Stability of Water-in-Oil Emulsion by Gelation;Application of Sun-Block Cream containing Titanium Dioxide($TiO_{2}$) (겔화에 의한 Water-in-Oil에멀젼의 안정성;이산화티타늄($TiO_{2}$)이 함유된 Sun-block Cream의 응용)

  • Cosmetic industries have recently developed sun-block products, which are composed of W/O or O/W emulsion system. It was very difficult for waterproofing product to show the stability in W/O emulsion with $TiO_{2}$. To enhance the stability of W/O emulsion, it needs to be combined with the water and oil soluble components as the gelling agents. The emulsifiers used in W/O were 3.0% of cetyl dimethicone copolyol, 2.0% of sorbitan sesquioleate as the basic emulsifiers, and 0.6% of quaternium-18 bentonite and 1.5% of dextrin palmitate as stabilizer were used. The content of titanium dioxide was optimized up to 8.0%. Titanium dioxide was used as the UV scattering powder coated with $Al_{2}O_{3}$(UV-sperse T40/TN). The sunscreen cream prepared with W/O emulsion system by using QB and DP showed higher stability than that of W/O emulsion system by using each QB and DP. W/O emulsion from Formula 3 for passing one year was very durable more than F1 and F2. Within W/O emulsion by observing F1, F2 and F3 for one year, F3 was more excellent than F2 and F3 when they were observed at RT, $4^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, because F3 used the mixed QB and DP in W/O emulsion. The zeta potential for F1, F2, and F3 after one year were 21, 30 and 43, respectively. From these result F3 was found best stable emulsion. The in-vitro SPF value for F3 was 35 for the initial product at room temperature and also, the in-vitro SPF values of F3 was 32 for after one year. Finally, the mean in-vivo SPF value of 10 volunteers for F3 was 27.3 by the Korea cosmetic association made the rules of SPF.

Linarin enhances melanogenesis in B16F10 cells via MAPK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways

  • In this study, we discovered for the first time that linarin, a flavonoid compound, enhances melanin biosynthesis in B16F10 cells, and subsequently elucidated the underlying mechanism of linarin-induced melanogenesis. Linarin showed no cytotoxicity at a concentration of 42 μM and significantly increased intracellular tyrosinase activity and melanin content in B16F10 cells. Mechanistic analysis showed that linarin increased the expression of tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TRP-1), and microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) that are related to melanogenesis. Moreover, linarin decreased the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and protein kinase B (AKT). Finally, we evaluated the effect of the structure-activity relationship of linarin and its aglycone on melanogenesis. The results indicated that linarin enhances the expression of melanogenic proteins by activating MITF expression via the modulation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), and protein kinase B signaling pathways in B16F10 cells, thereby enhancing melanogenesis.

  • Each parching Anemarrhenae Rhizoma with 25% ethanol and normal saline has been used for anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antipyretic, sedative and diuretic, and so on. In order to investigate the differences of referential efficacy about each fractionated part of the aqueous extracts, pharmacological studies were carried out. The results of studies were summerized as follows : 1. By the administration of 25% ethanol treated preparation (F-I-1), the increase in urinary volume and $Na^+$ extraction was significantly recognized. 2. The excretion of electrolyte $Na^+$ by saline solution treated preparation (F-II-1) was significantly recognised in normal rats. 3. The increase of urinary volume and urinary $Na^+$ and $Cl^-$ excretion by F-I-1 and n-butanol insoluble parts of F-I-1 (F-I-3) was significantly recognized in $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure of rats. 4. The increase of plasma $Na^+$ by F-I-1 and urea nitrogen by F-I-1 and F-I-3 in acute renal failure of rats was significantly recognized. 5. The increase of urinary volume by F-I-1 and F-I-3 was recognised in mice.

Marketing Activities of Producers' Organization and Direction of Consumption Increase on Organic Farming Products (유기농산물 생산자 조직의 유통활동과 소비확대 방향)

  • This study analyzed marketing activities of producers' organization on organic farming products(O.F.Ps), and was inquired into direction of consumption increase by it. As a result, in order to raise marketing efficiency and to increase consumption of O.F.Ps, the present questions and issues which are to be solved is as follows: Consumer's confidence for O.F.Ps should be obtained broadly and formally. Particulary, the use of brand such as 'no pollution' or ' no pesticides' should be forbidden without institutional certification. Thus cosumers should be able to distinguish O.F.Ps from general farming products(G.F.Ps) by the brand. Also physical marketing is inefficient since many items are marketed in small amount, and marketing cost is spendedtoo much relatively. Physical marketing center to cut down this expenses should be constructed under government support largely. And the consumers' price of O.F.Ps tends to be fixed all the year round. Owing to this feature, the consumers' price of G.F.Ps have severely influece upon at once demand and supply of O.F.Ps. The associations of consumer and producer should allow O.F.Ps price to fluctuate in proportion to G.F.Ps price. Besides, both should vary marketing patterns. Finally, government should help both associations legally and institutionally to improve all economic activities.

Defect center of $Li^{+}$ ion implanted $Al_2O_3$ ($Li^{+}$ 이온 주입된 $Al_2O_3$의 결함 특성)

  • The thermoluminescence(TL) glow curves and the optical absorption of $Al_2O_3$ irradiated with ${\gamma}$-ray, electron, and $Li^{+}$ ion followed by electron irradiation have been investigated to determine the relation of TL peak to its defect type. The TL glow curve of $Al_2O_3$ irradiated with ${\gamma}$-ray shows TL peaks at 380 K, 415 K, and 475 K. The UV photobleached TL glow curve of $Al_2O_3$ irradiated with ${\gamma}$-ray shows that the 380 K and 475 K TL peaks completely disappear while the 415 K TL peak still exists. The electron beam induced TL glow curve of $Al_2O_3$ after $Li^{+}$ ion implantation shows that the TL peak at 440 K is enhanced by a factor of 2 over the TL intensity of unimplanted $Al_2O_3$ while the TL peak at 380 K evidently disappears The implanted $Li^{+}$ ions are assumed to form singly charged interstitial cations and then recombine with electron trapped in F centers to produce F+ centers. The 380 K and 475 K TL peaks are proposed to be associated with F center, while the 415 K and 440 K TL peak are connected with F$^{+}$ center.

