The Influence of Forest Experience on Alcoholics' Depression Levels

  • Restorative effect of forest settings is an emerging issue in the field of forestry. It is also the central question facing those currently engaged in the psychotherapeutic interventions is which treatments work. This study was performed to investigate the efficacy of forest experience on alcoholics' depression. Among 531 participants in forest healing camps, 47 alcoholics who participated all three sessions of the camps were selected for this study. Using pre-test and post-test group design with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), mean changes in alcoholics' depression by completion of the camp was measured. The result of this study indicated that the 3-session of forest camp played significant role in reducing participants depression levels (i.e., positive changes in depression scores).

Random Forest Model for Silicon-to-SPICE Gap and FinFET Design Attribute Identification

  • We propose a novel application of random forest, a machine learning-based general classification algorithm, to analyze the influence of design attributes on the silicon-to-SPICE (S2S) gap. To improve modeling accuracy, we introduce magnification of learning data as well as randomization for the counting of design attributes to be used for each tree in the forest. From the automatically generated decision trees, we can extract the so-called importance and impact indices, which identify the most significant design attributes determining the S2S gap. We apply the proposed method to actual silicon data, and observe that the identified design attributes show a clear trend in the S2S gap. We finally unveil 10nm key fin-shaped field effect transistor (FinFET) structures that result in a large S2S gap using the measurement data from 10nm test vehicles specialized for model-hardware correlation.

  • The making of mountains and waters are recognized as essential to traditional Chinese landscapes and it is this concept that guided the Beijing Olympic Landscape, "Axis to Nature". The Olympic landscape extends the central axis of Beijing north until it is punctuated by the Forest Park Hill and dissipated by Forest Park Lake. Traditional landscape gardens, paintings, and poetry were researched and the plan assessed by eminent scholars and experts to conceive and construct an ecological park that features unique design and traditional Chinese landscape art.

표본점 설계방법과 적용 단목재적식 변경에 따른 임목축적 차이의 구명 (Analysis of Difference in Growing Stock Volume Estimates by the Changes of Cluster Plot Design and Volume Equation)

  • 본 연구는 2006년부터 시작된 국가산림자원조사부터 표본점 설계방법과 적용 단목재적식을 변경하여 적용함으로써 과거와는 다른 임목축적 추정치의 경향을 보이고 있어 그 원인을 구명하기 위해 수행하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 20개 집락의 80개 표본점을 대상으로 제4차 및 제5차 국가산림자원조사의 표본점 설계방법에 따라 자료를 수집한 후, 현재 사용하고 있는 수종별 단목재적식과 과거에 사용하였던 단목재적식을 적용하여 임목축적을 추정한 후 표본점 설계 방법 및 적용 단목재적식의 변경에 따른 임목축적 추정치의 차이가 있는지를 평가하였다. 임목축적 차이의 원인을 구명하기 위해 t-검정을 실시한 결과 표본점 설계방법의 변경에 따른 임목축적의 차이는 인정되지 않았으며, 사용된 단목재적식의 변경에 의해서 통계적으로 인정할 수 있는 임목축적의 차이가 발생하는 것으로 분석되었다. 결과적으로 제5차 국가산림자원조사를 통해 얻어지는 임목축적은 적용 단목재적식의 변경에 의해 차이가 발생하기 때문에, 국제기구에 보고하기 위해서는 재계산을 통해 2006년 이전의 임목축적 추정치의 보정이 필요할 것으로 평가되었다.

A Comparison of Systematic Sampling Designs for Forest Inventory

  • This study was conducted to support for determining an efficient sampling design for forest resources assessments in South Korea with respect to statistical efficiency. For this objective, different systematic sampling designs were simulated and compared based on an artificial forest population that had been built from field sample data and satellite data in Yang-Pyeong County, Korea. Using the k-NN technique, two thematic maps (growing stock and forest cover type per pixel unit) across the test area were generated; field data (n=191) and Landsat ETM+ were used as source data. Four sampling designs (systematic sampling, systematic sampling for post-stratification, systematic cluster sampling, and stratified systematic sampling) were employed as optimum sampling design candidates. In order to compute error variance, the Monte Carlo simulation was used (k=1,000). Then, sampling error and relative efficiency were compared. When the objective of an inventory was to obtain estimations for the entire population, systematic cluster sampling was superior to the other sampling designs. If its objective is to obtain estimations for each sub-population, post-stratification gave a better estimation. In order to successfully perform this procedure, it requires clear definitions of strata of interest per field observation unit for efficient stratification.

  • 일본에서 2004년도에 발행된 산림토목 목제구조물 시공 매뉴얼에 실려 있는 산림토목 목제구조물 설계지침은 총설, 목재의 이용과 특성, 조사, 계획 및 설계 등으로 구성되어 있으며, 이 논문에서는 총설, 목재의 이용과 특성, 조사 및 계획에 대하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 목재의 특성은 목재의 물리 화학적 특성, 환경에의 영향, 심리 생리적인 효과 및 목재의 부후성에 대해 정리되어 있으며, 조사항목은 유수에 의한 영향의 정도, 일사의 정도, 흰개미의 생식 유무, 지표수 및 지하수의 유하 상황, 계류 등에 서식하는 동식물의 상황, 물이용 상황 등이 제시되었다. 또한 계획에서는 목제구조물의 구조와 설치장소, 취급방법, 해당 지역의 목재 간벌재의 이용, 방부처리 등에 대하여 설명되어 있다.

