  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of internal-external locus of control on level of aspiration in Korean Children. The locus of control was measured by means of the Nowicki & Strickland's "A Locus of Control Scale for Children (1973)". The level of aspiration was measured by "Throw Balls into the Basket Game" Sixty internal controlled children(30 girls and 30 boys) and 60 external controlled children(30 girls and 30 boys) were selected among 853 children in fifth grade. For the data analysis, two - way analysis of variance and t-test were applied, Pearson correlation coefficient was computed. The results of this study were as follows; 1. Goal discrepancy score were significantly higher in the internal controlled children than in the external controlled children. 2. Shift value were significantly higher in the external controlled children than in the internal controlled children. 3. School achievement were significantly higher in the internal controlled children than in the external controlled children. 4. There was no significant difference in the school achievement between the children who showed high goal discrepancy score and the children who showed low one. 5. There was no significant difference in the locus of control between girls and boys. 6. Goal discrepancy score were significantly higher in boys than in girls, but there was no significant difference in the shift value between girls and boys.

  • CHF (Critical heat flux) on the external surface of the reactor vessel lower head is major key in the evaluation on the feasibility of IVR-EVC (In-Vessel Retention through External Vessel Cooling) concept. To identify the CHF on the external surface, considerable works have been performed. Through the review on the previous works related to the CHF on the external surface, liquid subcooling, induced flow along the external surface, ICI (In-Core Instrument) nozzle and minimum gap are identified as major parameters. According to the present analysis, the effects of the ICI nozzle and minimum gap on CHF are pronounced at the upstream of test vessel: on the other hand, the induced flow considerably affects the CHF at downstream of test vessel. In addition, the subcooling effect is shown at all of test vessel, and decreases with the increase in the elevation of test vessel. In the real application of the IVR-EVC concept, vertical position is known as a limiting position, at which thermal margin is the minimum. So, it is very important to precisely predict the CHF at vertical position in a viewpoint of gaining more thermal margins. However, the effects of the liquid subcooling and induced flow do not seem to be adequately included in the CHF correlations suggested by previous works, especially at the downstream positions.

  • PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate effects of shoulder adduction load on rotator cuff muscles, including the infraspinatus, during the external rotation exercise of shoulder. METHODS: This study investigated 16 healthy university students from Daegu University. Before the study started, all participants understood the content of this study. They signed an informed consent form. Five electrodes for surface electromyography (sEMG) were attached to their infraspinatus, middle deltoid, posterior deltoid, upper trapezius and pectoralis major. The participants then underwent the shoulder external rotation exercise with the shoulder adduction at three loads (0 mmHg, 20 mmHg and 40 mmHg) that were controlled using a stabilizer Pressure $Bio-feedback^{TM}$ device. The surface electrodes recorded the electromyographic data during the external rotation exercise of shoulder. RESULTS: The infraspinatus was most activated when the shoulder adduction pressure was 40 mmHg during the external rotation exercise of shoulder. The infraspinatus activation significantly increased when the shoulder adduction pressure intensity increased, while the middle deltoid activation and the posterior deltoid activation significantly decreased (p<.05). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, increases in shoulder adduction load intensity during shoulder external rotation exercises can have a positive effect on the infraspinatus, which consists of rotator cuff muscles, with minimal activity in the middle and posterior deltoid.

  • Antenna Passive Intermodulation (PIM) level measurement results are rarely credited to be due to external signal receiving characteristics of the antennas or serious effects from external PIM sources, such as the anechoic chamber absorber and antenna tower. This paper presents an antenna PIM model for a reflected PIM measurement method. Based on the findings of null point generation and the behavior of the third order PIM values obtained by theoretical predictions and experimental results, we concluded that the results of the antenna PIM level test were influenced by the external PIM sources generated by the anechoic chamber absorber and the path differences of PIM signals coming into the antenna.

  • New technology development capability plays a key role in making small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) increase their innovation performance, such as in product or process innovation. To examine the influencing factors of SMEs' new technology development capability, this study empirically analyzes the mediating effects of SMEs' process design capability and product interior design capability on the positive association between their external information network diversity and new technology development capability. This study performs the ordinary least squares regression on a sample of 2,000 South Korean SMEs. Results reveal that SMEs' process design capability fully mediates, and product interior design capability partially mediates the positive association between the external information network diversity and new technology development capability.