  • Let $C_1(X)$ be a normed linear space over ${\mathbb{R}}^m$, and S be an n-dimensional subspace of $C_1(X)$ with spaned by {$s_1,{\cdots},s_n$}. For each ${\ell}$- tuple vectors F in $C_1(X)$, the two-sided best simultaneous approximation problem is $$\min_{s{\in}S}\;\max\limits_{i=1}^\ell\{{\parallel}f_i-s{\parallel}_1\}$$. A $s{\in}S$ attaining the above minimum is called a two-sided best simultaneous approximation or a Chebyshev center for $F=\{f_1,{\cdots},f_{\ell}\}$ from S. This paper is concerned with algorithm for calculating two-sided best simultaneous approximation, in the case of continuous functions.

Cone-beam computed tomography of mandibular foramen and lingula for mandibular anesthesia

  • Purpose: The positions of the mandibular foramen (MnF) and the lingula affect the success rate of inferior alveolar nerve block. The objective of this study was to investigate aspects of the MnF and the lingula relevant for mandibular block anesthesia using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: Fifty CBCT scans were collected from a picture archiving and communications system. All scans were taken using an Alphard Vega 3030 (Asahi Roentgen Co. Ltd., Kyoto, Japan). Fifty-eight MnFs of 30 subjects were included in the study. The position of the MnF, the size of the MnF, the position of the lingula, the size of the lingula, and the shape of the lingula were measured and recorded. All data were statistically analyzed at a significance level of P<0.05. Results: The position of MnF was 0.1 mm and 0.8 mm below the occlusal plane in males and females, respectively. The horizontal position of the MnF was slightly anterior to the center of the ramus in males and in the center in females (P<0.05). The vertical position of the MnF was lower in females than in males(P<0.05). The MnF was an oval shape with a longer anteroposterior dimension. The height of the lingula was 9.3 mm in males and 8.2 mm in females. The nodular type was the most common shape of the lingula, followed by the triangular, truncated, and assimilated types. Conclusion: CBCT provided useful information about the MnF and lingula. This information could improve the success rate of mandibular blocks.

Synthesis of [18F]Fluorocholine Analogues as a Potential Imaging Agent for PET Studies

  • There have been intensive studies concerning $[^{11}F]$choline ($[^{11}F]$methyldimethyl( ${\beta}$ -hydroxyethyl) ammonium) (1) which is known as a very effective tracer in imaging various human tumors localized in brain, lung, esophagus, rectum, prostate and urinary bladder using Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and there is increasing interest in $^{18}F$ labelled choline (2) and proved to be useful to visualize prostate cancer. We have prepared six $^{18}F$ labelled alkyl choline derivatives (3a-3c, 4a-4c) from ditosylated and dibrominated alkanes in moderate yields. The six alkyl tosylate or bromate ammonium salts have been synthesized as precursors. Radiofluorination was achieved by the treatment of precursors with $^{18}F$ - in the presence of Kryptofix-2.2.2.. The labeling yields varied ranging from 7 to 25%.

F-18 FDG Uptake in Respiratory Muscle Mimicking Metastasis in Patients with Gastric Cancer (위암 환자에서 전이로 오인된 호흡근의 F-18 FDG 섭취)

  • A 67-year-old man with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) underwent F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for staging of gastric cancer. The projection images of F-18 FDG PET/CT showed intensely increased F-18 FDG uptake in the anterior neck, chest wall, and upper abdomen. We suspected distant metastases of cervical lymph nodes, ribs, and peritoneum in gastric canter. However, the transaxial images of F-18 FDG PET/CT showed abnormal F-18 FDG uptake in scalene muscles of anterior neck, intercostal muscles of chest wall, and diaphragm of upper abdomen. Patients with COPD use respiratory muscles extensively on the resting condition. These excessive physiologic use of respiratory muscles causes increased F-18 FDG uptake as a result of increased glucose metabolism. The F-18 FDG uptake in respiratory muscles of gastric cancer patient with COPD mimicked distant metastases in cervical lymph nodes, ribs, and peritoneum.

Microbiological and Physicochemical Quality Characteristics of Raw Noodle with Natural Food Preservatives (복합항균제제를 첨가한 생면의 미생물학적 및 이화학적 품질 특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of natural preservatives (G3, G3-1, F3, and F3-1) using Cordyceps militaris on improvement of food quality and safety of noodle during storage. Wheat flour noodle were prepared using three different concentrations of natural preservatives (0.100, 0.200, and 0.400%). Changes in microbial populations, pH value, titratable acidity, and sensory evaluation were measured during storage at $12{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for 3 days. Overall, use of natural preservatives resulted in lower levels of total mesophilic bacteria, coliform, yeast and mold in noodle compared to the control. In particular, natural preservatives using $2{\times}$ MIC concentrations (0.400%) of F3 and F3-1 were effective at maintaining levels of total mesophilic bacteria for noodle during storage. The pH values of noodle made with F3 and F3-1 were higher than the others. The titratable acidity of noodle with natural preservatives did not significantly change during storage. In sensory evaluation, appearance, color, and overall acceptability of noodle with F3 and F3-1 were preferred than the control. These results could provide useful information for developing an alternative preservation method to improve food quality and shelf-life of noodle using natural preservatives.
