  • We propose two feedback interference cancellers(FICs) to improve the performance of the equalization digital on-channel repeater(EDOCR) with the FIC for the ATSC DTV broadcasting system. The FIC estimates the feedback channel between Tx. and Rx. antennas of the repeater by cross-correlating the reference signal and the feedback signal. Since there is a DC pilot which ruins the white property of the ATSC DTV signals, the FIC cannot estimate the feedback channel accurately. To solve the problem, the structural method which uses an additional DC pilot free reference for feedback channel estimation and the algorithmic method based on the digital signal processing which whitens the ATSC DTV signals and performs the feedback cancellation in the whitened signal domain. Simulation results show that the proposed two FICs show better feedback cancellation performance than the conventional FIC.

  • Purpose: To determine whether responses to serotonin are altered in bladder strips from cats diagnosed with a naturally occurring form of bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis termed feline interstitial cystitis (FIC). Methods: Full thickness bladder strips were isolated from aged matched healthy control cats and cats with clinically verified FIC. Bladder strips were mounted in an organ bath and connected to a tension transducer to record contractile activity. A serotonin dose response ($0.01-10{\mu}M$) was determined for each strip with the mucosa intact or denuded. Results: Bladder strips from control and FIC cats contracted in response to serotonin in a dose-dependent manner. The normalized force of serotonin-evoked contractions was significantly greater in bladder strips from cats with FIC (n=7) than from control cats (n=4). Removal of the mucosa significantly decreased serotonin-mediated responses in both control and FIC bladder preparations. Furthermore, the contractions in response to serotonin were abolished by $1{\mu}M$ atropine in both control and FIC bladder strips. Conclusions: The effect of serotonin on contractile force, but not sensitivity, was potentiated in bladder strips from cats with FIC, and was dependent upon the presence of the mucosa in control and FIC groups. As atropine inhibited these effects of serotonin, we hypothesize that, serotonin enhances acetylcholine release from the mucosa of FIC cat bladder strips, which could account for the increased force generated. In summary, FIC augments the responsiveness of bladder to serotonin, which may contribute to the symptoms associated with this chronic condition.

  • In this paper, we propose an equalization digital on-channel repeater (EDOCR) with a feedback interference canceller (FIC) for single frequency network of the ATSC terrestrial DTV system. The proposed EDOCR with FIC does not have only high output power by cancelling feedback signals caused by insufficient antenna isolation through the FIC, but also shows better quality of output signals than the conventional on-channel repeaters (OCRs) by removing multipath signals existing between the main transmitter and the OCR, and residual feedback signals through an equalizer. In addition, computer simulations are provided to figure out the superior performance of the proposed EDOCR with FIC.

  • The FIC(Flat Integrated Circuits)is widely used for good productivity but very difficult for visual identification. The required position tolerance is 0.05mm and orientation tolerance is 0.25 degree for assembly. The research was performed to detect FIC defects and to estimate the placement of FIC within the tolerances. In this study an automatic visual system is developed, which can successfully perform a fine assembly operation using the cartesian robot.

  • Terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (TDMB) is a method of bringing multimedia images, radio, internet, and television to portable devices through terrestrial digital radio transmissions. TDMB related educations being carried out in colleges are focusing on developing firmware which enables users to choose a wanted service. TDMB transmission frame is made up of synchronization channel (SC), fast information channel (FIC), and main service channel (MSC). Services such as video, audio and date are transmitted in the form of subchannel in the MSC. FIC carries information related to each services and subchannels. This paper presents a TDMB frame analysis simulator for analyzing and displaying FIC data on PC. TDMB frame analysis simulator contains functions such as controlling TDMB receiver through USB, establishing the frequency, bringing FIC to PC, displaying ensemble ID and levels, and displaying informations related to services and subchannels. In addition to that, this simulator has a function of being able to store FIC date and subchannel data. This simulator being developed with C++ is expected to be used to view those data visually so that it helps students to understand the TDMB system better and bring about the educational motivation.

