  • In this research, we produced polycrystalline n-type $Bi_2Te_{2.7}Se_{0.3}$ powder using water atomization. To obtain full benefit through water atomized powder, we have implemented spark plasma sintering and hot extrusion for powder compaction. The microstructure and thermoelectric properties were investigated and compared. The average grain size of SPS and extruded bulks were 3.08 and $3.86{\mu}m$ respectively. The extruded material microstructure contains layered grains with less grain boundaries and its counter-part SPS displays dense packed grains with high grain boundaries. Among both bulks, extrusion sample exhibited high power factor (PF) of $2.96{\times}10^{-3}Wm^{-1}K^{-2}$ which is 38% higher than SPS ($2.14{\times}10^{-3}$) bulk sample. Due to variations in grain size and grain boundaries, the SPS bulk shows low thermal conductivity than extruded bulk. However, the extruded bulk sample exhibited a peak ZT of 0.69 at 400 K, which is 19% higher than SPS bulk sample, due to its higher power factor.

Effects of extrusion of rice bran on performance and phosphorous bioavailability in broiler chickens

  • Background: Rice bran is a by-product of the rice-milling process, which remains largely underutilized; however, efficient processing treatments may improve its feeding value for chickens. This is of great economic and environmental importance, as this can lower the production costs, and offer an opportunity for valorization of a low-quality agricultural by-product, to a high-value feed source. Methods: This experiment was conducted to study the effect of extruded rice bran on performance and phosphorous (P) bioavailability in broiler chickens. In a completely randomized design, 200 seven-day-old broilers (Cobb 500) were allotted to five treatments with five replicates per treatment and 8 chicks per replicate, and fed with their respective diet during the starter (8 to 21 days) and grower (22 to 42 days) periods. Diets were a basal corn-soybean based diet (T1), or diets containing 20 % rice bran (T2), 30 % rice bran (T3), 20 % extruded rice bran (T4), or 30 % extruded rice bran (T5). Results: Birds feeding on T4 and T5 diets had a higher body weight gain and lower feed-to-gain ratio compared to those feeding on T2 and T3 diets (p < 0.05). Birds receiving diets containing extruded rice bran had higher total P availability and tibia ash content, as compared with those receiving diets containing un-extruded rice bran (p < 0.05). Relative weight of the pancreas was higher in birds receiving T2 and T3 diets. Conclusions: The results confirmed the beneficial effect of extrusion treatment of rice bran on performance and P availability in broilers. Up to 30 % extruded rice bran may be included in the broiler diet without apparent adverse effects on the performance.

압출성형 백삼추출물의 화학적 조성 및 항산화 활성 (Chemical Compositions and Antioxidant Activity of Extract from a Extruded White Ginseng)

  • 본 연구는 압출성형 공정을 통한 인삼 시료의 성분 변화를 측정하기 위하여 일반성분 및 항산화활성을 측정하였다. 수분함량을 20%로 고정시키고, 배럴온도는 100, $140^{\ciirc}C$로 변화시켜 압출성형백삼을 제조하였다. 백삼, 홍삼, 압출성형백삼의 일반성분 실험에서는 압출성형 공정을 통한 성분의 증가를 확인할 수 없었다. 항산화활성 측정 결과 산성다당체 함량은 홍삼이 62.94 mg/mL로 높게 측정되었고 총 폴리페놀함량과 DPPH 측정에서는 $140^{\circ}C$ 압출성형백삼이 각각 14.99 mg/g, 80.21%로 높게 측정되어 압출성형 공정을 통한 항산화 물질의 증가를 확인할 수 있었다. $140^{\circ}C$ 압출성형백삼의 조성 분석을 위하여 BuOH 분획을 실시한 결과 총페놀성 화합물과 산성다당체 측정 결과가 각각 27.2 mg/g, 217.6 mg/mL로 측정되었으며 HPLC를 통해 알아본 사포닌 조성은 $140^{\circ}C$ 압출성형백삼에서 모든 성분의 증가를 확인할 수 있었고 특히 홍삼의 특유성분인 Rg3s, Rg3r의 증가로 압출성형 공정을 통한 백삼의 홍삼화 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

고속 압출 전처리 공정을 이용한 Chlorella sp. 당화 및 바이오에탄올 생산 (Saccharification and Ethanol Production from Chlorella sp. Through High Speed Extrusion Pretreatment)

