  • This study is focused on the welding performance of automatic gas pressure welding machine adapted to korean construction site by external appearance investigation. As gas pressure welding is more economical and has good performances compared with other steel bar jointing methods, as arc welding and mechanical joint etc, in Japan, the gas pressure welding is one of the typical connection of steel reinforcement when connecting the D29 and thicker steel bars, But in Korea, gas pressure welding joint method is not widely used caused by the shortage of skilled workers. so to activate the gas pressure welding in Korea, the automatic gas pressure welding machine is developed. In this study, the welding performances of gas pressure welding joint samples using korean automatic gas pressure welding machine are measured by external appearance investigation - blown diameters, blown length, welding face disagreement, central axis eccentric ratio, bending, sag and crack. The results of welding performances on the gas pressure welding joint samples show that samples are satisfied with the standard value regulated in KS D 0244 and JIS Z 3120.

  • In this study, Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor(AnMBR) treating food waste leachate was operated to investigate treatment efficiency of anaerobic process, operational parameters and production of biogas. AnMBR was operated under the condition of filtration type of inside-out mode. AnMBR was operated under the condition that range of permeate flux was from 15 to 20 LMH and range of transmembrane pressure was from 1 to $3 kgf/cm^2$. It was not good that AnMBR was performed under direct connection between anaerobic reactor and external UF module. so, this connection method changed to indirect connection using buffer tank was placed between anaerobic reactor and UF external module. TCOD and SCOD values were that influent were about 113 g/L, 62 g/L and effluent were 25 g/L, 12 g/L, respectively. also TCOD and SCOD removal efficiency were 77% and 81%, respectively. but after added UF process, COD and SCOD removal efficiency was increased to 93% and 86%, respectively.

  • In this paper, a PV multi-string PCS with a grid-connection is proposed. An improved MPPT algorithm for the PV multi-string PCS is suggested. Each PV string has its own MPP tracker and the proposed MPPT algorithm prevents LMPP tracking due to power ripple. In the PV PCS with single-phase inverter has a large current ripple at twice the grid frequency. The current ripple reduction algorithm without external component is suggested. Also, this paper proposes a simple control method to achieve sharing of the PV string voltage and current among the interleaved parallel boost converters. All algorithms and controllers are implemented on a single-chip microcontroller. Experimental results obtained on a 3kW prototype show high performance of the proposed PV multi-string PCS.

  • Bolted joint connection is the most commonly used connection element in structures and devices. The loosening due to external dynamic loads cannot be observed and measured easily and may cause catastrophic loss especially in an extreme requirement and/or environment. In this paper, an innovative Real-time Cross-Correlation Method (RCCM) for monitoring of the bolted joint loosening was proposed. We apply time reversal process on stress wave propagation to obtain correlation signal. The correlation signal's peak amplitude represents the cross-correlation between the loosening state and the baseline working state; therefore, it can detect the state of loosening. Since the bolt states are uncorrelated with noise, the peak amplitude will not be affected by noise and disturbance while it increases SNR level and increases the measured signals' reliability. The correlation process is carried out online through physical wave propagation without any other post offline complicated analyses and calculations. We implemented the proposed RCCM on a single bolt/nut joint experimental device to quantitatively detect the loosening states successfully. After that we implemented the proposed method on a real large structure (reaction wall) with multiple bolted joint connections. Loosening indexes were built for both experiments to indicate the loosening states. Finally, we demonstrated the proposed method's great anti-noise and/or disturbance ability. In the instrumentation, we simply mounted Lead Zirconium Titanate (PZT) patches on the device/structure surface without any modifications of the bolted connection. The low-cost PZTs used as actuators and sensors for active sensing are easily extended to a sensing network for large scale bolted joint network monitoring.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the behavior and the strength of SRG (Steel Reinforced Grout) externally strengthened Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams by using a nonlinear numerical analysis. The numerical simulation was carried out by using a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model. An interface element with a suitable damage model was used to model the connection between concrete surface and SRG reinforcing layer. The reliability of the finite element 3D-model was checked using experimental data obtained on a set of three RC beams. The parameters taken into consideration were the external configuration, with or without U-end anchorages, the concrete strength, the amount of internal tensile steel reinforcement. Conclusions were made concerning the strength and the ductility of the strengthened beams by varying the parameters and on the effectiveness of the SRG reinforcing system applied with two types of external strengthening configuration.

  • We address the problem of corrective control for two asynchronous sequential machines in parallel connection. Each asynchronous machine receives the same external input and shows independent state transition characteristics. We propose a novel control scheme in which only one corrective controller is employed so as to make the closed-loop system of each machine match the behavior of the corresponding reference model. Compared with the former method utilizing two corrective controllers, our scheme can reduce the controller size and computational load in controller design. We present the existence condition and design procedure for a state-feedback corrective controller under the assumption that the controlled machines are of input/state type. The design procedure for the proposed controller is described in an illustrative example.

  • Global or partial damage to a structure due to the failure of gravity or lateral load-bearing elements is called progressive collapse. In the present study, the alternate load path (ALP) method introduced by GSA and UFC 4-023-03 guidelines is used to evaluate the progressive collapse in special steel moment-resisting frame (SMRF) buildings. It was assumed that the progressive collapse is due to the earthquake force and its effects after the removal of the elements still remain on the structures. Therefore, nonlinear dynamic time history analysis employing 7 earthquake records is used to investigate this phenomenon. Internal and external column removal scenarios are investigated and the stiffness of the connections is changed from semi-rigid to rigid. The results of the analysis performed in the OpenSees program show that the loss of the bearing capacity of an exterior column due to a seismic event and the occurrence of progressive collapse can increase the inter-story drift of the structure with semi-rigid connections by more than 50% and make the structure unable to satisfy the life safety performance level. Furthermore, connection stiffness severely affects the redistribution of forces and moments in the adjacent elements of the removed column.

  • The goal of this paper is to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of concrete-filled tubular column to H-beam connections with external T-stiffener through the finite element method and to offer basic data for the design of T-stiffener. To identify the problems of previous test results, the same shapes of the full-scale test specimens were modeled for the finite element analysis. Results of the analysis were compared with the test results. Several stress and strain indices were used to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of connection with various T-stiffeners parameters. The models of analysis with different T-stiffener are grouped into TS, TSD, and TSH series. An alternative plan that decreases the stress concentration of beam flange to horizontal stiffener connection is proposed through the elasto-plastic finite element method. The basic design idea and minimum sizes of T-stiffener were proposed based on the various indices in relation to the connection details.

  • We propose a new learning method of recurrent neural networks as an effort to solve local minima problem. In this method the network with fixed connection weights is run for a given period time under given time-variant external inputs and initial conditions. The weights are changed in the direction that the total error is maximally decreased by using the steepest gradient method. If the obtained error is not sufficiently small even after iterating this procedure, additional feedback connections are introduced. Then, the external input signal is redefined. And we execute experiments on the recognition of Korean spoken digits as an application of the proposed network.