  • This paper presents the algorithm of FIC inspection in chip mounter. When device is mounted on the PCB, it is impossible to get zero defects since there are many problems which can not be predicted. Of these problems, devices with bent corner leads due to mis-handling and which are not placed at a given point measured along the axis are principal problem in SMT(Surface Mounting Technology). In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm based on the Radon transform which uses a projection to inspect the FIC(Flat Integrated Circuit) device and compared this method with other algorithms. We measured the position error and applied this algorithm to our image processing board which is characterized by line scan camera. We compared speed and accuracy in our board.

  • Cytotoxicity assessment of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was performed using MTT-based microfluidic image cytometry (${\mu}FIC$). The $LC_{50}$ value of HeLa cells exposed to AgNPs in the microfluidic device was estimated as 46.7 mg/L, which is similar to that estimated by MTT-based IC for cells cultured in a 96 well plate (49.9 mg/L). These results confirm that the ${\mu}FIC$ approach can produce cytotoxicity data that is reasonably well-matched with that of the conventional 96 well plate system with much higher efficiency. This ${\mu}FIC$ method provides many benefits including ease of use and low cost, and is a more rapid in vitro cell based assay for AgNPs. This may aid in speeding up data acquisition in the field of nanosafety and make a significant contribution to the quantitative understanding of nanoproperty-toxicity relationships.

  • In an effort to discover alternative antimicrobials against Listeria monocytogenes, several marine algae were screened. The methanolic extract of Ecklonia cava exhibited the highest antibacterial activity against L. monocytogenes, with the ethyl acetate (EtOAc) soluble fraction of E. cava methanolic extract having a MIC value of $256{\mu}g/mL$ and a MBC value of ${\mu}g/mL$. The MIC values of streptomycin in combination with the EtOAc fraction were markedly reduced up to 64-fold, suggesting that the antibacterial activity of the antibiotic was restored when combined with the EtOAc fraction. The interaction between streptomycin and the EtOAc fraction was assessed by fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) indices. The combination of streptomycin and the EtOAc fraction against L. monocytogenes resulted in ${\Sigma}FIC_{min}$ range of 0.141 to 0.266 and ${\Sigma}FIC_{max}$ of 0.531 for all strains. The median ${\Sigma}FIC$ against L. monocytogenes strains ranged from 0.172 to 0.344. Thus, synergistic ranges of FIC <1 were observed for all combinations of streptomycin and the EtOAc fraction against L. monocytogenes strains. Indeed, the median ${\Sigma}FIC$ of streptomycin-EtOAc fraction ranged from 0.172 to 0.344, suggesting a marked synergy.

  • The stability of low-speed spinning process exhibiting spinline flow-induced crystallization (FIC) with no neck-like spinline deformation has been investigated using the method of linear stability analysis. Effects of various process conditions such as fluid viscoelasticity and the spinline cooling on the spinning stability have been found closely related to the development of the spinline crystallinity. It also has been found that the FIC makes the system less stable or more unstable than no FIC cases when the spinline crystallinity reaches its maximum possible value, whereas the FIC generally stabilizes the system if the crystallinity doesn't reach its maximum value on the spinline. It is believed that the destabilizing effect of the FIC on low-speed spinning when the crystallinity is fully developed on the spinline is due to the reduction of the real spinning length available for deformation on the spinline. On the other hand, the increased spinline tension caused by the FIC when the maximum crystallinity is not reached on the spinline and thus no reduction in the spinning length occurs, makes the sensitivity of spinline variables to external disturbances smaller and hence stabilizes the system. These linear stability results are consistent with the findings by nonlinear transient simulation, as first reported by Lee et al. (2005b).

  • The effect of combinations of 8 antimicrobial agents on the growth of Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus was investigated with the minimum inhibitory concentration and fractional inhibitory concentration(FIC) and ${\Sigma}FIC$ index. According to the ${\Sigma}FIC$ values by. The American Society for Microbiology and Berenbaum, Approximately 34% and 82% of the combinations were synergistic respectively. Partial synergy described by Isenberg was also observed in the half of the combinations. There was a tendency for additive antimicrobial effect against cariogenic bacteria though the test results showed difference according to the applied values. It may be beneficial to use combined antimicrobial agents that have various activities against an ecosystem and metabolism of bacteria than using individual agents.
