  • In this paper, the calculation of the theoretical pressure transfer ratio due to the deformation of the thin-plate spring type check valve applied to the small piezoelectric-hydraulic pump was carried out. A thin-plate check valve is a flexible body that is deformed by an external force. The deformation of the check valve affects the rate at which the chamber pressure is transferred to the load pressure. The theoretical pressure transfer ratio for each model was calculated to compare the difference between the assumption that the thin-plate check valve is a rigid body and that of the flexible body model. The P-delta effect was considered for the calculation of the pressure transfer ratio of the flexible check valve model. In addition, a verification test for the calculated pressure transfer ratio obtained by considering the deformation of the flexible check valve model was carried out. The load pressure was measured by applying a thin-plate and ball-thin plate spring type check valves, respectively. The experimental pressure transfer ratio was calculated using the respective load pressure obtained from the experiments. The validity of the pressure transfer analysis of the check valve, taking into consideration the P-delta effect, was verified by comparing it with the theoretically calculated pressure transfer ratio.

  • In recent years, many high-rise buildings have been constructed in irregular structural system with inclined columns, which may have effect on the structural behavior of beam-column joints. Since the external load leads to shear and flexural forces on the inclined columns in different way from those on the conventional vertical columns, failure mode, resistant strength, and ductility capacity of the inclined column-beam joints may be different than those of the perpendicular beam-column joints. In this study, six RC inclined beam-column joint specimens were tested. The main parameter of the specimens was the angle between axes of the column and beam (90, 67.5, and 45 degree). Test results indicated that the structural behavior of conventional perpendicular beam-column joint was different to that of the inclined beam-column joints, due to different loading conditions between inclined and perpendicular beam-column joints. Both upper and lower columns of perpendicular beam-column joints were subjected to compressive force, while the upper and lower columns of the inclined beam-column joints were subjected to tensile and compressive forces, respectively.

  • Using isogeometric analysis(IGA) gives more accurate results for higher order mode in eigenvalue problem than using the finite element method(FEM). This is because the FEM has $C^0$ continuity between elements, whereas IGA guarantee $C^{P-1}$ between elements for p-th order basis functions. In this paper, a mode based reduced model is constructed by using IGA and dynamic behavior analysis is performed using this advantage. Craig-Bampton(CB) method is applied to construct the reduced model. Several numerical examples were performed to compare the eigenvalue analysis results for various order of element basis function by applying the IGA and FEM to simple rod analysis. We have confirmed that numerical error increases in the higher order mode as the continuity between elements decreases in the IGA by allowing internal knots multiplicity. The accuracy of the solution can be improved by using the IGA with high inter-element continuity when high-frequency external force acts on the reduced model for dynamic behavior analysis.

  • This study selected five observational stations in the normal direction of Jinu-do(island) shoreline and observed water temperature, electrical conductivity and pressure from March, 2012 to January, 2013(about 11 months) and attempted to see the variation characteristics of ground watertable. This study wants to know : 1) External environment force factors(tide, climate, wave etc.) affecting ground watertable variation through time series and correlation analysis. 2) Spatial variations of ground watertable and electrical conductivity change by storm event. First, we found that the station at the intertidal zone was strongly affected by wave and tide level and the stations at sand dune and vegetation zone was affected by precipitation and tide level through time series data and correlation analysis. Second, during the storm event, we found that ground watertable and electrical conductivity are stabilized at the start line of sand dune and vegetation zone and transition zone between freshwater layer and seawater layer exists in the experiment area and is about 50~70 m from coastline of the south side of Jinu-do(island).

