A sample of nearby galaxies was built from the AKARI/FIS all sky survey cross-correlated with the SDSS and GALEX surveys. The spectral energy distributions from 0.15 to 160 microns of these galaxies are analysed to study dust attenuation and star formation properties. The calibrations of the amount of dust attenuation as a function of the IR-to-UV flux ratio and the FUV-NUV colour are re-investigated: the former one is confirmed to be robust and accurate whereas the use of the FUV-NUV colour to measure dust attenuation is found highly uncertain. The current star formation rate given by the SED fitting process is compared to that directly obtained from the UV and total IR luminosities. It leads to an accurate estimate of dust heating by old stars. We emphasize the importance of such a sample as a reference for IR selected star forming galaxies in the nearby universe.
The aim of this research is to reveal the spatial distribution of the star formation activity of nearby galaxies by comparing CO molecular emission lines with the large area observation in far-infrared (FIR) lines. We report the imaging observations of NGC 253 by FIR forbidden lines via FIS-FTS and CO molecular lines from low to high excitation levels with ASTE, which are good tracers of star forming regions or photo-dissociation regions, especially spiral galaxies, in order to derive the information of the physical conditions of the ambient interstellar radiation fields. The combination of spatially resolved FIR and sub-mm data leads to the star formation efficiency within galaxy. The ratio between the FIR luminosity and molecular gas mass, $L_{FIR}/M_{H_2}$, is expected to be proportional to the number of stars formed in the galaxy per unit molecular gas mass and time. Moreover the FIR line ux shows current star formation activity directly. Furthermore these can be systematic and statistical data for star formation history and evolution of spiral galaxies.

A novel fuzzy learning framework that employs fuzzy inference to solve the problem of Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) is presented. The framework introduces a new class of fuzzy inference systems called Multiple Instance Mamdani Fuzzy Inference Systems (MI-Mamdani). In multiple instance problems, the training data is ambiguously labeled. Instances are grouped into bags, labels of bags are known but not those of individual instances. MIL deals with learning a classifier at the bag level. Over the years, many solutions to this problem have been proposed. However, no MIL formulation employing fuzzy inference exists in the literature. Fuzzy logic is powerful at modeling knowledge uncertainty and measurements imprecision. It is one of the best frameworks to model vagueness. However, in addition to uncertainty and imprecision, there is a third vagueness concept that fuzzy logic does not address quiet well, yet. This vagueness concept is due to the ambiguity that arises when the data have multiple forms of expression, this is the case for multiple instance problems. In this paper, we introduce multiple instance fuzzy logic that enables fuzzy reasoning with bags of instances. Accordingly, a MI-Mamdani that extends the standard Mamdani inference system to compute with multiple instances is introduced. The proposed framework is tested and validated using a synthetic dataset suitable for MIL problems. Additionally, we apply the proposed multiple instance inference to fuse the output of multiple discrimination algorithms for the purpose of landmine detection using Ground Penetrating Radar.
The Average daily PET (Potential evapotranspiration), evaluated based on the last 30 years meteorological data and the lysimeter experiment carried out by RDA during 11 years, of 9 regions in Korea for the tomato cultivated in greenhouse, was $3.41mm\;day^{-1}$. Two kinds of water saving irrigation standard (WSIS), deficit irrigation standard (DIS) and partial root-zone drying irrigation standard (PRDIS) that include the irrigation interval and the amount of irrigation water according to the region, soil texture and growing stage, were established. According to the DIS and PRDIS, the cultivator can save water up to 29.2% and 53.7%, respectively, for tomato cultivation in greenhouse compared to the full irrigation standard (FIS) which established in 1999. WSIS can be used easily by the cultivator without complicate procedures such as soil sampling and measurement of soil water status by expensive sensors. But the cultivator should care about irrigation method such as PRDI (partial root-zone drying irrigation) without yield decrease.

In this work, we report the use of caffeine as an alternative source of nitrogen to successfully dope graphene (quaternary 400.6 eV and pyridinic at 398 eV according XPS), as well as the growth of silver nanowires (in-situ) in the surface of nitrogen doped graphene (NG) sheets. We used the improved graphene oxide method (IGO), chemical reduction of graphene oxide (GOx), and impregnation with caffeine as source of nitrogen for doping and subsequently, silver nanowires (NW) grow in the surface by the reduction of silver salts in the presence of NG, achieving a numerous of growth of NW in the graphene sheets. As supporting experimental evidence, the samples were analyzed using conventional characterization techniques: SEM-EDX, XRD, FT-IR, micro RAMAN, TEM, and XPS.

