Pedobarographic Analysis in Functional Foot Orthosis (기능성 족부 보조기 착용에 따른 족저압 변화)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate pressure distribution on the foot with the use of custom made foot orthosis and evaluate influential factors in young people using custom orthosis. Materials and Methods: 22 individuals comprised of young males and females were evaluated by radiograph, pedobarograph, and satisfaction rate and VAS score. The data was analyzed statistically to find influential factors for satisfaction after wearing the foot orthosis. Results: Around 50% of participants were satisfied in wearing the custom made foot orthosis. Initial VAS score of satisfaction of $36.2{\pm}19.7$ improved to $73.1{\pm}15.6$ after application of foot orthosis. There was a statistically significant difference. Talo-second metatarsal angle on AP radiograph after orthosis application was significantly related to satisfaction. On analysis of pedobarograph data, total contact area was increased and weight distribution was transferred medially on ambulation with the orthosis applied. Conclusion: Before designing the foot orthosis, individual foot factors such as foot anatomy and foot pressure distribution should be evaluated for foot comfort and better patient satisfaction.

The Effects of Foot Placement and Lifting on Lower Extremity Muscle Activity and Foot Pressure During Sit to Stand in Hemiparetic Patients (뇌졸중 환자의 물건 들고 일어서기 동작이 하지근 활동도 및 족저압에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of foot position and lifting an object on muscle activity and foot pressure during sit to stand(STS) in hemiparetic patients. Methods: Fourteen patients participated in this study. Surface electromyography was used to collect muscle activity and foot pressure measurement system was used to analyze foot pressure in hemiparetic side. Three different foot position was assumed(anterior, neutral, posterior) in hemiparetic side. The repeated two-way analysis of variance and multiple comparisons were conducted to determine statistical significance with a significance level of 0.05. Results: The results were as follows. 1) Lower extremity muscle activity was significantly higher(p<0.05) in biceps femoris and tibialis anterior muscle during STS without holding an object. With changing positions of the affected foot, muscle activity was significantly increased (p<0.05) in vastus medialis and lateral gastrocnemius when the foot was positioned in posterior. 2) There was no significant difference(p>0.05) in foot pressure during STS with object holding and foot positioning. Conclusion: Muscle activity showed a significant increase when the foot was positioned in posterior in comparison to the muscle activity when the foot was in neutral or anterior position.

  • I have come to next conclusions in consequence of documentary study about medical books of many generations regarding Medical treatment with Acupuncture Point of Flank pain. The urinary bladder channel of foot-taiyang is most used. Next there are the ren channel, the gall baldder channel of foot-shaoyang, the liver channel of foot-jueyin, the triple-warmer channel of hand-shaoyang, the kidney channel of foot-shaoyin, the stomach channel of foot-yangming, the spleen channel of foot-taiyin, the pericardium channel of hand-jueyin, the lung channel of hand-taiyin, the small intestine channel of hand-taiyang, the large intestine channel of hand-yangming, the heart channel of hand-shaoyin in the order of frequency in used channel among the twelve channels. The liver channel of foot-jueyin is most used. The gall baldder channel of foot-shaoyang, the urinary bladder channel of foot-taiyang, the triple-warmer channel of hand-shaoyang, the spleen channel of foot-taiyin, the stomach channel of foot-yangming, the ren channel, the small intestine channel of hand-taiyang, the kidney channel of foot-shaoyin, the pericardium channel of hand-jueyin, the large intestine channel of hand-yangming, the lung channel of hand-taiyin, the heart channel of hand-shaoyin in the order of frequency in used point among the twelve channels.

Survey of Shoes Wearing Reality and Old Males Foot Types

  • This research to reveal the foot types of old males consisted of two parts. First, a questionnaire was given for 180 old men in their 60s and above who live in Busan. Second, based on this survey on the reality of shoes wearing, direct and indirect measurement were held for 200 old gentlemen. The findings are as follows: 1. Survey Results of Shoes Wearing Reality In the investigation into the reality of shoes possession and wearing, most of old males favored active casual shoes with comfortable materials (40.8%). Hardened skin (23.6%) was the greatest in foot deformation and side effects resulting from shoes wearing, while the big toe (20.1%) was most uncomfortable. The greatest requirement for comfortable shoes was shoes making feet comfortable with a good sense of wear (41.0%), followed by shoes with the soft sole to absorb shock (31.7%), shoes with diverse sizes according to shoes width (13.7%), and shoes made of soft materials in consideration of various foot shapes. 2. Results of Foot Measurement Experiments Busan's males in their 60s and above were 166.31cm (Height), 63.51kg (weight), 23.94cm (foot length), 9.75cm (foot width), and 24.26cm (instep girth). The big toe angle of old males was $11.22^{\circ}$ and the little toe angle $14.70^{\circ}$. Four foot types were classified: 1 (long big foot), 2 (small inside-developed foot), 3 (toe-tip-gathered foot), and 4 (thin flat foot).

