  • Large quantities of by-products—such as fish frame, head, skin and viscera—are generated during seafood processing, and these by-products are not utilized extensively. Therefore, sea rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (SRT) frame muscle (FM) jerky was prepared by grinding SRT-FM, followed by mixing with seasoning, forming and drying. The nutritional and microbiological characteristics of the SRT-FM jerky were then investigated. The proximate composition of the SRT-FM jerky was 19.1% moisture, 38.7% crude protein, 7.9% crude lipid and 4.4% ash. The viable bacterium count of the SRT-FM jerky was 3.9 log CFU/g, and Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were not detected. The total amino acid content of SRT-FM jerky was 37.3 g/100 g, and the major amino acids were aspartic acid, glutamic acid, leucine and lysine. Based on the recommended daily intake of fish jerky (100 g), the most abundant mineral was potassium. The fatty acid composition of the SRT-FM jerky was 26.2% saturated acid, 34.5% monoenoic acid and 39.3% polyenoic acid, and the major fatty acids were 16:0, 18:1n-9, 18:2n-6, 20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3. These results suggest that SRT-FM jerky has high nutritional value.

  • A fast-sweep broadband FM reflectometer system has been successfully developed and operacted at the DIII-D tokamak, producing reliable density Profiles with excellent spatial (1 $\leq$ cm) and temporal resolution (~100 $\mu$ s). The system uses a solid-state microwave oscillator and an active quadrupler, covering full Q-band frequencies (33~50 GHz) and providing relatively high output power (20~60 mW). The system hardware allows fu11band frequency sweep in 10 $\mu$ s, but due to digitization rate limit on DIII-D, sweep time was limited to 75~100 $\mu$ s. Fast frequency sweep has helped to reduce density fluctuation effects on the reflectometer phase measurements, thus improving reliability for individual sweeps. The fast-sweep system with high spatial and temporal resolution has allowed to measure fast-changing edge density profiles during plasma ELMS and L-H transitions, thus enabling fast-time sca1e physics studies.

  • This study was designed to offer descriptive data for nursing intervention for relief of fatigue and pain, and to distinguish by the characteristic difference and the symptoms such as fatigue and pain on Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), Fibromyalgia(FM), and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus(SLE) patients. The sample consisted of 92 patients(AS 29; FM 30; SLE 33) who visited H-University Rheumatism Hospital in Seoul. The data were collected by a structured questionnaire from May 1, 1999 to April 30, 2000. The results were as follows: Patients of 95% experienced fatigue in the last week and a fatigue score of three disease groups were above average. The fatigue score of FM patients was highest in the other disease, but which was not a statistically significant difference(F=1.417, p=.248). The mean score of AS and FM patients in pain was higher than the SLE patients, and there was the statistical significance among the three groups on pain (F=8.239, p=.001). There wasn't a statistical difference among three groups on coping wtih pain(F=1.451, p=.240). There wasn't any correlation between fatigue and pain in each disease (AS: r=.008, p=.966; FM: r=.328, p=.077; SLE: r=.237,p=.185). Therefore, morning stiffness and pain management during sleeping is needed through good body alignment in the AS patients. Adequate rest for fatigue and multiple coping strategies for pain maybe basic nursing intervention in FM and SLE. According to their fatigue rhythm, a regular exercise program is needed for rheumatic disease because they complained of fatigue above average and their fatigue was repeated better and worse only during the one week.

  • A new nethod, namely multi-gain-levering, is proposed to improve FM response of the single frequency semiconductor lasers and applied to 1.55$\mu\textrm{m}$ InGaAsP/InP MGL(multi-gain-levered)-MQW-DFB-LD. This device consists of three sections with different bandgap energy and can be easily realized by selective MOVPE growth. Our analysis based on Green function showed that a flat, red-shifted, high FM efficiency of aove 15GHz/mA can be extected by novel gain-levering scheme.