  • Objectives The present study aimed to investigate the effects of acupuncture and herbal external preparation on wound healing procedure in a deep partial thickness burn model in rats. Methods A total of 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats were allocated into four groups with an equal number in each group: acupuncture treatment group, herbal external perparation group, Silver sulfadiazine dressing group and control group. We describe the effect of acupuncture and herbal external preparation on morphologic and histologic changes, epithelial growth factor (EGF), hematological value of the deep partial thickness burn wound in rats. Results At 21th day after wounding the wound size in acupuncture treat group and herbal external preparation group were decreased more significantly compared to control group. In addition, epidermal regeneration on acupuncture treatment was than other treatment and control group in histological finding. Hematological findings revealed that acupuncture treatment group and herbal external prepartion group was more effective than control group in reducing inflammation response induced by burn. In acupuncture treated group, neutrophil and leukocyte level were significantly decreased compared to other treatment group. Also, this study showed that EGF was obviously expressed in nascent tissue when wounds were treated with the acupuncture and herbal external preparation after injury. In particular, acupuncture treatment group had a significant increase of EGF expression in burn wound healing area when compared with the other treatment groups. Conclusions These findings suggest that acupuncture and herbal external prepration may improve burn wound healing through decreasing inflammatory reaction, increasing tissue regeneration and expression of EGF. Moreover, acupuncture treatment could be more effective in comparison with Silver sulfadiazine dressing.

  • A flexible structure submerged in acoustic fluid is affected by its surrounding fluid. In this case, the coupling effects between structures and surrounding fluid have an effect on the submerged structure as external force and change impedance of acoustic domain. Therefore, the coupling effects by its surrounding fluid complicatedly change the characteristics of a submerged structure such as natural frequencies and damping coefficients. In this paper, using the analytic modal equation of a spherical shell surrounded by water and air, the complex changes of damping coefficients and natural frequencies of submerged structures are studied for various external acoustic fluid and structures.

  • The effects of Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on mouse embryos at the early stage of organogenesis were investigated. Pregnant ICR mice were exposed on day 8 of gestation to MRI at 0.5 T for 0.5 hour to 3 hours. The mortality rates of embryos or fetuses, the incidence of external malformations, fetal body weight and sex ratio were observed at day 18 of gestation. A significant increase in embryonic mortality was observed after exposure to either 0.5 T MRI for 0.5 hour or 2 hours. However, the exposure to MRI for 1 hour or 3 hours did not induce any significant increase in embryonic mortality when compared with control. External malformations such as exencephaly, cleft palate and anomalies of tail were observed in all experimental groups exposed to each MRI. A statistically significant increase of external malformations was observed in all groups treated with 0.5 T MRI for 0.5 hour and 3 hours. The incidence of external malformations in the mice group exposed to 0.5 T MRI for 0.5-hour was found to be higher than those of mice group exposed to 0.5 T MRI for 2 hours. The effects of MRI on the external malformations might not to be dose-dependent. There was no statistically significant difference in fetal body weight and sex ratio among each MRI exposure groups.

  • Objective: This study investigates the main effects and interaction effects of mother's reactions to young children's negative emotions on the children's problem behaviors. Methods: A total of 346 mothers with toddlers completed questionnaires, the data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Results: First, mothers' supportive response to young children's negative emotions, including expressive encouragement, emotion-focused reactions, and problem-focused reactions, showed negative relations with the children's internal and external problem behaviors. Mothers' unsupportive response to children's negative emotions, including distress reactions, minimization reactions, and punitive reactions, showed positive relations with the children's internal and external problem behaviors. Second, an interactive effect was observed. For external problem behavior, mothers' lower distress reactions accompanied by higher emotion-focused reactions, lower punitive reactions accompanied by higher emotion-focused reactions, lower distress reactions accompanied by higher problem-focused reactions, and lower punitive reactions accompanied by higher problem-focused reactions all decreased children′s problem behavior. However, for internal problem behavior, only mothers' lower distress reactions accompanied by higher emotion-focused reaction decreased children′s problem behavior. Conclusion/Implication: The main interaction effect on mothers' reaction to young children's negative emotional expression shows that preventive intervention is needed to address problem behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of the elderly's image or appearance to ageism. In this study, image included factors such as image management, external image and self and other's acceptance. To investigate the cause and effect of image to ageism, we purposely collected 315 samples from 4 senior welfare centers in Jeonju and exploited SEM (Structural equation modeling) for 297 cases excluding some cases with missing values. According to the results, first, we found that oneself and others' acceptance of the elderly's external image decreases the experience of ageism. Second, the behavior for image management resulted in oneself and others' acceptance of the image. Third, the behavior for image management positively influenced the external image. Fourth, the elderly's external image caused positive effects on oneself and others' acceptance of the image. Fifth, behavior for image management showed decreasing effects of the ageism experience.