We used three types of club(driver, iron7, pitching wedge). This analysis method can compare between top class golfer and beginner. And the comparison data can be used to correct the swing pose of trainee. If motion analysis system, which can measure the swing speed and instantaneous acceleration at the point of hitting a ball, is combined with this plantar foot force analysis method, new design development of golf shoes to increase comfort and ball flight distance will be available. 1. The Effect of Morton's Foot on Static Balance Ability (몰톤발이 정적 균형 능력에 미치는 영향)

  • PURPOSE: According to advanced research, the effect of foot type on balance is 3 type. There are squared foot, morton's foot and Egyptian foot. Above all, Morton's foot accounts for 22% of people. The purpose of this study is to find the effect of Morton's Foot on Balance Ability. METHODS: Twenty healthy woman participate in this study(Mean age:23.93; Mean height: 163.35; Mean weight: 56.20). They doesn't have musculoskeletal or neurogical disorder. Ten of participants have morton's foot group, and another ten person are normal foot group. Measurment of balance was used by Balance trainer(BT4) and balance pad(AIREX). Data analyzed in 3 way ANOVA. RESULTS: In foot type and support type of variables, Morton's foot was significant differences in C90 area and Velocity. There was no significant difference between foot type and visual condition. In support type and visual condition of variables, unstable support significantly decreased in Tracelength, C90area and Velocity. If we find out correlationship of foot type, visual condition and support condition, There didn't have relationship each other. CONCLUSION: This study found that correlationship of foot type, visual condition and support condition. But, there are no significant differences. Nevertheless, These results will also be able to offer baseline data about Morton's foot study in future.

The Comparison of Clinical Assessment Tools for the Foot Posture

  • It is important to assess foot posture when investigating the relationship between lower extremity dysfunctions and foot types. Although several measurements of static foot posture have been used, there is no consensus regarding clinical measurements for foot posture. The aim of this study is to explore the differences among navicular drift (NDt), foot posture index (FPI), arch index (AI), dorsal arch height ratio (DAHR), normal navicular height truncated (NNHt) and to discover the most effective measurement. After foot types were classified by navicular drop test (NDp), clinical measurements of NDt, FPI, AI, DAHR, and NNHt were performed on 64 subjects' feet. ANOVA analysis was used for the variance of the difference between the NDp and the five kinds of clinical measurements, and the level of significance was set at ${\alpha}$=.05. The results showed that all five clinical measurements demonstrated significant differences with navicular drop. In post-hoc, FPI and NNHt showed significant differences in all foot types. The five clinical measurements are suitable the classification of foot types through the NDp. Therefore, it could be possible to assess correct and objective foot posture by using FPI and NNHt.

  • Purpose: To compare clinical characteristics of ganglions in hand & Foot. Materials and Methods: Seventeen cases of ganglions located in foot and fifty-five cases in hand. Excised from Mar.1988 to Apr.2003, were included in the study. The clinical characteristics and recurrence ratio were evaluated Results: The mean size of 2.2 cm in hand and 2.5 cm in foot. The most common area of ganglions are dorsum of foot and wrist. The cosmetic problem of palpable mass is the primary chief complaint of ganglions on hand and the pain is that of foot. The recurrence was found in 5 cases in hand and 4 cases in foot. The recurrence was related to incomplete excision of ganglion in foot and the large size of ganglion and incomplete excision of ganglion in hand. Conclusion: recurrence ratio in the cases of foot is higher than that of hand. The ganglions in foot and hand need to treated by meticulous surgical excision to prevent the recurrence.

A Comparison of Cardio-Pulmanary Function by the use of a Single Axis Foot and SACH Foot in Below-Knee Amputation (하퇴 절단 환자의 족부 종류에 따른 심폐 기능의 비교)

  • This study was to measure whether single axis foot or the SACH foot applied to below-knee amputation patients would bring positive changes to the patients' cardiopulmonary function, and help them to overcome their disability. The experiment took place at Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan, from July 20th to November 20th, 1999 with 10 below-knee amputation patients. The patients were asked to equip single axis foot and SACH foot by turns and lead them to walk on a treadmill which was designed to increase its steep slope. Patients heart rate and blood pressure were recorded before and after their walking, The heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure of the patients who were equipped with, either SACH foot or single axis foot, have been increased with as the slant becoming steeper. The heart rates during the experiment did not show relevant changes according to the kind of foot used and the gradient, but the changes occurred before and after the walking(p=0.0001), The similar result of systolic blood pressure was found during the waking(p=0.01). Below-knee amputation patients are expected to walk and perform the routines better, no matter what type of foot is used, as long as they wear an artificial foot properly and taking features of foot product into consideration

A Study on the Related Factors and the Change after Foot-reflexo-massage Education Program for Diabetic Patients (당뇨병 환자의 발반사요법 교육프로그램 후 발관리지식, 자가간호행위, 생리적지표의 변화 및 관련요인분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the change in foot care knowledge, self care behavior, and physiologic indexes after foot reflexomassage education program, and the related factors. Method: Data were collected from 20 patients who were visited out patients clinic. The change and difference were analyzed with non-parametric statistics. Result: There were significant differences in foot care knowledge(P=.001), self care behavior(P=.000), dosalis pedis blood flow volume (P=.011), skin temperature of foot(P=.001), dorsalis pedis pulse(P=.000), capillary filling time of foot (P=.000) between pre and post. The level of changes of foot care knowledge was significant differences according to admission experience (P=.049), and negative related to systolic blood pressure(P=.028). The level of changes of self care behavior was related to age(P=.049), that of dosalis pedis blood flow was significant difference according to smoking(P=.042), that of skin temperatureof foot(P=.002) and dosalis pedis pulse(P=.038) were significant difference according to weight. The level of changes of capillary filling time of foot was related to diagnosis period(P=.014). Conclusion: Foot-Reflexo-Massage education program is an effective nursing intervention to promote foot care in diabetic patients. And the related factors can be recommended for the management of diabetic patients.
