A Study on Extracting News Contents from News Web Pages (뉴스 웹 페이지에서 기사 본문 추출에 관한 연구)

  • The news pages provided through the web contain unnecessary information. This causes low performance and inefficiency of the news processing system. In this study, news content extraction methods, which are based on sentence identification and block-level tags news web pages, was suggested. To obtain optimal performance, combinations of these methods were applied. The results showed good performance when using an extraction method which applied the sentence identification and eliminated hyperlink text from web pages. Moreover, this method showed better results when combined with the extraction method which used block-level. Extraction methods, which used sentence identification, were effective for raising the extraction recall ratio.

  • Recently, since the demand of rare earth permanent magnet for high temperature applications such as an electric motor has increased, dysprosium (Dy), a heavy rare earth element, is becoming important due to severe bias in its production. To fulfill the increasing need of Dy, recycling offers as a promising alternative. In recycling of rare earths, Hydro-metallurgical extraction method is mainly used however it has adverse environmental effects. Liquid metal extraction on the other hand, is an eco-friendly and simple method as far as the reduction of rare earth metal oxide is concerned. Therefore, liquid metal extraction was studied in this research as an alternative to the hydro-metallurgical recycling method. Magnesium (Mg) is selected as solvent metal because it doesn't form intermetallic compounds with Fe, B and has a low melting and low boiling point. Extraction behavior of Dy in (Nd,Dy)-Fe-B magnet is observed and effect of Mg ratio on extraction of Dy is confirmed.

  • This paper introduces a new local feature extraction method and image matching method for the localization and classification of targets. Proposed method is based on the block-by-block projection associated with directional pattern of blocks. Each pattern has its own eigen-vertors called as CEBs(Classified Eigen-Blocks). Also proposed block-based image matching method is robust to translation and occlusion. Performance of proposed feature extraction and matching method is verified by the face localization and FLIR-vehicle-image classification test.

Improved Method for the Preparation of Crude Ginseng Saponin (인삼 조사포닌의 조제 방법 개선)

  • This stuffy was carried to establish a new efficient method for the preparation of edible crude ginseng saponin. The conventional butanol extraction and resin adsorption methods were compared for the contents of total crude ginseng saponin and major ginsenosides. Seventy- percent methanol extract was applied to Diaion HP-20 column and the resin was washed with Hn and eluted with absolute methanol. The methanol elute was dried in vivo and analyzed for its ginsenosides. Use of ethanol instead of methanol to make edible crude ginseng saponin gave a similar result. Butanol extraction was performed by the conventional method. The final aqueous layer from butanol extraction was passed through Diaion HP-20 column followed by elution with methanol and Diaion HP-20 passed fraction was extracted with butanol to recover remaining components, respectively, in order to determine saponin loss. TLC and HPLC qualitatively and quantitatively monitored Ginsenosides, respectively. Loss of ginsenosides was higher in butanol extraction method than in Diction HP-20 adsorption method. In addition, saponin fractions prepared by Diction HP-20 adsorption method showed higher content of each ginsenoside, showing 8.2% higher purity than that of butanol extracted fraction. From these results, we propose the resin adsorption method as a new efficient measure for the preparation of crude ginseng saponin, which is edible by using spirit instead of methanol.

Improvement of Total Chrolophill Analytical Methods for the Chlorella Products with Extended Products Types (신 제형 클로렐라제품의 총 엽록소 시혐법 개선)

  • A new and improved analytical method involving alkaline pyridine extraction was proposed to quantity chlorophyll contents in syrup and candy type chlorella products. The performance of analytical method was compared with the conventional Korea food standard method which involves acetone extraction. The application of sonication chlorophyll extraction form alkaline pyridine sample was also explored. The analytical procedure was validated by evaluating accuracy, precision and reproducibility. For liquid samples, the pyridine extraction method showed higher accuracy and precision compared to acetone extraction method. The CV values of pyridine extract method and the acetone extraction method were 18.82 and 40.0, and the accuracy to theoretical values were 106.3% and 78.1%, respectively. When sonication extraction method was applied to the pyridine extraction, the precision was improved as indicated by reduced CV values from 18.82 to 11.36. The improved performance of pyridine-sonication extraction was also validated by recovery test of chlorophyll that was previously spiked into the sample matrix. For solid matrix, the pyridine extraction method showed better performance in analysis of chlorophyll in solid food matrix (CV = 7.05) compared to conventional acetone extraction method (CV = 30.0). However, the accuracy to theoretical values of pyridine and acetone extraction methods only showed only 62.7% an 40%, respectively. The relatively low accuracy of pyridine extraction method (62.7%) was improved to 99.4% by applying additional sonication extraction method. The improved performance of applying additional sonication extraction was validated by standard deviation, CV values and accuracy to theoretical values.

