The paper presents the state-of-the-art in aerodynamic performance of the modern horizontal axis wind turbine. The study examines the different complexities involved with wind turbine blade aerodynamic performance in open atmosphere and turbine wakes, and highlights the issues which require further investigations. Additionally, the latest concept of smart blades and frequently used wind turbine design analysis tools have also been discussed. The investigation made through this literature survey shows significant progress towards wind turbine aerodynamic performance improvements in general. However, still there are several parameters whose behavior and specific role in regulating the performance of the blades is yet to be elucidated clearly; in particular, the wind turbulence, rotational effects, coupled effect of turbulence and rotation, extreme wind events, formation and life time of the wakes.

In this paper, we present a Web-enabled product data sharing system for the support of RPD (Rapid Product Development) process by incorporating STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data) with Web technology such as VRML (Virtual Reality Markup Language), SGML (Structured Generalized Markup Language) and Java. Extreme competition makes product life cycle short by incessantly deprecating current products with a brand-new one, and thus urges enterprises to devise a new product faster than ever. In this environment, an RPD process with effective product data sharing system is essential to outstrip competitors by speeding up the development process. However, the diversity of product data schema and heterogeneous systems make it difficult to exchange the product data. We chose STEP as a neutral product data schema and Web as an independent exchange environment to overcome these problems. While implementing our system, we focused on the support of STEP AP 203 UoF (Units of Functionality) views to efficiently employ STEP data models that are maximally normalized, and therefore very cumbersome to handle. Our functionality-oriented UoF view approach can increase users'appreciation since it facilitates the modular usage of STEP data models. This can also enhance the accuracy of product data. We demonstrate that our view approach is applicable to the configuration control of mechanical assemblies.

High speed machining is one of the most effective technologies to improve productivity. It can give great advantage for manufacture of die and Moulds. However, when machining of micro groove in high speed machining a severely thermal damage was generated on workpiece and cutting tool. Generally, the cutting fluid is used to improve penetration. lubrication. and cooling effect. In order to rise the performance of lubrication. it contains extreme pressure agents (Cl, S, P). But the environment of work room go bad by those additive. Therefore, the compressed chilly air with oil mist system was developed to replace the conventional cutting fluid system. This paper carried out the tests to evaluate the machinability by the cutting environment in high speed micro groove machining of NAK80 (HrC40). Compressed chilly air with oil mist was ejected on the contact area between cutting edge and workpiece. The effect of this developed compressed chilly air with oil mist system was evaluated in terms of tool life. The results showed that the tool lift of carbide tool coated TiAlN with compressed chilly air mist cooling was much longer than that of the dry and flood coolant when cutting the material.
Objectives: To identify factors affecting the health of male professional soldiers. Methods: Cross-sectional questionnaire data was collected from a randomly stratified sample population of 763 officers and sergeants who were employed in 34 units in the Korean military. Data were statistically analyzed using Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: Work environment and personal health behavior were influential factors, which were differentiated by recent disease history including cardiovascular disease and self-rated health status. Sergeants in special forces/units or engaged in front-line military activities, and soldiers who were current smokers and heavy drinkers were more likely to have been diagnosed with a disease in the preceding three months. Those who were older, obese, and heavy drinkers were more likely to have cardiovascular disease than those who were less obese and more physical active. Soldiers exhibiting signs of extreme stress were more likely to poorly self-rate their health status. Conclusion: Health behaviors and characteristics of work environment significantly influence the health status among Korean professional soldiers. Health promotion strategies are needed to change individual heath behaviors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and work stress. A healthier working environment should also be promoted.
Radon and radon progeny being natural radioactive pollutants, seriously affect the health of uranium miners. Radon reduction by ventilation is an essential means to improve the working environment. Firstly, the relational model is built between the radon exhalation rate of the loose body and the ventilation parameters in the stope with radon percolation-diffusion migration dynamics. Secondly, the model parameters of radon exhalation dynamics are uncertain and described by triangular membership functions. The objective functions of the left and right equations of the radon exhalation model are constructed according to different possibility levels, and their extreme value intervals are obtained by the immune particle swarm optimization algorithm (IPSO). The fuzzy target and fuzzy constraint models of radon exhalation are constructed, respectively. Lastly, the fuzzy aggregation function is reconstructed according to the importance of the fuzzy target and fuzzy constraint models. The optimal control decision with different possibility levels and importance can be obtained using the swarm intelligence algorithm. The case study indicates that the fuzzy aggregation function of radon exhalation has an upward trend with the increase of the cut set, and fuzzy optimization provides the optimal decision-making database of radon treatment and prevention under different decision-making criteria.
This study selected optimal sites in Myeongsasimni located in west coast of Korea for stratigraphic research containing extreme climate event during quaternary period by spatio-temporal analyses of changes in sedimentary environment and land use employing 1918 topographic map, 2000 digital terrain map, 1976 and 2012 air photographies. The study area shows no significant changes in topographic characteristics that hilly areas with relatively large variations in elevation are distributed over north and south part of the study area, and sand dues are developed along the coast line. Moreover, flat low lying areas are located at the back side of the sand dues. The movement of surface run off and sediment loads shows two major trends of inland direction flow from back sides of sand dunes and outland direction flow from high terrains inland, and the two flows merge into the stream located in the center of the study area. Two sink with individual area of $0.2km^2$ are observed in Yongjeong-ri and Jaryong-ri which are located in south central part and south part of the study area, respectively. In addition, sea level change simulation reveals that $3.4km^2$ and $3.64km^2$ are inundated with 3 m of sea level rise in 1918 and 2000, respectively, and it would contribute to chase sea level change records preserved in stratigraphy. The inundated areas overlaps well with sink areas where it indicates the low lying areas located in south cental and south part of the study area are identical for sediment accumulation. The areas with minimal human impact on sediment records over last 100 years are $3.51km^2$ distributed over central and south part of the study area with the land use changes of mud and rice field in 1918 to rice field in 2012. The candidate sites of $0.15km^2$ in central part and $0.09km^2$ in south part are identified for preferable locations of geologic record of extreme climate events during quaternary period based on the overlay analysis of optimal sedimentary environment and land use changes.

