, this paper analyzes the differences in eye gaze information found in different players during the course of gameplay. For this research goal, the study divides the beat areas in which play actions appear in association with gameplay beats at a typical FPS game level, repeatedly conducts tests in accordance with a player's experience level (novice and expert group), and collects and analyzes eye gaze information data in three types of beat areas. The analysis result suggests concrete guidelines for game level design for different beat areas based on an FPS game player's experience level. This empirical experiment method and result can lessen repetitive modification work for game level design and consequently be utilized for optimizing the game level to the developer's intention.
