This paper deals with dynamic instability of slender rocket-propelled flying bodies, such as launch vehicle and advances missiles subjected to aerodynamic loads and an end rocket thrust. A flying body is simplified into a uniform free-free beam subjected to an end follower thrust. Two types of aerodynamic loads are assumed in the stability analysis. Firstly, it is assumed that two concentrated aerodynamic loads act on the flying body at its nose and tail. Secondly, to take account of effect of unsteady flow due to motion of a flexible flying body, aerodynamic load is estimated by the slender body approximation. Extended Hamilton's principle is applied to the considered beam for deriving the equation of motion. Application of FEM yields standardeigen-value problem. Dynamic stability of the beam is determined by the sign of the real part of the complex eigen-values. If aerodynamic loads are concentrated loads that act on the flying body at its nose and tail, the flutter thrust decreases by about 10% in comparison with the flutter thrust of free-free beam subjected only to an end follower thrust. If aerodynamic loads are distributed along the longitudinal axis of the flying body, the flutter thrust decreases by about 70% in comparison with the flutter thrust of free-free beam under an end follower thrust. It is found that the flutter thrust is reduced considerably if the aerodynamic loads are taken into account in addition to an end rocket thrust in the stability analysis of slender rocket-propelled flying bodies.
For the pressure compaction process of the ceramic powder, the density distribution is very important for the uniform shrinkages at the sintered body. In this paper, we fabricated alumina green body using compaction process and simulated about same condition. Then comparison of simulation and experimental result confirmed that accuracy of simulation. On the average density of top and lower part was each $2.41g/cm^3,\;2.27g/cm^3$ and deviation at final step was calculated with 0.06 in simulation. Also, experiments show that total density of top and lower part was each $2.59g/cm^3,\;2.36g/cm^3$, and deviation was 0.09. Conclusion, that was not a difference to the simulation and experimental result. The application using the finite element simulation method is possible optimization of the compressing process, predict generated part of cracks and there is a possibility of getting result of more fast, more accurate then existing experience method.

The strength and buckling problem of a five layer sandwich beam under axial compression or bending is presented. Two faces of the beam are thin aluminium sheets and the core is made of aluminium foam. Between the faces and the core there are two thin binding glue layers. In the paper a mathematical model of the field of displacements, which includes a share effect and a bending moment, is presented. The system of partial differential equations of equilibrium for the five layer sandwich beam is derived on the basis of the principle of stationary total potential energy. The equations are analytically solved and the critical load is obtained. For comparison reasons a finite element model of the beam is formulated. For the case of bended beam the static analysis has been performed to obtain the stress distribution across the height of the beam. For the axially compressed beam the buckling analysis was carried out to determine the buckling load and buckling shape. Moreover, experimental investigations are carried out for two beams. The comparison of the results obtained in the analytical and numerical (FEM) analysis is shown in graphs and figures. The main aim of the paper is to present an analytical model of the five layer beam and to compare the results of the theoretical, numerical and experimental analyses.

This paper, presents a comparison between numerical analysis and field test on a real offshore platform in Bohai Bay, China. This platform is a steel jacket offshore platform with vertical piles. The field testing under wave-induced force and wind force etc. was conducted, in order to obtain the dynamic parameters of the structure, including the frequencies of the jacket platform, as well as the corresponding damping ratios and mode shapes. The natural excitation technology (NexT) combined with eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA) and the peak picking (PP) method in frequency domain are carried out for modal parameter indentification under operational conditions. The three-dimeansional finite element model (FEM) is constructed by ANSYS and analytical modal analysis is performed to generate modal parameters. The analytical results were compared with experimental results. A good agreement was achieved between the finite element and analysis and field test results. It is further demonstrated that the numerical and experimental modal analysis provide a comprehensive study on the dynamic properties of the jacket platform. According to the analysis results, the modal parameters identification under ambient excitation can calibrate finite element model of the jacket platform structures, or can be used for the structural health monitoring system.
This study investigates the behavior of group of tapered and cylindrical piles. The bearing capacities of groups of tapered and cylindrical piles are computed and compared. Modeling of group of piles in this study is conducted in sand using three-dimensional finite element software. For this purpose, total bearing capacity of each group is firstly calculated using the load-displacement curve under specific load and common techniques. Then, the model of group of piles is reloaded under this calculated capacity to find group settlements, stress states on the lateral surfaces of group block, efficiency of group and etc. In order to calculate the efficiency of each group, single tapered and cylindrical piles are modeled separately. Comparison for both tapered and cylindrical group of piles with same volume is conducted and a relation to predict tapered pile group efficiency is developed. A parametric study is also performed by changing parameters such as tapered angle, angle of internal friction of sand, dilatancy angle of soil and coefficient of lateral earth pressure to find their influences on single pile and pile group behavior.
The hot spot stress approach is usually adopted in the fatigue design and analysis of tubular welded joints. To apply the hot spot stress approach for fatigue evaluation of long span suspension bridges, the FEM is used to determine the hot spot stress of critical fatigue location. Using the local finite element models of the Tsing Ma Bridge, typical joints are developed and the stress concentration factors are determined. As a case for study, the calculated stress concentration factor is combined with the nominal representative stress block cycle to obtain the representative hot spot stress range cycle block under traffic loading from online health monitoring system. A comparison is made between the nominal stress approach and the hot spot stress approach for fatigue life evaluation of the Tsing Ma Bridge. The comparison result shows that the nominal stress approach cannot consider the most critical stress of the fatigue damage location and the hot spot stress approach is more appropriate for fatigue evaluation.

Inductance characteristics, torque variations and ripple according to current, and position of multi-layer buried magnet synchronous machines with field-weakening operations are presented. The rotor structure optimal design of a buried magnet synchronous machine with high performance is investigated, and optimization results and comparison among design candidates are shown. For the fast and accurate search of multiple optima, the auto-tuning niching genetic algorithm is used and a final solution is selected considering various design factors.
This paper presents the characteristic analysis by changing the shape and position of auxiliary pole core for Automotive stater motor. The brush contact resistance and mechanical loss calculated from the experimental data are used in characteristic analysis. The Finite Element Analysis Method(FEM) and 3D Equivalent Magnet Circuit Network(EMCN) are used for analysis. The validity of the proposed methods are verified by comparison of analysis results and experimental ones.
The current paper proposes a boundary element formulation, applicable to 2-D and 3-D elastostatics problems using a unified approach for transformations of the domain integrals into boundary integrals. The method is applicable to linear problems encompassing both finite and infinite multi-region domains allowing non-vanishing body forces. Numerical results agree quite well with the analytical solutions; while the present method offers easy formulation with less numerical efforts in comparison to FEM or some BEM which need interior points to treat arbitrary body forces. It is demonstrated that the method has the potential to have profound impact on engineering design, notably in dam-foundation interaction.
In this paper, we discuss a reduced-order modeling for the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-Burgers (BBMB) equation and its application to a distributed feedback control problem through the centroidal Voronoi tessellation (CVT). Spatial distcritization to the BBMB equation is based on the finite element method (FEM) using B-spline functions. To determine the basis elements for the approximating subspaces, we elucidate the CVT approaches to reduced-order bases with snapshots. For the purpose of comparison, a brief review of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is provided and some numerical experiments implemented including full-order approximation, CVT based model, and POD based model. In the end, we apply CVT reduced-order modeling technique to a feedback control problem for the BBMB equation.