Evaluation of DNA Extraction Methods from Low Copy Number (LCN) DNA Samples for Forensic DNA Typing

  • DNA isolation for PCR-based short tandem repeat (STR) analysis is essential to recover high yields of amplifiable DNA from low copy number (LCN) DNA samples. There are different methods developed for DNA extraction from the small bloodstain and gloves, commonly found at crime scenes. In order to obtain STR profiles from LCN DNA samples, DNA extraction protocols, namely the automated $iPrep^{TM}$ $ChargeSwitch^{(R)}$ method, the automated $QIAcube^{TM}$ method, the automated $Maxwell^{(R)}$ 16 DNA $IQ^{TM}$ Resin method, and the manual $QIAamp^{(R)}$ DNA Micro Kit method, were evaluated. Extracted DNA was quantified by the $Quantifiler^{TM}$ Human DNA Quantification Kit and DNA profiled by $AmpFISTR^{(R)}$ $Identifiler^{(R)}$ Kit. Results were compared based on the amount of DNA obtained and the completeness of the STR profiles produced. The automated $iPrep^{TM}$ $ChargeSwitch^{(R)}$ and $QIAcube^{TM}$ methoas produced reproducible DNA of sufficient quantity and quality trom the dried blood spot. This two automated methods showed a quantity and quality comparable to those of the forensic manual standard protocols normally used in our laboratory. In our hands, the automated DNA extraction method is another obvious choice when the forensic case sample available is bloodstain. The findings of this study indicate that the manual simple modified $QIAamp^{(R)}$ DNA Micro Kit method is best method to recover high yields of amplifiable DNA from the numerous potential sources of LCN DNA samples.

A Study on the Research of Analytical Method for 1,4-Dioxane in Water (1,4-Dioxane의 분석방법 연구)

  • The study was carried out to develop and standardize the analytical method of 1,4-dioxane in water. The National Institute of Environmental Research in Korea has monitored for 1,4-dioxane in water since 1998 and it has been detected in environmental water occasionally. But the environmental pollution and analytical method in water is not well known over the world. The trace analytical method at low-${\mu}/L$ level is prerequisite in order to evaluate the residue of 1,4-dioxane in water. Evaluation of the method was demonstrated by comparing and analyzing with liquid-liquid extraction, solid-phase extraction and purge & trap technique. As a result of experiment by standard solutions and raw samples, the precision and accuracy for three methods were obtained within error rate of about 10%. Therefore, three methods were standardized as official monitoring method in Korea. Also, a convenient and simple liquid-liquid extraction method for the analysis of 1,4-dioxane in water was developed by combined with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and applied to the water samples in Korea

An Experimental Study on Multi-Document Summarization for Question Answering (질의응답을 위한 복수문서 요약에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This experimental study proposes a multi-document summarization method that produces optimal summaries in which users can find answers to their queries. In order to identify the most effective method for this purpose, the performance of the three summarization methods were compared. The investigated methods are sentence clustering, passage extraction through spreading activation, and clustering-passage extraction hybrid methods. The effectiveness of each summarizing method was evaluated by two criteria used to measure the accuracy and the redundancy of a summary. The passage extraction method using the sequential bnb search algorithm proved to be most effective in summarizing multiple documents with regard to summarization precision. This study proposes the passage extraction method as the optimal multi-document summarization method.

Yield Comparisons of Different Methods of Waxy Fraction Extraction from Grain Sorghum

  • Three solvent extraction techniques were used to recover waxy tractions from grain sorghum kernels. Yield and chemical composition of the waxy tractions obtained by reflux, bench scale (recirculated solvent), and countercurrent extraction methods were compared. Waxy traction yield from countercurrent extraction (0.200%) was significantly greater (p<0.05) than the yields of wax from both reflux (0.184%) and bench-scale (0.179%) methods. The waxy traction extracted using the bench-scale method showed the greatest relative amount of long-chained (primarily C:28 and C:30) alcohols while the countercurrent-extracted wax showed the greatest relative amount of long-chained fatty acids and fatty aldehydes. Countercurrent extraction removed a higher additive percentage of fatty aldehydes, acids, and alcohols than reflux or bench-scale extraction method.

  • A fast cell contour extraction method using CUDA parallel processing technique is presented. The cell contour extraction is one of important processes to analyze cell information in pathology. However, conventional sequential contour extraction methods are slow for a huge high-resolution medical image, so they are not adequate to use in the field. We developed a parallel morphology operation algorithm to extract cell contour more quickly. The algorithm can create an inner contour and fail to extract the contour from the concave part of the cell. We solved these problems by subdividing the contour extraction process into four steps: morphology operation, labeling, positioning and contour extraction. Experimental results show that the proposed method is four times faster than the conventional one.