  • To investigate the chilling sensitivity related injuries in the photosynthetic apparatus of cucumber leaves, the light-chilling induced alterations of chlorophyll fluorescence transients in cucumber leaves were compared with those in pea leaves. As an early effect of light-chilling, an increase in Fp/Fm$^*$ was observed in both pea and cucumber leaves, which was saturated by about 6 h chilling. However, the saturated value of Fp/Fm was almost 1.0 in cucumber, in contrast to about 0.8 in pea. During the recovery period after 24 h chilling, the light-chilling induced changes in pea seemed to be reversed, but those in cucumber leaves were thought to be irreversible, because Fo was increased significantly. Light-chilling caused significant decreases in qQ and qE in cucumber leaves, but qR was increased until 6 h, and decreased thereafter. In both pea and cucumber leaves, Fm was increased by 2 h dark treatment. The Fm from the predarkened pea leaf discs was higher than the value from the preilluminated ones during the whole period of light-chilling (500 $\mu$mol m$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ PAR). However, the predarkened cucumber leaf discs showed a reduction in Fm and an increase in Fo during the 2 h chilling in the light. These results indicate that the causes of chilling sensitivities in photosynthetic apparatus of cucumber leaves are possibly related with the damage in PSI reaction center and the ability of acidification of lumen by PSII.

  • A frequency modulated ultra-wideband (FM-UWB) transmitter with a high-robust relaxation oscillator for subcarrier generation and a dual-path Ring VCO for RF FM is proposed, featuring low power and low complexity. A prototype 3.65-4.25 GHz FM-UWB transceiver employing the presented transmitter is fabricated in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS for short-range wireless data transmission. Experimental results show a bit error rate (BER) of $10^{-6}$ at a data rate of 12.5 kb/s with a communication distance of 60 cm is achieved and the power dissipation of 4.3 mW for the proposed transmitter is observed from a 1.8 V supply.

  • In this paper, presented is the result of a digital implementation of a FM stereo composite signal generator. The chip utilizing DDFS(Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer architecture is implemented using $1.0\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS gate-array technology thereby replacing analog componentry. To verify the process of generating composite signals a conventional logic simulation method was used. The processed chip was mounted on an evaluation PCB to test and analyze to signals. According to the measurement result obtained by using a 12-bit DAC, the digital FM composite signal generator produces a 74DB spectrally pure signal over its entire tuning range, which is superior to that of analog counterpart by 14dB in it spectral reponse. And further enhancements of the spectral response is expected to be achieved by using a high resolution digital to analog converter, such as a 16-bit DAC. The resulting signals is superior to the signal of the analoy circuitry typically used, in major characteristics such as S/N ratios, accuracy, tuning stability, and signal seperation.

  • Orally administered herbal glycosides are metabolized to their hydrophobic compounds by intestinal microflora in the intestine of animals and human, not liver enzymes, and absorbed from the intestine to the blood. Of these metabolites, some, such as quercetin and kaempherol, are mutagenic. The fecal bacterial enzyme fraction (fecalase) of human or animals has been used for measuring the mutagenicity of dietary glycosides. However, the fecalase activity between individuals is significantly different and its preparation is laborious and odious. Therefore, we developed a fecal microbial enzyme mix (FM) usable in the Ames test to remediate the fluctuated reaction system activating natural glycosides to mutagens. We selected, cultured, and mixed 4 bacteria highly producing glycosidase activities based on a cell-free extract of feces (fecalase) from 100 healthy Korean volunteers. When the mutagenicities of rutin and methanol extract of the flos of Sophora japonica L. (SFME), of which the major constituent is rutin, towards Salmonella typhimurium strains TA 98, 100, 102, 1,535, and 1,537 were tested using FM and/or S9 mix, these agents were potently mutagenic. These mutagenicities using FM were not significantly different compared with those using Korean fecalase. SFME and rutin were potently mutagenic in the test when these were treated with fecalase or FM in the presence of S9 mix, followed by those treated with S9 mix alone and those with fecalase or FM. Freeze-dried FM was more stable in storage than fecalase. Based on these findings, FM could be usable instead of human fecalase in the Ames test.
