  • A number of surface mount technology (SMT) process variables including land design are considered for minimizing tombstone defect in flexible printed circuit assembly in high volume manufacturing. As SMT chip components have been reduced over the past years with their weights in milligrams, the torque that once helped self-centering of chips, gears to tombstone defects. In this paper, we have investigated the correlation of the assembly process variables with respect to the tombstone defect by employing statistically designed experiment. After the statistical analysis is performed, we have setup hypotheses for the root causes of tombstone defect and derived main effects and interactions of the process parameters affecting the hypothesis. Based on the designed experiments, statistical analysis was performed to investigate significant process variable for the purpose of process control in flexible printed circuit manufacturing area. Finally, we provide beneficial suggestions for find-pitch PCB design, screen printing process, chip-mounting process, and reflow process to minimize the tombstone defects.

  • It was attempted to synthesize polyimides from PPMDA and 3FPPMDA with mDAPPO/pPDA in order to afford CTE of 17ppm and adhesion property of 80g/mm, besides high Tg (>$300^{\circ}C$), good thermal stability (>$500^{\circ}C$), low water absorption and good solubility. The polyimides were prepared via a conventional two-step process; preparation of poly(amic-acid), followed by solution imidization by refluxing in NMP with o-DCB and the molar ratio of mDAPPO/pPDA was varied. The polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, DSC and TGA. In addition, intrinsic viscosity, solubility and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) were also measured.

  • No foods are available commercially for weanling infants except a limited amount of expensive milk products in Korea. Although the majority of infants are breast-fed, when it is not possible, rice products must usually be substituted which is not sufficient in protein. Therefore, it is urgent to develop low-cost quality protein food mixtures. In order to accomplish this purpose three food mixtures (F-S-2, F-F-3 and F-P-4), consisting of rice (37∼46%), soybean (24∼40%), FPC (3∼7%), vitamins, minerals and other food additives, are developed. The food mixtures are white to light yellow in color; dispersed readily in water with water absorption index 320; viable bacterial population, less than $10^4$ per gram; sedimentation value, 63; Bostwick consistency value, 15cm/30%; and ring test value, 23cm/30%. The products contain 22∼25% protein and ensure reasonably balanced essential amino acids for the requirement of infants compared with FAO provisional pattern, Rao's maximum growth requirements and Holt's amino acid requirements in early life. Although threonine is limiting, protein score of F-P-4 formula is 93 based on the modified FAO provisional pattern (1965). Furthermore, a 100g of the products supplies required amounts of vitamins and minerals by the recommended daily dietary allowances for infants.

  • Fish protein was acylated with acetic anhydride(AA), succinic anhydride(SA) and maleic anhydride(MA) in order to improve the functional properties of the protein. The surface hydrophobicity and functional properties of protein were measured to study the relationship between them. It was found that the extented acylation of nucleophilic groups such as amino and sulfhydryl groups of the amino acid residues of fish protein was higher than other groups when acylated with AA, and the degree of acylation was 89.5 % for amino groups and 72.2 % for sulfhydryl groups. The surface hydrophobicity of fish protein was decreased by succinylation and maleylation, whereas acetylation caused tittle change. The acylated fish protein concentrate(FPC) showed higher surface hydrophobicity than the acylated fish myofibrilla protein(FMP). Acylation with AA, SA and MA of fish protein resulted in a significant increase in protein solubility, emulsifier properties, foaming properties, water adsorption capacity and oil adsorption capacity. These properties of acylated FMP were more improved than those of acylated FPC. Decrease in protein hydrophobicity was highly correlated with increase in protein solubility, and emulsifier properties and foaming properties were largely dependent on the solubility as well as surface hydrophobicity. The water adsorption capacity of the protein was significantly affected by solubility. Surface hydrophobicity had greater influence on oil adsorption capacity, whereas it had tittle effect on water adsorption capacity.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the origin of the dolomite in the Pungchon Formation of the Choseon Supergroup near Taebaeg City, Kangwondo, Korea. The Pungchon Formation is composed of limestone, dolomitic limestone, and dolomite with thin beds of flat pebble conglomerate (FPC) and mudrock. Texturally, the dolomite in the Pungchon Formation can be divided into four types; 1) coarse-sized, xenotopic dolomite in massive dolomite, 2) medium-siEed, idiotopic dolomite in flat pebble conglomerate, 3) xenotopic dolomite replacing ooids, algalnodules, and echinoderms, and 4) the dolomite in mottled fabric. The dolomite in mottled fabric can be subdivided into three types; a) coarse-sized, xenotopic saddle dolomite cement, b) medium-sized, idiotopic, cloudy-centered, clear-rimmed (CCCR) dolomite, and c) coarse-sized, idiotopic dolomite. The carbon isotopic composition of the Pungchon dolomite is in the range of $-2.8-1.4\%_{\circ}(PBD)$, suggesting that the carbon isotopic composition was buffered by the preexisting marine carbonates. Lighter oxygen isotopic values ($\delta^{18}O-15.7-8.7\%_{\circ}, PBD$) indicate that the Pungchon dolomite may have formed under high temperature in a burial diagenetic environment. The higher initial $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ ratio of the Pungchon dolomite (0.7010-0.7161) than that of the coeval Cambrian seawater (0.7088-0.7092) indicates that dolomitizing fluids had been modified from the isotopic exchange with continental crust. Low Sr and Na contents(<200 ppm) of dolomite agree well with previously reported data for burial dolomite. Hifh Fe and Mn contents of the dolomite support the idea that the Pungchon dolomite may have formed in a deep burial diagenetic environment.