Feasibility Study of Forestry Project in Sarawak State, Malaysia

  • This research paper investigates available options for implementing clean development mechanism (CDM) project in Sarawak state, Malaysia. To investigate economic feasibility, data was collected using survey and field research methods. Also, economic analysis was estimated using net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR) and payback period (PBP) during the 30 years CDM: afforestation and reforestation periods. The result of economic analysis indicated that, the payback period was estimated at 9 years with 18 percent of internal rate of return (IRR). This study also highlighted that CDM biomass supply project have a lot of challenges due to the reduction and exclusion of bio-Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), supply and demand scenario, and impact of restriction of illegal logging in Malaysia. This study results demonstrate the methodology and guideline for future CDM investment and projects.

최적임도배치계획(最適林道配置計劃)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Studies on Planning Method of Optimum Forest Road)

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 강원대학교(江原大學校) 임과대학부속(林科大學附屬) 연습림(演習林)의 제(第)2임반(林班)을 대상으로 수치지형도(數値地形圖)를 이용, 임도개설목적(林道開設目的)에 따른 4개의 평가인자(評價因子), 즉 최단임도개설장(最短林道開設長), 평균집재거리(平均集材距離), 개발지수(開發指數) 및 집재불능지점수(集材不能地點數)의 비율(比率) 등을 설정하여 각각의 평가인자(評價因子)에 적합한 최적임도노선(最適林道路線)의 배치계획(配置計劃)에 대하여 검토하였다. 그 결과(結果)를 요약(要約)하면 다음과 같다. 1. 최단임도개설장(最短林道開設長)에 의한 노선배치(路線配置)는 총연장(總延長) 6035.6m, 임도밀도(林道密度) 12.73m/ha, 평균집재거리(平均集材距離) 279.9m, 개발지수(開發指數) 1.43, 집재불능지점수(集材不能地點數)의 비율(比率)15.7% 이다. 2. 평균집재거리(平均集材距離)에 의한 노선배치(路線配置)는 총연장(總延長) 7828.501, 임도밀도(林道密度) 16.52m/ha, 평균집재거리(平均集材距離) 198.4m, 개발지수(開發指數) 1.31, 집재불능지점수(集材不能地點數)의 비율(比率) 4.0%이다. 3. 개발지수(開發指數)에 의한 임도노선배치(林道路線配置)는 총연장(總延長) 7410.6m, 임도밀도(林道密度) 15.64m/ha, 평균집재거리(平均集材距離) 210.9m, 개발지수(開發指數) 1.26, 집재불능지점수(集材不能地點數)의 비율(比率) 5.0%이다. 4. 집재불능지점수(集材不能地點數)의 비율(比率)에 의한 임도노선배치(林道路線配置)는 총연장(總延長) 8307.1m, 임도밀도(林道密度) 17.53m/ha, 평균집재거리(平均集材距離) 184.9m, 개발지수(開發指數) 1.29, 집재불능지점수(集材不能地點數)의 비율(比率) 2.5%이다.

황장목(黃腸木)의 해부학적 특성 (Anatomical Characteristics of Yellow-Hearted Pine (Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki))

  • Macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of Yellow-hearted pine and Red pine were investigated. Wood color, annual ring width and latewood percentage were observed by the naked eye. Anatomical properties as the structure of three sections and cell dimensions were examined by an optical microscopy. As a result, the color of bark in Yellow-hearted pine was Reddish-grey, and Red pine showed brown or gray. The color of heartwood and sapwood in Yellow-hearted pine was deep-yellow to brown and creamy-white. And the color of heartwood and sapwood in Red pine was light-brown and light-yellow. The annual ring width of Yellow-hearted pine was narrower than that of Red pine, and the latewood percentage of Yellow-hearted pine was a little higher than that of Red pine. There was no significant difference in the anatomical characteristics between Yellow-hearted pine and Red pine.

산림탄소상쇄 사업계획서를 이용한 산림탄소 배출권 분석 (Analysis of Forestry Carbon Offset Credits Using Project Design Documents)

  • Since 2013, the forest carbon offest scheme is operated by 'ACT ON THE MANAGEMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF CARBON SINK'. Most of projects account for afforestation, reforestation and restoration. This study analyzed what is affected to pricing factors for the registered 71 project of forest carbon offset in Korea Forest Service. The purpose of this study is to introduce information on the business plans of forest carbon offset scheme and aid to understand the process from registration to issuing offset credits. Also it is meaningful to proposing a policy for price competitiveness and how to enable forest carbon offset schemes to produce activation by measuring the factors that affect the forest carbon offset scheme. The results showed forest carbon credit price is 92,827 won per ton on average, it could see less price-competitive than emission rights market when compared with the price.
