  • The domestic innovative power reactor named iPOWER will employ the passive molten corium cooling system(PMCCS) to cool down and stabilize the core melt in the severe accident. The final design concept of the PMCCS is yet to be determined, but the in-vessel retention through external reactor vessel cooling has been also considered as a viable strategy to cope with the severe accident. In this study, the two-phase natural circulation flow established between the reactor vessel and the insulation was simulated using a thermal-hydraulic system code, MARS-KS. The flow path of cooling water was modeled with one-dimensional nodes, and the boundary condition of the heat load from the molten core was defined to estimate the naturally-driven flow rate. The evolution of major thermal-hydraulic parameters were also evaluated, including the temperature and the level of cooling water, the void fraction around the lower head of the reactor vessel, and the heat transfer mode on its external surface.

  • A numerical model to analyze the unsteady flow in water distribution system was developed by using wave adjustment method. When analyzing the unsteady flow in the real water distribution system, the computational procedures are very complex due to the various boundary condition. Wave adjustment method, which can solve the boundary condition more simply and accurately, was introduced to overcome this difficulty and related equations to solve external flow directly were presented. Using these equations, the numerical model was developed to analyze water hammer. The suggested model was applied to a hypothetical distribution system and a real system with 26 pipes with various external flow boundary condition to evaluate the applicability of the developed model. The simulation results by this model agree with those by Karney's analysis in terms of discharge and pressure.

  • A three-dimensional inviscid flow solver has been developed based on unstructured meshes for the investigation of the effect of the external stores on the tail surfaces of a generic fighter aircraft. The numerical method is based on a vertex-centered finite-volume discretization and an implicit point Gauss-Seidel time integration. The calculations were made for a steady flow and the computed results were compared with experimental data to validate the flow solver. An unsteady time-accurate computation of the generic fighter aircraft with external stores at transonic flight conditions showed that the external stores cause unsteady loading on the horizontal tail surface due to the mutual interference between their wake and the horizontal tail surface. It was shown that downward deflection of the trailing edge flap significantly reduces the undesirable interference effect.

  • The thermal and condensation performance of steel stud walls are monitored in steel-framed schools of Ee-Wol Elementary School and kindergarten using temperature and humidity sensors installed. The monitoring process carried out during the summer and winter period, shows decrement effect of the external heat flow to be quite remarkable and excellent. And steel stud walls provides a highly efficient time-lag effect in spite of its light weight property, with 30 minutes to 4 hours time-lag for external heat flow, which variation mainly depends on its location of each part of the wall. Any condensation phenomena are not observed in either external or internal surfaces.

  • In this paper, we propose a container wall and its boundary layer insulation design method that can maintain the temperature inside the spacecraft shipping container constantly under the condition that the heat or the external temperature changes severely to safely transport the satellite to the launch site. We will examine if the temperature inside the satellite shipping container is kept constant through the heat flow analysis and the satellite heat transfer analysis for the external environment of the satellite shipping container. Through the flow analysis inside the container, the flow distribution around the satellite in the container is analyzed, and the auxiliary fan, air conditioning system and special grill guide structure design for improving and optimizing heat flow performance are proposed.

  • In this paper a new structured grid generation technique is introduced. This new technique utilizes predictor-corrector approach, and is a marching scheme in the global sense as the hyperbolic scheme is. In the predictor step, one layer of grid cells is obtained by using Modified Advancing Front Method which generates a collection of quadrilateral cells simultaneously. In the corrector step, the layer of grid cells that is calculated in the predictor step is adjusted by solving Laplace equations to prevent grid lines from skewing and overlapping in highly curved configurations. It is shown that the resultant algorithm, named a MAP scheme, which combines the Modified Advancing Front Method as a Predictor with an elliptic scheme as a corrector can be used to generate globally smooth and locally near-orthogonal grids for external flow fields even for highly curved configurations. Examples of grid generations for external flow fields about several configurations by use of the present approach are given, and its applicability and flexibility have been demonstrated and discussed.

  • An enhancement technique for phase dependent image contrast in MRI(Manetic Resonance Imaging) is proposed. Because the method can enhance inherent phase contrast it is suited for susceptibility imaging and flow imaging where intravoxel phase is a source of image contrast. In this paper, applying external phase in the voxel enhances phase contrast. The external phase is generated by a tailored RF pulse so that one can control the phase contrast and even produces phase only contrast. Signal intensity due to both inherent phase and external phase is analyzed and the proposed technique is applied to a susceptibility effect only imaging and a flow effect only imaging. To verify the proposed technique, computer simulations are performed and their results are given.

  • In this paper, the radiated aerodynamic noise generated from sound sources of a nozzle inflow is quantitatively investigated and compared with experimental results of externally radiated noise. A high-resolution unsteady compressible Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technique is used to accurately predict the internal and external flow of three types of nozzle shape. Through using the vortex sound source for sound sources, the geometry of nozzle neck is identified as most significant aerodynamic noise sources. For validation of quantitative analysis, the vortex sound source intensity of internal nozzle flow is compared with results of external radiated noise of calculation and experiment.

  • This study optimized the parameters of the helical gear based on the original external meshing helical gear pump, combined with the analysis of the stability and flow of the basic parameters of the equipment; herringbone gears were used to eliminate the axial force generated by the helical gears. An optimized helical gear rotor was built with NX. The error between the simulation and calculation results of pump displacement was 3.95% and the simulation results were valid. Analysis of the outlet pressure and lift changes (maximum change rates of 0.38% and 0.25%), pressure analysis of the XY center plane at different times in the same cycle (no pressure surge or drop), and analysis of the axial force of the primary and driven rotors (axis The axial force is close to 0) were performed. The results showed that the flow pulsation of the external gear pump was slight, the operation was smooth, vibration and friction were reduced, the wear of bearings and other components could be diminished, and the service life of the equipment was extended. The simulation results showed that the external gear pump met the design requirements.

  • The channel of the superconducting Flux Flow Transistor has been fabricated with plasma etching method using ICP. The ICP conditions were 700 W of ICP power, 150 W of rf chuck power, 5 mTorr of the pressure in chamber and 1:1 of Ar : Cl$_2$, respectively. The channel etched by plasma gas showed superconducting characteristics of over 77 K and superior surface morphology. The critical current of SFFT was altered by varying the external applied current. As the external applied current increased from 0 to 12 mA, the critical current decreased from 28 to 22 mA. Then the obtained r$\sub$m/ values were smaller than 0.1Ω at a bias current of 40 mA. The current gain was about 0.5. Output resistance was below 0.2 Ω.