  • In this study, a nonlinear dynamic analysis of a frame and single member, which reflect the characteristics of a plant facility, is performed using the commercial MIDAS GEN program and the results are analyzed. The general structural members and material properties of the plant are considered. The Newmark average-acceleration numerical-analysis method is applied to a plastic hinge to study material nonlinearity. The blast load of a vapor-cloud explosion, a representative plant explosion, is calculated, and nonlinear dynamic analysis is conducted on a frame and single member. The observed dynamic behavior is organized according to the ratio of natural period to load duration, maximum displacement, ductility, and rotation angle. The conditions and range under which the frame functions as a single member are analyzed and derived. NSFF with a beam-column stiffness ratio of 0.5 and ductility of 2.0 or more can be simplified and analyzed as FFC, whereas NSPF with a beam-column stiffness ratio of 0.5 and ductility of 1.5 or more can be simplified and analyzed as FPC. The results of this study can serve as guidelines for the blast-resistant design of plant facilities.

  • Micro-structure components applied to various disciplines are steadily demanded with lighter weight and better quality. This is because that ultra thin-wall injection molding has been paid attention with a lot of benefits such as cost reduction, shorter process period, and so forth. However, this technology is complicate and difficult to obtain high quality of products compared with conventional injection molding due to warpage caused by uneven shrinkage and molecular orientation. Since warpage of products directly affects product quality and overall performance of devices, it is essential to predict deformation behavior to achieve high precision of molded products. Therefore, this study aims to find out adequate thin-wall mold design for FPC connector housing by employing Moldflow simulation before application. In addition, experimental research is performed by using a fabricated mold structure based on simulated results to prove accuracy and reliability of the suggested simulation for warpage analysis.

  • The recent issue of optical pickup actuators is to apply optical storage devices to mobile devices such as a cellular phone and PDA. It requires actuators to become smaller than conventional types. As the size becomes smaller, the magnetic force is reduced and the assembly of optical pickup actuators becomes more difficult. In addition, its dynamic characteristics are changed. In this paper, methods to improve magnetic forces and dynamic characteristics are suggested and the optimal result of the plate spring design is obtained. A diamond shape magnet and the fine pattern coil (FPC) are used to improve magnetic forces and damping elements are attached to decrease the peak magnitude of the mode instead of using structural damping, mostly for the purpose of improving the accuracy of the finite element simulation. To get more stable dynamic characteristics than conventional ones, a plate spring is applied to the optical pickup actuator and it is optimized with topology and parameter optimization to obtain the concept and the detail design, respectively.

  • In this paper, a new marchand balun using broadside-coupled coplanar waveguide(CPW) on flexible printed circuit (FPC) is proposed. The proposed balun is designed based on the coupled line theory. The fabricated balun shows compact size and improved performance compared to the conventional microstrip line marchand balun. Measured amplitude and phase imbalance between the two balanced output ports are within 0.2 dB and $1^{\circ}$ respectively in a wide frequency range($1.63{\sim}3.44$ GHz). The proposed balun is expected to be used between various antennas and RF front-ends as a functional interconnection.