  • Sophisticated polymeric materials with 'responsive' properties are beginning to reach the market. The use of reversible, noncovalent interactions is a recurring design principle for responsive materials. Recently developed hydrogen-bonding units allow this design principle to be taken to its extreme. Supramolecular polymers, where hydrogen bonds are the only force keeping the monomers together, form materials whose (mechanical) properties respond strongly to a change in temperature or solvent. In this review, we describe some examples of hydrogen-bonded supramolecular polymers that can be utilized for self-healing materials. Synthesis of a rubber-like material that can be recycled might not seem exciting. But one that can also repeatedly repair itself at room temperature, without adhesives, really stretches the imagination. Autonomic healing materials respond without external intervention to environmental stimuli in a nonlinear and productive fashion, and have great potential for advanced engineering systems.

  • The adhesion reliability of the epoxy molding compound (EMC) and the printed circuit board (PCB) interface is critical to the quality and lifetime of the chip package since the EMC protects PCB from the external environment during the manufacturing, storage, and shipping processes. It is necessary to measure adhesion energy accurately to ensure product reliability by optimizing the manufacturing process during the development phase. This research deals with the measurement of EMC/PCB interfacial adhesion energy of chip package that has warpage induced by the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) mismatch. The double cantilever beam (DCB) test was conducted to measure adhesion energy, and the spring back force of specimens with warpage was compensated to calculate adhesion energy since the DCB test requires flat substrates. The result was verified by comparing the adhesion energy of flat chip packages come from the same manufacturing process.

  • To evaluate the influence of the external force components on the littoral currents in the Gusipo beach, Jeonbuk, West Coast of Korea where a wide tidal sand flat developed, a coupled hydrodynamic model considered real time tidal currents and wave-induced currents was constructed in which the EFDC for tides and tidal currents, the SWAN for waves and the SHORECIRC for wave-induced currents were used as the hindcasting models. A series of field observations for tides, tidal currents and incident waves were carried out and especially to observe the littoral currents in the tidal sand flat, the GPS mounted and light weight drogues were used. Also wind data were collected from the adjacent weather station. To analyze the littoral current components, the numerical drogue tracking results considered real time winds, tides and waves were compared with the field drogue data. The drift speed of numerical drogues was reproduced as the range of 68.0~105.2% compared with the field data and the velocity error of main direction component showed a good result as -16.7~10.0%. As a result, in the mild slope tidal flat including wide surf zone, the tides and winds were the major affection component of the littoral currents, on the other hand, the wave-induced currents seemed the minor component when the incident wave heights were relatively small.

  • The service that has been recognized as both a non-productive activity and auxiliary activity of manufacturing have become the driving force of the customers' demand with the 'service' itself. The service base is expanding and evolving rapidly. It is important to look at changes in service concepts to understand service systems. Because the service system itself has a cyclic nature based on the concept of service, it can help in the study and the "how" of service by looking at changing the system according to the evolution of the service concept. The ability to organize and utilize relationships is considered to be an important factor for managers in the service economy era. However, the attention of corporate is focused on their internal capabilities and they are familiar with external resources (knowledge and competence of customers). In this case study for each type of service, we analyzed the activities of interacting service providers-consumers in service relationship, and constructed a new service system model emphasizing intangible value and long-term outcome. This study is worth re-examining the role of customers in today's service economy era and actively utilizing a new service model for business performance.

  • The grain size of clastic sedimentary rocks classifies the rock types and also causes of anisotropy of the rock. The anisotropy is one of the most important factors that dominates the strength and weathering behavior of rocks. The anisotropy of clastic sedimentary and igneous rocks in the Gyeongsang Basin including Yeongju, Daegu, and Busan were analyzed by magnetic susceptibility expressed by the degree of anisotropy and shape parameter. As the results of the study, the sandstone deposited under lacustrine environment unaffected by the external force shows 1.03 degree of anisotropy. The degrees of anisotropy of the rocks affected by faults and fault rocks show 1.06 and 1.14, respectively. The magnetic susceptibility of rocks is to decrease with the distance from the fault. A fresh mudstone and shale formed by fines show a similar magnitude of the degree of anisotropy to fault rock and correspond to oblate shape parameter due to their sedimentary structure. Due to these reasons, we need attention in design, construction, and maintenance of a structure constructed in mudstone and shale.
