Anticancer Efficacies of Doxorubicin, Verapamil and Quercetin on FM3A Cells under Hyperthermic Temperature

  • Hyperthermia (HT) in combination with anticancer drugs (ACDs) had proven to more efficacious in various cancers, although efficacies vary according to chemotherapeutic compounds and cancer types. Presently there are few data that compares anticancer efficacies among ACDs under hyperthermic conditions. Therefore, we selected three commonly used ACDs (quercetin, verapamil and doxorubicin) and compared their antitumor effects when each was treated with 43$^{\circ}C$ HT exposure. Firstly, FM3A, a murine breast cancer cell line, was treated with each ACD for 1 h followed by 43$^{\circ}C$ exposure for additional 1 h, and examined the effects of: 1) each drug, 2) 43$^{\circ}C$ HT exposure, and 3) the combination of each drug and 43$^{\circ}C$ HT exposure for 1, 6 and 24 h. The determined overall effects on FM3A cells were arrested cell proliferation, clonogenic efficiency and apoptosis. Pre-treatment of FM3A cells to each ACD followed by 43$^{\circ}C$ HT exposure produced greater antitumor effects including suppressed cell proliferation, reduced clonogenic efficiency and increased apoptotic cell death, compared to ACD treatment or HT exposure alone. Apoptotic cell death occurred in a time-dependent manner. Among the ACDs, antitumor efficacies varied in the order of doxorubicin > verapamil > quercetin. It was concluded that heat exposure during ACD treatment of caner cells may be an important factor to get a better antitumor benefit, even though this benefit may differ from one drug to another.

단일모드 헬륨네온레이저를 사용한 초공진기의 주파수 변조 분광연구 (Frequency modulation spectroscopy of a super-cavity using a single mode He-Ne laser)

  • 주파수 변조 분광학을 이용하여 레이저 주파수의 안정화를 위한 초공진기의 주파수 변조 신호를 검출하였다. 단일모드 헬륨네온 레이저와 1.5MHz로 구동하는 전기광학 변조기를 이용하여 150kHz($3 \times 10^{-10}$)의 고분해능을 갖는 초공진기의 주파수 변조 신호를 검출하였다. 또 위상민감검출기에 의한 기준신호의 위상이 각각 $0^{\circ}$(동위상, in-phase)$900^{\circ}$(직각ㅇ위상, quardrature-phase)인 두개의 주파수 변조 신호 성분을 X축 및 Y축으로 하는 위상공간에서 주파수 변조 신호의 벡터궤적을 측정하고 주파수 변조 분광 신호를 해석하였다. 측정한 벡터궤적은 잠김증폭기의 기준 신호의 위상과 같은 각도로 회전함을 알았고 Bjorklund등이 제시한 계수 측정 대신에 이 벡터 궤적을 이용할 경우 쉽게 주파수 변조 신호는 공진기 투과 중심 주파수 근방 $\pm$1.5MHz이내에서 헬륨 네온 레이저 주파수가 존재할 때 이 주파수를 공진기의 투과 곡선의 중심에 안정화할 수 있는 주파수 분별곡선으로 사용할 수 있음을 보였다.

Effects of dietary hatchery by-products on growth performance, relative organ weight, plasma measurements, immune organ index, meat quality, and tibia characteristics of broiler chickens

  • Objective: The objective of the current study was to investigate the effects of dietary hatchery by-products (HBPs) as a replacement of fish meal (FM) on growth performance, relative organ weight, plasma measurements, immune organ index, meat quality, and tibia characteristics of broiler chickens. Methods: A total of 720 broiler chickens (3 d of age) were randomly allotted to 1 of 9 treatments with 8 replicates. Each replicate consisted of 5 male and 5 female birds. The basal diet was formulated to contain 5.0% commercial FM, whereas eight treatment diets were prepared by replacing 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of FM in the basal diet with infertile eggs (IFE) or a mixture of various HBPs (MIX); therefore, the inclusion levels of IFE or MIX in the experimental diets were 1.25%, 2.50%, 3.75%, or 5.00%. The diets and water were provided on an ad libitum basis for 32 d. Results: Increasing inclusion levels of IFE as a replacement of FM in diets had no effects on growth performance, plasma measurements, immune organ index, and tibia characteristics of broiler chickens. Increasing inclusion levels of IFE in diets increased (linear, p<0.05) meat lightness (L*) but decreased (linear, p<0.05) meat redness (a*). The breast meat pH at 1-h postmortem was increased (linear, p<0.05) by increasing inclusion levels of IFE in diets. Likewise, increasing inclusion levels of MIX in diets had no effects on growth performance, relative organ weight, plasma measurements, immune organ index, and tibia characteristics. However, increasing inclusion levels of MIX in diets increased (linear, p<0.05) 1-h postmortem pH but decreased (linear, p<0.05) 24-h postmortem pH of breast meat. Increasing inclusion levels of MIX in diets decreased (linear, p<0.05) thiobarbituric acid reactive substances values of breast meat. Conclusion: Both IFE and MIX are suitable alternatives to FM as protein ingredients in broiler diets.

