Pelletizing Performance of Food Waste Compost by An Extrusion Process (음식물퇴비의 압출에 의한 펠렛화 특성)

  • This study was performed to develop extrusion pelletizer for pelletizing the compost waste food. The effect of water content on the shape of pellet, the relationship between diameter of pellet and of extrusion hole and the relationship between extrusion force and die angle were investigated. Considering the stable shape of compost pellet and the operation efficiency of pelletizer, the water content of 2~4% was considered as the best condition. And the compost pellet could not maintain it's shape at the water content of 10% or over. The strongest extrusion force was needs when the die angle had $90^{\circ}C$ in 6 mm extrusion hole diameter, on the other hand, the weakest extrusion force was need at the die angle of $45^{\circ}{\sim}65^{\circ}$. The compression strength of pellet shows the highest strength of 9.2Mpa when we make the compost pellet after screening the compost and make it with a size of 1.18 mm(No.16) or less.

  • Recently, multi cell tube which is used for a cooling system of automobiles is mainly manufactured by the conform extrusion but this method is inferior as compared with direct extrusion in productivity per the unit time and in the equipment investment. Therefore, it is essential for the conversion of direct extrusion with porthole die. The direct extrusion with porthole die can produce multi cell tube which has the competitive power in costs and qualities compared with the existing conform extrusion. This study is designed to evaluate metal flow, welding pressure, extrusion load, tendency of mandrel deflection that is affected by variation of porthole shape in porthole die. Estimation is carried out using finite element method under the non-steady state. Also this study was examined into the cause of mandrel fracture through investigating elastic deformation of mandrel during the extrusion.

  • The design of the prestressed cold extrusion die with two stress rings has been performed in this study. The cold extrusion has been simulated by the rigid-plastic FEM. The stress analysis of die has been performed for both after shrink fitting and during extrusion by using the elastic FEM and the Lame's equation. According to the variation of interferences and diameter ratios, the maximum effective stress has been evaluated. As results, interferences and diameters were determined by the minimization of the maximum effective stress of die insert. The comparison of the maximum effective stress between the proposed design and the conventional design has been discussed. It was found that the maximum effective stress in the die insert is considerably affected by the stiffness of the first stress ring.

  • A design system of dies for hot extrusion of structural shapes such as Z' s, L' s, T' s, U' s and H' s from aluminum alloys was developed in this study. The developed design system of dies is based of established die design rule system. The design rules for die design are obtained from the handbooks, plasticity theories and relevant references. The environment of the system is AutoCAD and AutoLISP, the graphic programming language was used for the configuration of the system. This system includes five major modules such as section shape design module, die opening number module. die opening layout module, die correction module and die bearing design module that are used to determine design variables. This system would be used to design of dies for hot extrusion from aluminum alloys and widely used in manufacturing course..

  • Applications of commercial software DEFORM-3DTM for 3-D simulation in extrusion process are developed for the analysis of twisting of extruded products. Because the elliptical shape has at least one line symmetry, the twisting is not occured during the extrusion. But, the results of extrusion simulation of the elliptical shape show that the twisted boundary of the die surface makes the material inside die surface rotate with the constant angular velocity. Otherwise, the simulation results of the S shaped product show that the twisting can be occured by the only 180$^{\circ}$rotation symmetry of S shape without no line symmetry and show that the angular velocity increases by the only 180$^{\circ}$rotation symmetry without no twisted die surface between on the die entrance section and on the die exit section. The results of the analysis show that the angular velocity of the extruded product changes with die length and friction condition.

  • The twisting and extrusion process of the product with involute helical fin from the round billet is developed by the upper bound analysis. The twisting of extruded product is caused by the twisted die surface connecting the die entrance section and the die exit section linearly. In the analysis, the internal shear surface is defined as the curved twisted plane from the taisting of die surface and the shear work is calculated by the consumption of shear energy The increase rate of angular velocity is determined by the minimization of plastic work. The results of the analysis show that the angular velocity of the extruded product increases with the die twisting angle, the reduction of area, and decreases with the die length, the friction condition.

  • Porthole die extrusion is profitable to manufacture long tube with hollow section. The material through portholes is gathered within chamber and welded under high pressure. This weldability which classifies the quality of tube product is affected by several variables and die shape. But, porthole die extrusion has been executed on the experience of experts due to the complicated die assembly and complexity of metal flow. Analytic approaches that are useful in profitable die design and in the improvement of productivity are inevitably demanded. Therefore, the objective of this study is respectively to analyze the behavior of metal flow and to determine welding pressure of hot extrusion product according to the various billet temperature, bearing length and tube thickness by FE analysis and its results are compared with tube expanding tests.

  • This paper presents the plastic inhomogeneous deformation behavior of bimetal composite rods during the axisymmetric and steady-state extrusion process through a conical die. The rigid-plastic FE model considering frictional contact problem was used to analyze the co-extrusion process with material combinations of Cu/Al. Different cases of initial geometry shape for composite material were simulated under different conditions of co-extrusion process, which includes the interference and frictional conditions. The main design parameters influencing on deformation pattern are diameter ratio of the composite components and semi-die angle. Efforts are focused on the deformation patterns, velocity gradient, predicted forming load and the end distance through the various simulations. Simulation results indicate that there is an obvious difference of forming pattern with various diameter ratio and semi-die angle. The analysis in this paper is concentrated on the evaluation of the design parameters on the deformation pattern of composite rod.

  • A new approach for the design of extrusion die surface of arbitrarily shaped section is presented. In order to generate the extrusion die surface. an automatic surface construction method based on B-spline surface and scalar field theory is proposed. The isothermal lines and stream lines designed in the scalar field are introduced to find the control points which are used in constructing B-spline surfaces. Intersected points between the isothermal lines and stream lines are used to construct B-spline surfaces. The inlet and outlet profiles are precisely described with B-spline curves by using the centripetal method for uniform parameterization. The extrusion die surface is generated by using the cubic curve interpolation in the u- and v-directions. A quantitative measure for the control of surface is suggested by introducing the tangential vectors at the inlet and outlet sections. To verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, automatic surface generation is carried out for extrusion dies of arbitrarily shaped sections.