  • Among various pretreatment processes for bioethanol production, extrusion pretreatment, one of cheap and simple process was investigated to efficiently produce fermentable sugars from micro alga, Chlorella sp. The biomass was pretreated in a single screw extruder at five different barrel temperatures of 45, 50, 55, 60 and $65^{\circ}C$, respectively with five screw rotation speed of 10, 50, 100, 150 and 200 rpm. The pretreated biomass was reacted with two different hydrolyzing enzymes of cellulase and amyloglucosidase since the biomass contained different types of carbohydrates, compared to cellulose of agricultural by-products such wheat and corn stovers, etc. In general, higher glucose conversion yield was obtained as 13.24 (%, w/w) at $55^{\circ}C$ of barrel temperature and 100 rpm of screw speed conditions. In treating 5 FPU/glucan of cellulase and 150 Unit/mL of amyloglucosidase, ca. 64% of cellulose and 40% of polysaccharides in the micro alga were converted into glucose, which was higher yields than those from other reported data without applying an extrusion process. 84% of the fermentable sugars obtained from the hyrolyzing processes were fermented into ethanol in considering 50% of theoretical maximum fermentation yield of the yeast. These results implied that high speed extrusion could be suitable as a pretreatment process for the production of bioethanol from Chlorella sp.

Treatments Effect on Biological Values of Defatted Rice Polishings

  • Defatted rice polishings (DRP) was subjected to chemical treatments i.e., 0.4 N HCl, and 6% $H_2O_2$, with or without physical treatment i.e. extrusion cooking. The treated DRP was evaluated chemically and biologically using male broiler chicks (108) of approximately uniform weight, selected out of 220 chicks, previously fed on commercial diets for 7 days as a settlement period. The chicks were then divided into 36 experimental units of 3 chicks each. Each experimental diet was randomly allotted to three experimental units and fed for 10 days to broiler chicks. The experimental diets were designated as A (Commercial), B (10% HCl treated DRP), C (20% HCl treated DRP), D (10% HCl plus extruded DRP), E (20% HCl plus extruded DRP), F (10% $H_2O_2$ DRP) and G (20% $H_2O_2$ DRP), H (10% $H_2O_2$ plus extrusion DRP) and I (20% $H_2O_2$ plus extrusion DRP), J (10% untreated DRP), K (20% untreated DRP) and L (Protein free). The birds fed on diet L were used to measure the endogenous nitrogen loss. The biological evaluations of diets containing differently treated DRP were compared with a commercial feed and feeds containing untreated defatted rice polishings. It was observed that these treatments liberated bound nutrients, making them more accessible to the normal digestive enzymes and increased their apparent nutrient availability. This process probably also detoxified the anti-nutritive factors i.e. phytates, lectin, trypsin inhibitor present in DRP. The results of the feeding trials revealed that diets containing 6% $H_2O_2$ treated DRP showed better weight gain, feed consumption and utilization, protein efficiency and digestibility, biological value and net protein utilization than all other treatments.

압출공정에 의한 수 처리용 평관형알루미나 필터의 미세구조와 특성평가 (Characterization and Microstructure of an Extruded Flat-Tubular-Type Alumina Filter)

  • In this study, flat-tubular-type alumina filters were manufactured using alumina powder of two sizes ($2.4{\mu}m$ ALM-44 and $0.4{\mu}m$ AP 400) by an extrusion process. The manufactured alumina filter was sintered at $1200-1600^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. As particle size increased, the largest pore size, average pore size and porosity increased; but density and linear shrinkage decreased. The alumina filter fabricated using ALM-44 powder sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ was confirmed as the best water treatment filter after investigation of the bending strength, water permeability and impurity-removal efficiency of the experimental filters. This flat-tubular-type alumina filter is expected to be useful not only for direct water treatment, but also for use as a support filter during coating processes, to control pore size.

치주질환으로 인한 전치부 정출(Extrusion)의 심미적 수복에 관한 증례 (Esthetic Realignment of Periodontally Compromised Anterior Teeth)

  • Dental clinicians commonly encounter extrusion of the anterior teeth due to localized alveolar bone loss in adult patients with chronic periodontitis. This pathologic migration of the anterior not only may cause loss of functional anterior guidance and continuous periodontal destruction, but also can lead to esthetic disaster. In fact, most frequently reported chief complaint of the patients with extruded anterior teeth is the 'loss of esthetics', not the periodontal problem itself. The utilization of the expertise and skills in the various dental disciplines is thought to be the best treatment modality for the ultimate functional and esthetic attainment. Interdisciplinary therapy, involving periodontics, orthodontics, and restorative dentistry, was performed for the highest levels of patient and provider satisfaction in this case.