In order to understand the spatio-temporal distribution of geochemical parametrs in surface sediments of the artificial Lake Shihwa in the vicinity of Kyunggi Hay in Korea, surface sediments were sampled at 14 sites in July 2007 and analyzed by CHN analyzer and ICP/MS. Metal concentrations in the sediments tended to be decreasing from the head to the mouth of the Lake Shihwa because of extreme pollutant discharge from various kinds of anthropogenic sources such as the Banweol and Shihwa Industrial Complex and cities. With the deposition of fine-grained sediments, high metal concentrations were also observed in the central part of lake. Although various programs(improvement of wastewater collection and treatment system, sea-lake water exchange etc) to improve the environmental conditions around the Lake Shihwa after dike construction were carried out, it was not dear to reach a good environmental quality. Therefore, further environmental programs should be conducted continuously for environmental improvement.

Deep-sea equipment such as underwater robots and unmanned submersible vehicles, include various machine components and sensors, and it is important that their reliabilities be tested before use in the fields. This is necessary because they are affected by complex extreme-environment conditions, such as high pressures, extreme temperatures, and tidal forces that are present in the deep sea. We require test equipment that can conduct empirical tests in conditions that mimic these complex oceanic environments. In this study, we propose specifications that should be met, and a design plan for the primary components, which should limit their use to a maximum water pressure of 2.0 MPa, water temperature of $5{\sim}60^{\circ}C$, and a maximum flow velocity of 2 m/s. in work-in type underwater combined environment test equipment and. We present test system development procedures to verify the reliability of products and systems used in deep-sea environments.

In LCD Display or semiconductor manufacturing processes, the anti-static technology of glass substrates and wafers becomes one of the most difficult issues which influence the yield of the semiconductor manufacturing. In order to overcome the problems of wafer surface contamination various issues such as ionization in decompressed vacuum and inactive gas(i.e. $N_2$ gas, Ar gas, etc.) environment should be considered. Soft X ray radiation is adequate in air and $O_2$ gas at atmospheric pressure while UV radiation is effective in $N_2$ gas Ar gas and at reduced pressure. At this point of view, the "vacuum ultraviolet ray ionization" is one of the most suitable methods for static elimination. The vacuum ultraviolet can be categorized according to a short wavelength whose value is from 100nm to 200nm. this is also called as an Extreme Ultraviolet. Most of these vacuum ultraviolet is absorbed in various substances including the air in the atmosphere. It is absorbed substances become to transit or expose the electrons, then the ionization is initially activated. In this study, static eliminator based on the vacuum ultraviolet ray under the above mentioned environment was tested and the results show how the ionization performance based on vacuum ultraviolet ray can be optimized. These vacuum ultraviolet ray performs better in extreme atmosphere than an ordinary atmospheric environment. Neutralization capability, therefore, shows its maximum value at $10^{-1}{\sim}10^{-3}$ Torr pressure level, and than starts degrading as pressure is gradually reduced. Neutralization capability at this peak point is higher than that at reduced pressure about $10^4$ times on the atmospheric pressure and by about $10^3$ times on the inactive gas. The introductions of these technology make it possible to perfectly overcome problems caused by static electricity and to manufacture ULSI devices and LCD with high reliability.
Damage from typhoon disaster can be mitigated by grasping and dealing with the damage promptly for the regions in typhoon track. What is this work, a technique to analyzed dangerousness of typhoon should be presupposed. This study estimated 10 m level wind speed using 700 hPa wind by typhoon, referring to GPS dropwindsonde study of Franklin(2003). For 700 hPa wind, 30 km resolution data of Regional Data Assimilation Prediction System(RDAPS) were used. For roughness length in estimating wind of 10 m level, landuse data of USGS are employed. For 10 m level wind speed of Typhoon Rusa in 2002, we sampled AWS site of $7.4{\sim}30km$ distant from typhoon center and compare them with observational data. The results show that the 10 m level wind speed is the estimation of maximum wind speed which can appear in surface by typhoon and it cannot be compared with general hourly observational data. Wind load on domestic buildings relies on probability distributions of extreme wind speed. Hence, calculated 10 m level wind speed is useful for estimating the damage structure from typhoon.