High-Robust Relaxation Oscillator with Frequency Synthesis Feature for FM-UWB Transmitters

  • A CMOS relaxation oscillator, with high robustness over process, voltage and temperature (PVT) variations, is designed in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS. The proposed oscillator, consisting of full-differential charge-discharge timing circuit and switched-capacitor based voltage-to-current conversion, could be expanded to a simple open-loop frequency synthesizer (FS) with output frequency digitally tuned. Experimental results show that the proposed oscillator conducts subcarrier generation for frequency-modulated ultra-wideband (FM-UWB) transmitters with triangular amplitude distortion less than 1%, and achieves frequency deviation less than 8% under PVT and phase noise of -112 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency. Under oscillation frequency of 10.5 MHz, the presented design has the relative FS error less than 2% for subcarrier generation and the power dissipation of 0.6 mW from a 1.8 V supply.

Influence of Mixing Procedure on Properties of Carbon Black-filled Natural Rubber Compounds

  • Cure characteristics and physical properties of carbon black-filled natural rubber (NR) compounds depending on the mixing procedure were studied using the compounds with different pre-final mixing (FM-1) stages. Carbon master batch (MB) and first and second remitting (1RM and 2RM) stages were employed as the FM-1 stage. Bound rubber content of the FM compound decreased with increasing the mixing steps. This was due to the decrease of the molecular weight distribution of the polymer by the rubber chain scission during the mixing. The Mooney viscosity decreased with increasing the mixing steps. Cure characteristics of the compounds were found to be different with the mixing procedures. The cure times of the compound became slower by increasing the number of the mixing steps. This was explained by the length of rubber chain, the carbon black network, distribution of the curatives in the compound, and immobilization of the polymeric segments. Modulus and tensile strength of the vulcanizate did not show a specific trend with the mixing procedure. Fatigue life of the vulcanizate increased by increasing the mixing stages.

그물망 압착식 섬유여과장치를 이용한 물 재이용 시스템 개발 (Development of Water Reusing System by Using Net3FM (Net Fit Fiber Filter Module))

  • This study was carried out to develop pilot plant Net3FM(Net Fit Fiber Filter Module) system and to suggest optimum operating condition for municipal wastewater reuse. SS concentration of biologically treated sewage effluent was reduced from 1.5~5.4mg/L to 0.4~1.0mg/L without coagulant injection in Net3FM system, and the SS removal efficiency was average 84.7%. And also, the removal efficiencies of COD and T-P were decreased slightly due to the SS removal by filtration. Coagulation-Filtration test was conducted to enhance the removal efficiencies of SS and T-P. The optimum dosage of coagulant was injected automatically by auto-controlling system, which is controlled by detecting value of turbidity of secondary sewage effluent. SS, COD and T-P concentrations in filtrated effluent were 0.21~0.57, 1.6~6.2 and 0.137~0.392mg/L with coagulant injection by in-line mixer in Net3FM system, respectively. The removal efficiencies of SS and T-P were highly increased to 92.8% and 89.8%, respectively. It was due to the combined the processes of coagulation and filtration. Net3FM system was evaluated that the removal efficiency of pollutants in secondary sewage effluent and the utilization potential as reclaimed water technology were very high.