ASTRO-F /FIS will carry out all sky survey in the wavelength from 50 to 200 ${\mu}m$. At far infrared, stars and galaxies may not be good calibration sources because the IR fluxes could be sensitive to the dust shell of stars and star formation activities of galaxies. On the other hand, asteroids could be good calibration sources at far infrared because of rather simple spectral energy distribution. Recent progresses in thermal models for asteroids enable us to calculate the far infrared flux fairly accurately. We have derived the Bond albedos and diameters for 559 asteroids based on the IRAS and ground based optical data. Using these thermal parameters and standard thermal model, we have calculated the spectral energy distributions of asteroids from 10 to 200 ${\mu}m$. We have found that more than $70\%$ of our sample asteroids have flux errors less than $10\%$ within the context of the best fitting thermal models. In order to assess flux uncertainties due to model parameters, we have computed SEDs by varing external parameters such as emissivity, beaming parameter and phase integral. We have found that about 100 asteroids can be modeled to be better than $5.8\%$ of flux uncertainties. The systematic effects due to uncertainties in phase integral are not so important.
To understand the connection between active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and star formation, we investigated the relation between AGN bolometric and far-infrared (FIR) luminosities, using type-2 AGNs. By matching type-2 AGNs at z < 0.3 selected from the SDSS based on the emission-line diagnostics, against the AKARI/FIS All-Sky Survey Catalogue and the COSMOS PEP (PACS Evolutionary Probe) Survey Catalogue, we obtained a sample of 729 type-2 AGNs detected in the AKARI survey ($90{\mu}m$) and 17 ones detected in the PEP survey ($100{\mu}m$). For AGN bolometric luminosities, we adopted an estimate based on the [OIII] and [OI] line luminosities. We confirmed that there is a correlation between the AGN bolometric and FIR luminosities with a large scatter, which is consistent with previous studies. However, we claim that this correlation suffers from various artificial effects, e.g., FIR detection limits, survey volumes, and so on. We will discuss the limitations of studying the connection between AGN and star formation using currently available facilities.
Levels of genetic diversity, population genetic structure, and gene flow in Hosta yingeri, a herbaceous perennial endemic to Taehuksan, Sohuksan, and Hong Islands, were investigated. Starch gel electrophoresis was conducted on leaves for 101 plants collected from three populations. Although the distribution of thespecies is restricted in the islands, it maintains high levels of genetic variatin; 64% of polymorphic loci in at least one population (Ps), the mean number of alleles per locus (Ap) of 1.92, and the mean effective number of alleles per locus (Aep) of 1.52. Overall, mean genetic diversity (Hep=0.250) was substantially higher than mean estimate for species with very similarlife history traits (0.102). Large populaton size, the persistence of multiple generations within populations, high fecundity, predominantly outcrossing breeding system, large size of pollinator visitation areas may be explanatory factors contributing the higher level of genetic diversity maintained within populations. Analysis of fixation indices showed an overall slight excess of heterozygotes (mean FIS=-0.066) relative to Hardy-Weinberg expectations, which may in part be due to the near self-incompatible breeding system in the species. Significant differences in allele frequencies among populaitns were found for 14 out of 16 polymorphic loci (P<0.05). Slightly more than 80% of the total variation in the species was common to all populations (GST=0.198). As expected, indirect estimate of the number of migrants per generation (Nm=0.45, calculated from mean GST) and nine private alleles found in the three populations indicate that gene movement among three isolated island populations was low.

The giant roundworm Ascaris infects pigs and people worldwide and causes serious diseases. The taxonomic relationship between Ascaris suum and Ascaris lumbricoides is still unclear. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the genetic diversity and population genetic structure of 258 Ascaris specimens from humans and pigs from 6 sympatric regions in Ascaris-endemic regions of China using existing simple sequence repeat data. The microsatellite markers showed a high level of allelic richness and genetic diversity in the samples. Each of the populations demonstrated excess homozygosity (Ho0). According to a genetic differentiation index (Fst=0.0593), there was a high-level of gene flow in the Ascaris populations. A hierarchical analysis on molecular variance revealed remarkably high levels of variation within the populations. Moreover, a population structure analysis indicated that Ascaris populations fell into 3 main genetic clusters, interpreted as A. suum, A. lumbricoides, and a hybrid of the species. We speculated that humans can be infected with A. lumbricoides, A. suum, and the hybrid, but pigs were mainly infected with A. suum. This study provided new information on the genetic diversity and population structure of Ascaris from human and pigs in China, which can be used for designing Ascaris control strategies. It can also be beneficial to understand the introgression of host affiliation.

Genetic variation in Nilagiri sheep, the only apparel wool breed in South India was studied using 25 FAO recommended ovine-specific microsatellite markers. The number of observed alleles ranged from 3 to 8 with a mean of 5 across all loci. The size of alleles ranged from 72 to 228 bp. The frequency of alleles ranged from 0.0104 to 0.5781. In total, 125 alleles were observed at the 25 loci studied. The effective number of alleles ranged from 2.18 to 6.49. The mean number of effective alleles was 3.84 across all loci. All the 25 loci were found to be highly polymorphic. The PIC values ranged from 0.4587 to 0.8277 with a mean of 0.6485. Of 25 microsatellites studied, 17 were in Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium proportions. The observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.4222 to 1.000 with a mean value of 0.7610 whereas the expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.5415 to 0.8459 with a mean value of 0.7213. Except six loci, the other loci revealed negative within-population inbreeding estimates (FIS) indicating excess of heterozygotes in the population of Nilagiri sheep.
