  • Garlic industries in Korea faced with a increasing difficulty because of the pressure of garlic importation from China is ever increasing than before. Therefore this study was conducted to produce low-cost garlics by mechanized cultivation and the results are as follows. A. By applying machinery(stem cutter and size separator, seeder, harvester) the labor was saved over 70% compare with the conventional cultivation B. Growth characteristics and yield showed no difference in mechanized and conventional cultivation of northern-type garlic. C. When scales were sown by seeder, the sowing-depth varied between 3 to 6cm and the rate of 2-plants emergence in one hole was 14.5%.

  • This study was carried out with the goal of improving accessibility for farmers in record management. The pre-survey for farm records found that the main reasons for lack of records were "no need" and "no time" to keep such records. Based on the results of the pre-survey of smartphone-based farm recordkeeping, the major composition articles were management books, daily work logs, analysis books and additional books compiled by setting log in, notice and suggestions. The number of smartphone-based farm record books was 4,430 nationwide. We also updated farms keeping records on seven occasions for user convenience. Regional differences in the utilization ratio of record books showed that continuous promotion and education aimed at users were key points of success for farm recordkeeping books.

  • Present studies were carried out to produce tetraploid plants by colchicine treatment using seeds, seedlings and shoot tips of Codonopsis lanceolata. Three tetraploid plants of C. lanceolata were produced from seeds which absorbed 0.1 % colchicine solution for 12 hours, and 0.5% colchicine solution for 1 and 6 hours from seedlings, respectively. But tetraploid was not produced from shoot tips treated by colchicine solution. Compared to diploid, tetraploid plants had larger stomata, but less number of stomata. Fresh weight of tetraploid plants was 1.4∼3.6 times heavier than diploid plants.

  • Present studies were carried out to produce tetraploid plants by colchicine treatment using seeds, seedlings and shoot tips of Platycodon grandiflorum in Campanulaceae. The most successful colchicine treatment for tetraploid production in P. grandiflorum was soaking treatment using 0.01 and 0.5% colchicine solution for 1 hour and 12 hours, respectively. Morphological characteristics of both diploid and tetraploid were similar, but tetraploid plants had more leaves. Compared to diploid, tetraploid had the larger stomata, but less number of stomata. Fresh weight of tetraploids was 20∼40% heavier than that of diploid.

  • When paprika is cultivated during summer season, thrips starts to occur in the early growing season and reaches its peak in late June. In the treatment using Orius laevigatus and Neoseiulus cucumeris, natural enemies to thrips, thrips density was 87.6/trap and 51.3/trap on June 23. After Orius laevigatus and Neoseiulus cucumeris were treated twice on June 24 and July 23, the number decreased considerably. On August 23, it was 36.9/trap and 40.3/trap and from the mid August to early September thrips density remained low. Effect of Orius laevigatus and Neoseiulus cucumeris on suppression of thrips density was 35.7% and 44.6% on July 22, however, the number went up to 88.8% and 80.5% on September 3.

  • This study investigated the crude protein and amino acid contents of local agricultural products widely and specifically grown in Korea, including 25 vegetables and 13 fruits. The crude protein content of vegetables and fruits ranged from 0.46 to 6.53% and 0.29 to 2.23%, respectively. Totally, 17 types of amino acids were found in most samples. The total amino acid content of vegetables and fruits ranged from 457.38 to 9,303.18 mg% and 368.82 to 3,118.75 mg%, respectively. The total amino acid contents of garlic and passion fruit was higher compared to other vagetables and fruits. The calibration curves of the standard components showed good linearity ($r^2$>0.99), except Met ($r^2=0.989$). The limits of LOD and LOQ were in the range 0.034 to $0.991{\mu}g/mL$ and 0.009 to $0.474{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The results of the study can serve as a fundamental source of information regarding crude protein and amino acids contents in food, for diet planning.

  • The diffusion of innovation theory provided the basis for a model of agricultural development that the extension service continues to use today. This study aims to examine the history, influence, and impacts of innovation diffusion theory on the extension service. It reviews some of the major developments in the literature related to the theory, examines its criticisms, and discusses the implications for extension. As such, innovators are younger, more cosmopolitan, have higher incomes than later adopters, and have the largest operations of all adopter categories. There are two critiques on diffusion of innovation theory in which are the method and inequity recurring from diffusion.

  • The advance in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and web services has led to the development of new types of a system in which heterogeneous service components can connect and compose to solve a complex business problem. In the SOA, even though these service components are valid in their functionality, there is a need to test their behaviors when those services are composited. In recent years, WS-BPEL has received a wide acceptance as a means of integrating distributed service components. To test the composite service, the existing testing techniques have been focused on the functional features based on the WS-BPEL process. However as SOA approach is applying to real-time software development, the performance of composite service becomes one of important issues. This paper proposes a technique to the performance testing of a composite service with WS-BPEL extension which combined with the concept of aspect. Our WS-BPEL extension has been made towards annotating aspect component which is measuring the response time of the composite service. This paper also explains the procedure of performance testing with on-line transaction system. Our technique can apply to choose an adequate component in service composition with considering the performance among several candidate web service components.

  • Agricultural extension service in Ethiopia was started in early 1950s with mandate of transferring local research outputs and technologies to farmers, and importing technologies and improved practices from abroad. Extension service provided in this early time was limited to areas surrounding the experiment stations. Since then, Ethiopian Agricultural extension service has passed through at least five stages: the land grant extension system, the Comprehensive Package Programs, the Minimum Package Projects, the Peasant Agricultural Development Program, and the Participatory Demonstration and Training Extension System (PADETS). The comprehensive package extension program was initially implemented in selected pilot areas and eventually to be scaled up to cover about 90% of the farming community within 15-20 years time. The program used demonstration plots managed by development agents and used to train farmers organized through various field days. However, since all of these programs were operational in only small areas, the vast majority of the country was out of their reach. Through Participatory Demonstration and Training Extension System, the extension service in Ethiopia has come under the spotlight and government debates and external reviews are putting additional scrutiny on the system. Despite this long history, the system is still in its infancy in terms of coverage, communication and institutional pluralism. Currently in Ethiopia the Agricultural extension is provided primarily by the public sector, operating in a decentralized manner through which extension is implemented at the district level. Therefore, the main focus of this paper is to scrutinize the past, the present and the future Agricultural extension system in Ethiopia.