음식물 쓰레기 퇴비화를 위한 미생물 최적 활성 조건 (Studies on the Optimun Activation Condition for Food Waste Composting by Microorganism in Food Waste)

  • 음식물 쓰레기 자체미생물에 의한 퇴비화 가능성을 검토하기 위해 음식물 쓰레기 자체 미생물의 분포 및 수를 조사한 결과 $30^{\circ}C$에서 세균은 전 시료구에서 $10^5-10^7CFU/g$, $50^{\circ}C$에서 $10^5-10^6\;CFU/g$이 검출되었다. 효소생산 미생물은 $30^{\circ}C$$50^{\circ}C$에서 amylase, protease 생산균주는 계절에 관계없이 $10^3-10^7\;CFU/g$로 검출되었다. 한편 30일간의 퇴비화 실험결과 $50^{\circ}C$ 항온에서 음식물 쓰레기만을 이용한 시험구(FW1)는$30^{\circ}C$(FW2) 시험구와 유사하였으나 온도구배 적용구(FW3) 그리고 미생물 부숙제첨가구(FM1, FM2)에 비해 가장 많은 $CO_2$ gas 발생율을 보였고 유기물 분해율, 조단백함량 변화에 있어서 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 퇴비화 과정중 미생물과 효소생산 균주의 변화를 조사한 결과 FW1의 경우 $30^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$의 전배양 온도에서 $10^5-10^9\;CFU/ml$의 세균과 Amylase 및 Protease 생산균주가 검출되어 미생물 부숙제를 첨가한 시험구에 비해 우수하였다. 이상의 결과로 음식물 쓰레기 자체 총균수 및 효소 생산균주 그리고 퇴비과정중의 성분 변화를 고려할 때 $50^{\circ}C$의 부숙온도가 가장 효율적이며 음식물 쓰레기 퇴비화에 별도의 미생물 부숙제 사용은 불필요한 것으로 추측된다.

차량용 통합 능동형 안테나의 설계 및 제작 (Design and Implementation of An Active Antenna for Vehicle)

  • 본 논문은 기생면을 이용한 마이크로 스트립안테나 형태로 소형화 된 방사체와 증폭단를 결합하여 AM/FM 대역, DMB 대역 및 GPS 대역을 수신할 수 있는 차량용 통합 안테나를 설계 및 제작 하였다. 제작한 능동형 안테나는 AM/FM 대역에서 기존의 평면형 안테나에 비해 15% 이상의 크기 축소 효과를 나타내었다. 또한 상용 헬리컬 안테나와 동등한 수신 성능 특성을 나타내었며 DMB 및 GPS 대역에서도 만족할만한 수신 성능 특성을 나타내었다. 제작된 능동형 안테나의 크기는 $133{\times}31{\times}1.2mm$이고, 단일 입력 단자와 2개의 출력 단자를 갖는다.

Characteristics of Auditory Stereocilia in the Apical Turn of the Echolocating Bats by Scanning Electron Microscopy

  • The auditory system of the Korean greater horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum korai, RFK) is adapted to its own echolocation signal, which consist of constant frequency (CF) element and frequency modulated (FM) element. In contrast, the Japanese long-fingered bat (Miniopterus schreibersii fuliginosus, MSF) emits FM signals. In the present study, the characteristics of stereocilia in RFK (a CF/FM bat) and MSF (a FM bat) were studied in the apical turn of the cochlea where the lower frequencies are transduced. Stereocilia lengths and numbers were quantitatively measured in RFK by scanning electron microscopy and compared with those of MSF. Each inner hair cells (IHCs) of RFK possessed three rows of stereocilia, whereas MSF possessed five rows of stereocilia. Gradients in stereocilia lengths and numbers of stereocilia of the IHCs of RFK were found to be less pronounced and fewer, respectively, than those of MSF. Each outer hair cells (OHCs) possessed three rows of stereocilia in both species. OHCs stereocilia in RFK that distinguished it from MSF were a shorter length and a greater number of stereocilia. These features suggest that the apical cochleas of RFK are adapted for the processing of higher frequency echolocation calls rather than that of MSF.

900MHz 대역의 효율적 이용을 위한 FM 방송 링크 시스템 주파수의 재배치에 대한 기술적 분석 (Technical analysis of frequency reallocation to FM broadcasting link system for effective use in 900 MHz band)

  • 본 논문에서는 FM 방송 링크용 M/W 시스템의 주파수 재배치 시 동등 수준의 전송 품질이 유지되기 위한 기술적 분석 방법론을 제안한다. 실제 각 주파수 대역에서 동작하는 M/W 중계 장치에 대한 수치 계산을 하였으며, 그 결과를 페이드 마진으로 표현된 링크 가용율로 평가하였다. 1700 MHz 대역에서 2.6 dB 이상의 상대적 페이드 마진이 확보가 되면 주파수 재배치 후에도 동일한 품질을 얻을 수 있음을 보였다. 제안된 방법은 M/W 장치의 주파수 재배치에 관한 서비스 품질 평가에 크게 활용될 것으로 여겨진다.