실리콘 코높임술 후 코 부위 외상의 특징 (Characteristics of Nasal Trauma in the Implanted Nasal Prosthesis)

  • Purpose: Presently, silicone rubber is chosen most frequently for nasal augmentation. However, there is a possibility of extrusion with this material. Sometimes, noses are prone to be traumatized, and then silicone rubber has a possibility of deformity or deviation resulting in trauma. We experienced cases with complications and traumatic deformities after the augmentation rhinoplasty. Methods: A retrospective review was performed to determine the characteristics of the implanted nasal silicone prosthesis after trauma. The patients' data such as deviation of implant, shape of fracture, age and sex of the patient, time of treatment, operative methods were reviewed. From March 2001 to March 2008, this study was performed in 30 patients. The patients were 25 females and 5 males, from 24 to 60 years of age, with an average of 42. All patients had previous augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implant. Results: All of the 30 patients were confirmed as deviation of silicone and nasal bone fractures in the facial bone CT scan. The most common cause of fracture was traffic accident. The classification of nasal trauma after augmentation was done by facial bone CT. Class I: Deviation of silicone without nasal bone fracture without extrusion(12 cases, 40%), Class II: Deviation of silicone without nasal bone fracture and with extrusion(4 cases, 13%), Class III: Deviation of silicone with nasal bone fracture and without extrusion(8 cases, 27%), Class IV: Deviation of silicone with nasal bone fracture and with extrusion(3 cases, 10%), Class V: Mild deviation of silicone with nasal bone fracture(3cases, 3%). Specially, the comminuted or trapezoid nasal fracture was confirmed in 11 cases(Class III, IV). Conclusion: The problems of silicone implant have generally been related to foreign body reactions, rigidity of the material, encapsulation, infections, and extrusion. We experienced 11 cases of comminuted or comminuted trapezoid shaped fracture below nasal implant. So, we think this phenomenon could be used in late problem of silicone implant.

Extrusion Processing of Low-Inhibitor Soybeans Improves Growth Performance of Early-Weaned Pigs

  • Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of roasting and extrusion on nutritional value of conventional and low-inhibitor soy beans for nurser-age pigs. In Exp. 1, 100 weaning pigs (7.5 kg average initial BW) were used in a 35-d growth assay to determine the effects of processing method (roasting in a Rast-A-Tron$^{TM}$ raster vs extrusion in an Insta-Pro$^{TM}$ extruder) on the nutritional value of Williams 82 soybeans with (+K) and without (-K) gene expression for the Kunitz trypsin inhibitor. Treatments were 48% soybean meal with added soybean oil, +K roasted, +K extruded, -K roasted and -K extruded. All diets were formulated to contain 3.5 Mcal DE/kg, with 0.92% lysine for d 0 to 14 and 0.76% lysine for d 14 to 35 of the experiment. The lysine concentrations were 80% of NRC (1988) recommendations to accentuate difference in response to protein quality and lysine availability. For d 0 to 14, pigs fed extruded soybeans (+K and -K) had greater ADG (p<0.001), ADFI (p<0.09) and gain/feed (p<0.01) than pigs fed roasted soybeans. For d 14 to 35 and overall, the same effects were noted, i.e., pigs fed extruded soybeans had greater ADG, ADFI and gain/feed than pigs fed roasted soybeans (p<0.03). Also, pigs fed -K soybeans were more efficient (p<0.008) than pigs fed +K soybeans. In Exp. 2, 150 weanling pigs (7.0 kg average initial BW) were used in a 35-d growth assay. All diets were formulated to contain 3.5 Mcal DE/kg, with 1.25% lysine for d 0 to 14 and 1.10% lysine for d 14 to 35 of the experiment. The lysine concentrations were formulated to be in excess of NRC recommendation to determine if differences in nutritional value of the soybean preparations could be detected in protein-adequate diets. For d 0 to 14 (p<0.06), 14 to 35 (p<0.03) and 0 to 35 (p<0.02), pigs fed extruded soybeans had greater ADG and gain/feed than pigs fed roasted soybeans. Apparent digestibilities of DM, N and GE were greater for diets with extruded soybeans than diets with roasted soybeans and diets with soybean meal and soybean oil were intermediate. The response to extrusion processing was greater with -K than +K soybeans, with pigs fed extruded -K soybeans having the greatest growth performance and nutrient digestibilities and lowest skin-fold thickness of any treatment. In conclusion, extrusion yielded a full-fat soy product of greater nutritional value than roasting. Also, selection against genetic expression of the Kunitz trypsin inhibitor improved nutritional value of the resulting soybean preparations.
