  • We tested the char characteristics of fire retardant treated Douglas fir at each of five constant external irradiance levels $(10,\;15,\;20,\;25\;및\;35kW/m^2)$. A Cone heater was used to expose the wood specimens to the heat flux. The size of specimens is 100- by 100- by 50-mm and the kinds of specimens are non-treated wood(N) and treated wood(F2 and f4) by water soluble fire retardants. The water-soluble fire retardants were made from mixture of aqueous solutions of monoammonium phosphate, sodium borate and zinc borate, and those are used for immersion of Douglas fir. In result of test, char fraction of fire retardant treated Douglas fir showed a considerably low char fraction than it of non-treated wood irrespective of increase of external heat flux. And char fractions has low levels with increase of fire retardant content. Burning rate of non-treated wood(N) was showed a relatively high burning rate than it of fire retardant treated wood(F2 and F4). And difference of burning rate shown more rapidly in high external irradiance than low external irradiance. When the external heat flux is $35kW/m^2$, average char rate of non-treated wood is rapidly about twice than fire retardant treated wood. Water-soluble fire retardants mixed in this study find out it has fire suppression and adiabatic effect by char layer from results of char fraction, burning rate, and char depth and rate.

  • The objective of this study is to determine the effect of soy protein isolate (SPI) film coating on the color, firmness, viscosity and weight loss of Rice Cake stored at 15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$ (RH 50%) for 30 days. Raw materials mixed with SPI and cocoa powder (10:0, 7:3, 5:5, 3:7, w/w) were prepared. After adding sugar and shortening to raw materials, the mixture were refined to 25 micron of particle size. Coating of Rice Cake were carried out at $65^{\circ}C$. SPI coated Rice Cake had higher internal and external firmness comparing to the control at $25^{\circ}C$. SPI coated Rice Cake showed smooth surface morphology and had 0.71-1.01 mm of thickness. SPI coated Rice Cake showed less weight loss for 30 days compared to controls. SPI coating solution was successfully coated on Rice Cake and extended shelf-life over 15 days at room temperature.

  • The autoignition temperature (AIT) of a material is the lowest temperature at which the substance will spontaneously ignite in the absence of an external ignition source such as a spark or flame. The AIT may be used as combustion property to specify operating, storage, and materials handling procedures for processs safety. This study measured the AITs of n-Propanol+n-Decane system from ignition delay time(time lag) by using ASTM E659 apparatus. The AITs of n-Propanol and n-Decane which constituted binary system were $435^{\circ}C$ and $212^{\circ}C$, respectively. The experimental AITs of n-Propanol+n-Decane system were a good agreement with the calculated AITs by the proposed equations with a few A.A.D(average absolute deviation).

  • It is critical to assess the characteristics of flame response to pressure perturbations for the understanding of nonlinear combustion instabilities. Previous studies can be grouped into flame response upon perturbed, fresh air and fuel mixture, and flame response directly perturbed from longitudinal waves. The present study presents experimental methodology for the understanding of the flame response exposed to transverse acoustic waves generated by loud speakers.

  • A polymeric film of a biodegradable poly(1,5-dioxepan-2-one) (PDXO) was formed on a gold surface by a combination of the formation of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) presenting hydroxyl groups and the surface-initiated, ring-opening polymerization (SI-ROP) of 1,5-dioxepan-2-one (DXO). The SI-ROP of DXO was achieved by heating a mixture of $Sn(Oct)_2$, DXO, and the SAM-coated substrate in anhydrous toluene at $55^{\circ}C$. The resulting PDXO film was quite uniform. The PDXO film was characterized by polarized infrared external reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, and contact angle goniometry.

  • RF biased inductively coupled plasma (ICP) has been widely used in various semiconductor etching processes and laboratory plasma researches. However, almost researches for the RF bias have been focused on the controls of dc self-bias voltages, even though the RF bias can change plasma parameters, such as electron temperature, plasma density, electron energy distribution (EED), and their spatial distributions. In this study, we report on the effect of the RF bias on the plasma parameters and the EEDs with various external parameters, such the RF bias power, the ICP power, the gas pressure, the gas mixture, and the frequency of RF bias. Our study shows the correlation between the RF bias and the plasma parameters and gives a crucial key for the understanding of collisionless electron heating mechanism in the RF biased ICP.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to make clear the symbolism expressed by the gorgeous costume elements in the portraits of Elizabeth 1. After English paintings in 16th century and the Portraits of Elizabeth I being investigated in view of its characteristics, the symbolism in the costume of the portraits was studied in analysis. The flowers, the pearls and the sieve denoting a pure virgin predominantly appeared, snake for discretion and wisdom, phoenix for eternal youth and renewal, pelican for motherhood, and eyes and ears for almightiness and sound judgement as an utmost power was found. The color was mainly of black or white and sometimes of these two mixtures. The white means a purity and black, eternity and the mixture of them signifies a virtue of purity. This thesis may help people understand the gorgeous costume of Elizabeth 1. not as an external extravagance, but as an internal emblem or signs delivering its specific significance.

  • Current investigation deals with the thermal stability characteristics of carbon nanotube reinforced composite beams (CNTRC) on elastic foundation and subjected to external uniform temperature rise loading. The single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are supposed to have a distribution as being uniform or functionally graded form. The material properties of the matrix as well as reinforcements are presumed to be temperature dependent and evaluated through the extended rule of mixture which incorporates efficiency parameters to capture the size dependency of the nanocomposite properties. The governing differential equations are achieved based on the minimum total potential energy principle and Euler-Bernoulli beam model. The obtained results are checked with the available data in the literature. Numerical results are supplied to examine the effects of numerous parameters including length to thickness ratio, elastic foundations, temperature change, and nanotube volume fraction on the thermal stability behaviors of FG-CNT beams.

  • The 8-methoxypsoralen$<^{4',5'}_{5',6}>$ thymidine monoadducts are isolated from the irradiation mixture of 8-methoxypsoralen and thymidine in a dry film state by a flash column followed by lobar column chromatography. Some physical properties of the adducts were determined. The fluorescence maximum and quantum yield of the monoadduct are dependent on the solvent polarity and the phosphorescence to fluorescence quantum yield ratio was 2.10 which was significantly increased by external heavy atoms. The phosphorescence lifetime was 1.2s which is relatively large compared to other coumarin derivatives. Accurate spectral data of the monoadducts are presented.

  • Resently, the use of smart structures has been heightened up rapidly. For this issue, vibration analysis related to a graphene nanoplatelet composite (GPLRC) nanodisk which is attached to a piezoelectric layer and is subjected to thermal loads is explored in the current paper. The formulation of this study is obtained through the energy method and nonlocal strain gradient theory, and then it is solved employing generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM). Halpin-Tsai model in addition to the mixture's rule are utilized to capture the material properties related to the reinforced composite layer. The compatibility conditions are presented for exhibiting the perfect bounding between two layers. The results of this study are validated by employing the other published articles. The impact of such parameters as external voltage, the radius ratio, temperature difference, and nonlocality on the vibrational frequency of the system is investigated in detail.
