  • The extrusion process for long-length multi-filaments of BSCCO 2223 superconductor tape has been investigated with aids of Finite Element Method and experimental inspection. Since the arrangement of filaments in matrix material has characteristic of rotational symmetry, a 2-dimensional commercial FEM package, DEFORM-2D, was adopted to simulate extrusion process with different variables such as hardness of sheath material, lengths of each filament and arrangement. From the FEM analysis, since the inner filaments move faster than the outer one, distribution of filaments is needed to be optimized. In the case of pure Ag matrix, undesirable non-uniform distribution of filament was obtained due to low hardness of sheath material. Dummy sample(brass (sheath) and talc powder(filament)), however, which has relatively high hardness of sheath material, had been produced with desirable results. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize hardness of sheath material, extrusion temperature and billet design.

온간액압성형특성에 미치는 압출제조공정과 열처리 조건의 영향 (Effect of process type and heat treatment conditions on warm hydroformability)

  • In this study, hydroformability and mechanical properties of pre- and post- heat treated Al6061 tubes at different extrusion type were investigated. For the investigation, as-extruded, full annealed and T6-treated Al6061 tubes at different extrusion type were prepared. To evaluate the hydroformability, uni-axial tensile test and free bulge test were performed at room temperature and $250^{\circ}C$. Also mechanical properties of hydroformed part at various pre- and post-heat treatments were estimated by tensile test. And the tensile test specimens were obtained from hexagonal prototype hydroformed tube at $250^{\circ}C$. As for the heat treatment, hydroformability of full annealed tube is 25% higher than that of extruded tube. The tensile strength and elongation were more than 330MPa and 12%, respectively, when hydroformed part was post-T6 treated after hydroforming of pre- full annealed tube. However, hydroformed part using T6 pre treated tube represents high strength and low elongation, 8%. Therefore, the T6 treatment after hydroforming for as-extruded tube is cost-effective. Hydroformability of Al6061 tube showed similar value for both extrusion types. But flow stress of seam tube showed $20{\sim}50MPa$ lower value.

Reactive Extrusion of Starch-g-Polyacrylonitrile in the Preparation of Absorbent Materials

  • A new method for the graft polymerization of acrylonitrile onto starch is presented. Graft polymerization of acrylonitrile onto starch and the subsequent hydrolysis in sodium hydroxide solution to prepare absorbents is well known. This process has been utilized to produce the commercial product, Super Slurper. In a typical batch process, ~5% starch in water mixture is gelatinized at $95^{\circ}C$ under stirring for 1 hour then cooled to room temperature. The graft polymerization itself is carried out for approximately 2 hours at $25~30^{\circ}C$ on the gelatinized starch by eerie ion initiation. In this study, graft polymerization of acrylonitrile onto starch via a reactive extrusion process which is a continuous, efficient process is described. Initial concentration of starch in water is 35% and the reaction temperatures are between $50~80^{\circ}C$. However, the most significant difference in the reactive extrusion process is the short time in which the graft polymerization takes place. Preliminary results on the properties of graft polymerization products obtained from the reactive extrusion process are compared to those obtained from the batch process as well as the absorbency of the hydrolyzed samples. Absorbent material has also been prepared by sequential grafting and saponification in the extruder followed by a 2 hour heat treatment of the extrudate in an air circulated oven at $100^{\circ}C$.

단 측벽 구속하에서 압축 및 내압을 받는 고무 오링의 설계 민감도 연구 (A Study on Design Sensitivity of Elastomeric O-ring Squeezed and Highly Pressurized Under Laterally One-sided Constrained Condition)

  • Static or dynamic elastomeric O-ring seals are installed between joining parts, and play key roles of high pressure-tightening. Sealing performance and structural safety of the O-ring are dependent on groove design, plain diameter, squeeze and applications such as pressure and temperature. In this study, to solve O-ring problem squeezed and highly pressurized under laterally one-sided constrained condition, hyperelastic FE analyses are performed, and FE results are compared with measured ones by computer-aided tomography, deformed shape and extrusion depth of the O-ring. Through the comparisons, FE analysis technique was verified. In order to evaluate design sensitivity, Taguchi method was used to select FE analysis cases. Adjustment parameters are clearance gap, groove comer radius, plain diameter and squeeze. By means of verified FE analysis technique, it has been analysed how the parameters have effects on contact stress fields, internal stress fields, and extrusion depths. Sealing performance has been evaluated based on contact stress fields and contact widths, and structural safety on internal stress and strain, extrusion lengths.

