A Study of the Extrusion Process of Circular Section Products with Helical Fins by Rotating Extrusion Dies (회전압출다이를 이용한 헬리컬 핀붙이 원형단면 압출가공에 관한 연구)

  • A new extrusion process of the circular section product with helical fins could be developed by using rotating extrusion dies. The twisting of extruded product is caused by the twisted conical die surface connecting the die entrance section and the die exit section linearly. But, until now, because the process has used fixed extrusion dies, it needs high pressure in order to twist billet and form fin shape on the surface of billet. So, during extruding billet, in order not to twist billet, the extrusion dies is needed to rotate itself instead of twisting billet. And in order to rotate dies, the shape of inside contour of extrusion dies must have conical type with twisted Inclined die surface connecting the die entrance section and the die exit section linearly. The results of experiments show that, in spite of using twisted extrusion dies, twisting of the billet should not happen because of rotating dies in the opposite direction of twisting direction of billet during extruding billet, and, from the results, it shows that it can decrease the power of extrusion pressure and could prevent crack of teeth for fin forming.

  • In the previous experimental study about extrusion of circular product with four helical fins, it was known that product with helical fins may not to be rotated during extruding with rotating extrusion dies in spite of using twisted dies. According to the results of experiments with Plasticin material, it was anticipated that the extrusion load could be reduced if rotating dies could be used, because it needs high pressure in order to twist billet and form fin shape on the surface of product in the case of using conventional fixed helical dies. So, in this paper, according to the extrusion load analyzed by DEFORM-3D software, optimal rotational velocity of rotating dies can be obtained, and the twisting, angle of product can be analyzed during extruding product with helical fins in the case of two types of rotating of dies. The results of analysis by DEFORM-3D show that the twisting angle of product can be controlled by twisted angle of extrusion helical dies and the rotational velocity of helical dies.

  • Square dies are widely used for hot extrusion processes with high production rate. However the design and manufacture of square dies mainly relies on experience of industrial engineers To overcome such difficulty this study develops a method of automatic generation of NC-codes for the manufacture of extrusion square dies. The result shows that the method can reduce the lead time for the design and manufacture of square dies as well as eliminating engineers ow experience.

  • Extruder is divided to greatly three part at extrusion process. First, by hopper(Hopper) second, barrel(Barrel) with Screw that is point of extruder and third that is raw material supply wealth extrusion into dies(DIES) Part that decide shape of do product greatly divide. Hopper is role that distribute in raw material supply wealth (Feeding zone) of Screw preserving raw material in state of high quality how at extrusion process, and make distributed raw material as Screw in barrel rotates and 3 stage and inflicting heat and pressure raw material melting(Melting) state. And raw material of melting state Screw's measuring stoker(Metering zone) whereabouts anaphora do and product is completed through pipe channel of dies. Dies that is the most important as Screw in extrusion is part that is last part of melting state process of raw material and causes huge effect in quality of product. If more than design of dies happens, manufacture itself of dies is hard, but there are a lot of amount of losses accordingly. In this research, make pipe channel that raw material of melting state flows in dies can present dies basic design method through flow analysis of ideal pipe channel using CFdesign.

  • The use of ceramics for extrusion dies is limited since the modification of die design is difficult. In order to successfully apply the ceramic dies to extrusion dies, a better understanding of the process should be preceded. This study focuses on understanding the characteristics of the process. In the present study, a hot extrusion of tube with a mandrel is analyzed by ALE finite element method. In order to obtain the stress state of ceraminc dies, the elastic analysis of dies is also carried out.

  • Square dies are widely used for hot extrusion processes with high production rate, however, the design and manufacture of square dies mainly relies on experience of industrial engineers. To overcome such difficulty, this study presents a method of automatic generation of NC-codes for the manufacture of extrusion square dies.   • To investigate the behavior of plastic deformation in axisymmetric extrusion through square dies, experimental works with the plasticine as a model material are carried out at the room temperature. Some mechanical properties of the model material are determined by compression and ring compression tests. Visioplasticity method using expermental grid distortion in extrusion is introduced to analyze the plastic flow strain rate and strain distribution. In spite of severe deformation during the extrusion through square die the visioplasticity method shows good results for the distribution of effective strain rate and effective strain.
