  • This research aims to identify the relationship between visual perception and emotion by the types of fear responses elicited from warning images on cigarette packages as well as the effectiveness of the size of such images through questionnaires and eye-tracking experiments with twenty university students from the colleges based in Busan. The research distinguished and analyzed the warning images as rational appeals and emotional appeals by the degree of fear and disgust and the result concurred with the research conclusions of Maynard that people would naturally avoid eye contact when presented with a warning image on cigarette packages. Also, eye avoidance was highly identified with larger (75%) warning images. While the previous research mostly adopted the self-rated validation method, this research tried to make the methodology more objective by adopting both questionnaires and eye-tracking experiments. Through this research, authors contribute to finding effective warning images on cigarette packages in a way to increase public awareness of the dangers of smoking and discourage smoking. Further research is recommended to explore the effectiveness of using explicit images on cigarette packages by the types of smokers such as heavy smokers, normal smokers, and non-smokers.

  • The purpose of this study is to get related appropriate data for correct awareness and education of the university students who are using contact lens by investigating university students' awareness, present status, using habits and complication of contact lens. The method of survey was made by questionnaires which were spread to the group of 408 university students. The result indicated some characteristics including using daily wear soft lens of 55.7%, the major motive of using them is for cosmetics of 45.6%. Among them, 54.9% experienced complication, and the xerophthalmia was the most conspicuous case in the aspect of the kinds of the complication. In the aspect of the place where they purchased the contact lens, 93% of the users bought them at eye glasses stores. But when they experienced inconveniences of the contact lens, only 18.8% consulted the Stores. In the fact, I think, the users don't seem to trust the stores fully. Furthermore, 43.5% endure the inconveniences when they get them without any treatment. The fact indicates that they don't realize the seriousness of the complication due to contact lens. Reviewing above-stated facts, information and education for correct awareness and managing methods of contact lens, the complication seem 10 be required. In addition, optician specialized knowledge on contact lens and the sense of duty on national eye health improvement seem to be required.

  • Purpose: When we look at the object, we used the dominant eye mainly. For this reason, a prescription of the dominant eye is an important factor for glasses and contact lenses. This study evaluated visual acuity differences between dominant and nondominant eyes through analyzing refractive power changes in both eyes by the ages. Methods: This study was performed to investigate the relationship between refractive error and dominant eye which had the superiority in the function of binocular. 186 subjects without ocular disease were examined on the dominant eye. The dominant eye was examined by the Hole-in-the-card test. For the consistency of the measurements, we tested refractive power in three times by the same person. Results: Using SPSS, the relationship between vision and the dominant eye was analyzed. 135 people of the whole subjects have the dominant eye on right. The Number of the non-dominant eye is 51. We were divided into 3 types, the group under the age of 10 that begins to expose environment factor affect on vision (the average age $8.8{\pm}1.18$) and the age group of 10 to 20 that begins to change refractive power in earnest (the average age $14.1{\pm}2.58$) and the group after the age 20 that began to stabilize vision (the average age $51.8{\pm}17.51$). The visual acuity of dominant eye was higher than non-dominant eye in all age groups. Nevertheless, these results were not statistically significant. Mean astigmatism of dominant eye was smaller than the non-dominant eye, and this is significant, statistically (p=0.017<0.05). Conclusions: It is expected that the balanced eye with a lower level of astigmatism has a more possibility become a dominant eye.

  • In recent years, there has been rapid progress in different areas of vision science, such as refractive surgical procedures, contact lenses and spectacles, and near vision. This progress requires a highly accurate modeling of optical performance of the human eyes in different accommodation states. A new novel model-eye was designed using the Navarro accommodation-dependent finite model eye. For each of the vergence distances, ocular wavefront error, accommodative response, and visual acuity were calculated. Using the new model eye ocular wavefront error, accommodation dative response, and visual acuity are calculated for six vergence stimuli, -0.17D, 1D, 2D, 3D, 4D and -5D. Also, $3^{rd}\;and\;4^{th}$ order aberrations, modulation transfer function, and visual acuity of the accommodation-dependent model eye were analyzed. These results are well-matched to anatomical, biometric, and optical realities. Our corrected accommodation-dependent model-eye may provide a more accurate way to evaluate optical transfer functions and optical performances of the human eye.

  • Purpose. To investigate the relationship between changes in eye temperature and eye fatigue according to smartphone usage time. Methods. 15 adults in their 20s were asked to watch a smartphone, and the ocular surface temperature was measured 5 times each using a non-contact infrared thermometer every 10 minutes, and the change was observed. Result. The ocular surface temperature was 36.40℃ at the center of the cornea before watching the smartphone, but increased by 0.19℃ to 36.59℃ after watching the smartphone (SD 36.50±0.10). In addition, in the case of the sclera, it was found that the increase was 0.1℃ from 36.48℃ before viewing to 36.58℃ after viewing (SD 36.53±0.05). Conclusion. It was found that there is a close relationship between smartphone use and changes in eye temperature. In the future, it is thought that the ocular surface temperature can be used as basic data to objectively evaluate eye fatigue.

  • It has been well documented that dermal irradiation by ultraviolet A (UVA) locally decreases the number of Langerhans cells and suppresses contact hypersensitivity of the skin. We found that topical irradiation of UVA to the eye systemically decreased the number of Langerhans cells (LC) in the dorsalskin and lymph nodes and elicited lymphocyte apoptosis in the latter tissues but not in the thymus. Optic nerve resection, but not ciliary ganglionectomy, eliminated the UVA-induced decrease in dermal Langerhans cells by a mechanism that was partially inhibited by hypophysectomy. The immunosuppressive effect of UVA was not observed in knockout mice lacking inducible-type of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). These results suggested that topical irradiation of UVA to the eye induced immunosuppression via NO-dependet neuronal pathways.

  • The rigid gas permeable(RGP) contact lens has nearly side effect on the cornea. So that, this lens has used the clinical reflective correction of the eye. This study have used several methods for research the fine internal structure on the RGP contact lens by scanning electron microscopy. The results have indicated that the postfixation of 1% $OsO_4$ and tannic acid is responsible for a fine structure in the internal plane of RGP contact lens. These internal surface of contact lens appeared the several shape of the hole of the stereo shape form with arrangement of round form. But, on the contact lens with non-postfixation, the stereo shape have not present and the boundary of the vesicle have not clear. Maybe, these results suggest that the fixation methods have effect on the morphological characters of materials on the RGP contact lens.

  • Purpose. This study categorizes vision correction subjects by age and gender, and aims to find out which glasses or contact lenses the subjects of each age group show preference based on the answers of the questionnaires answered by the subjects. Methods. A study was conducted in the form of a questionnaire through SNS on the types of correction tools used for the purpose of correcting ametropia for the general public from their teens to their 50s. Results. As for the most preferred method for correcting asymmetry, in the case of teenagers, glasses were the most common at 50%, glasses and contact lenses the most at 43.8% each, and glasses in their 30s at 50%. Those in their 40s had the most glasses at 75%, and those in their 50s wore glasses and sunglasses at 50%. Conclusions. Since the demand for vision correction and eye protection methods varies according to age and gender, it is necessary to identify and design the flow of these demands in the existing market. Therefore, it is necessary to make a judgment that can contribute to the development of eye health targeting the main customer base and the provision of appropriate services to consumers.