  • Polypropylene(PP)과 polyethylene(PE) 분체를 혼합하여 공기정화용 여과재로 사용하기 위한 기공성 고분자 소재를 압출 소결법으로 제조하였다. PP와 PE로 구성된 기공성 고분자 소재는 녹는점이 낮은 PE가 용융되어 PP를 결합시킨 구조임을 주사전자현미경(scanning electron microscope) 분석으로 관찰할 수 있었으며, 고분자 소재의 압출 소결시 압출기 다이 헤드의 온도, 압출 속도, PE의 용융지수 및 첨가량 변화 등에 따른 기공성 고분자 소재의 기계적물성과 여과특성 변화를 시험하였다. 일정한 압출기 헤드 다이 온도와 압출 속도하에서 압출 소결법으로 제조된 기공성 고분자 소재의 여과효율이 PE의 첨가량과는 비례 관계를 나타내었으나 PE의 용융지수에는 반비례 관계를 나타냄을 관찰할 수 있었다. 압출 소결법으로 제조된 기공성 고분자 소재의 여과특성을 시험한 결과, PP와 PE로 구성된 기공성 고분자 소재가 공기정화용 여과재로 적용될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • This paper is concerned with the comparison of forging characteristics between forward and backward processes, through the three-dimensional finite element simulation, for the aluminum powder forging of engine pistons. Starting from the theoretical formulation of velocity and temperature fields in the sintered preform during the process, we examine the comparative distributions of relative density, effective stress and temperature as well as the variations of total forging load and total volume reduction. Through the comparative results, we find out that the forward method provides better forging characteristics than the backward method.

마그네슘 압출용 금형의 내마모성 향상을 위한 CrN, TiN 코팅 (CrN and TiN Coatings for the Wear Resistance of Extrusion Mold for Magnesium)

  • The friction and wear characteristics of CrN and TiN coatings on SKD61 which is mold material using for extrusion of AZ80 magnesium alloy were investigated. The coatings were deposited by the arc ion-plating method, and the thickness were about $3.59{\mu}m$ and $3.28{\mu}m$, respectively. Reciprocating friction wear tests were conducted by varying pin load and temperature of counter substrate at un-lubricated condition. The pin loads were 11, 15 and 19 kgf, and the substrate temperatures were room temperature and $120^{\circ}C$. CrN coating which has a lower friction coefficient and a smaller adhesive wear with AZ80 magnesium alloy showed better wear resistance than TiN coating.

Physical Properties of Graphite Nanofiber Filled Nylon6 Composites

  • This paper describes the physical properties of filled Nylon6 composites resin with nano-sized carbon black particle and graphite nanofibers prepared by melt extrusion method. In improving adhesions between resin and fillers, the surface of the carbon filler materials were chemically modified by thermo-oxidative treatments and followed by treatments of silane coupling agent. Crystallization temperature and rate of crystallization increased with increases in filler concentration which would act as nuclei for crystallization. The silane treatments on the filler materials showed effect of reduction in crystallization temperature, possibly from enhancement in wetting property of the surface of the filler materials. Percolation transition phenomenon at which the volume resistivity was sharply decreased was observed above 9 wt% of carbon black and above 6 wt% of graphite nanofiber. The graphite nanofibers contributed to more effectively in an increase in electrical conductivity than carbon black did, on the other hand, the silane coupling agent negatively affected to the electrical conductivity due to the insulating property of the silane. Positive temperature coefficient (PTC) phenomenon, was observed as usual in other composites, that is, temperature increase results conductivity increase. The dispersity of the fillers were excellently approached by melt extrusion of co-rotational twin screw type and it could be illustrated by X-ray diffraction and SEM.

나일론66/유리섬유 복합체의 압출횟수에 따른 특성 연구 (Study on the physical properties of nylon66/glass fiber composites as a function of extrusion number)

  • 나일론66/유리섬유 복합체의 경우 $300^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 사출가공 될 때 물성 저하가 일어날 수 있어, 재이용시 열이력에 대한 체계적인 연구가 필요하다. $305/290/273/268/265/260^{\circ}C$ 온도조건의 이축압출기(twin screw extruder)를 이용하여 나일론66/유리섬유 복합체의 압출시료를 압출횟수에 따라 제조하였다. 압출횟수에 따른 화학구조, 열적특성, 용융지수, 결정구조, 아이조드 충격강도 및 유변학적 특성을 FT-IR, 용융지수 측정기, DSC, TGA, XRD, Izod 시험기, 그리고 유변물성 측정기를 이용하여 분석하였다. 적외선분광 스펙트럼을 이용하여 확인한 결과 압출횟수에 따른 압출시편에서의 화학구조 변화는 확인되지 않았다. 압출횟수에 따라 분자량이 감소하는 것을 용융지수와 복소점도를 이용하여 확인하였다. 나일론66/유리섬유 복합체의 용융온도는 큰 변화가 없으나, 압출횟수 증가에 따라 분해온도가 $20^{\circ}C$ 정도까지 감소하는 것을 DSC와 TGA를 이용하여 확인하였다. 압출시편의 아이조드 충격강도는 압출횟수가 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 또한 나일론66/유리섬유 복합체 압출시편의 G'-G" 곡선의 기울기나 형태가 변하지 않는 것으로부터 압출시편에 가교와 같은 구조변화가 크게 나타나지 않음을 알 수 있었다.
