Studies on the Grassland Development in the Forest XIII. Effect of potassium fertilization on grass production, nutritive value and nitrate nitrogen concentration by growing senson and growth stage under shading condition (임간초지 개발에 관한 연구 X III. 차광조건하에서 칼리시비수준이 계절별 , 생육시기별 목초의 건물생산과 사료가치 및 질산태질소 함량에 미치는 영향)

  • To determine the effects of potassium($K_2O$) fertilization level(0, 100, 200 and 300 kg/ha/year) on the growth, dry matter(DM) yield, nutritive value and nitrate nitrogen($NO_3$-N) concentration of grasses grown under shading condition, this experiment was carried out in Grassland Div., LES, 1989. The plants were sampled on different growing seasons (spring, summer and autumn) and growth stages (grazing and soiling), respectively. Shade was controlled artificially ca. 45-50%, and the level of nitrogen fertilization was 200 kg/ha/year in all treatments. Higher DM was produced in spring 1, 453 kg at grazing and 2, 364 kg/ha at soiling stage, and DM production was increased with increasing level of $K_2O$. In this experiment, the optimum amount of $K_2O$ fertilizer was 200 kg/ha. The neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, DM digestibility, and relative feed value of grasses were not affected by $K_2O$ fertilization, regardless of growing season and growth stage. The $NO_3$-N concentration of grasses grown in spring was very low (ca. 1.0%), regardless of growth stage and $K_2O$ level. However, $NO_3$-N concentration was very high in summer and autumn season, also $NO_3$-N was decreased significantly with increasing level of $K_2O$ fertilization (P<0.05). Application of $K_2O$ fertilizer, therefore, is thoughs to be desirable for reducing $NO_3$-N concentration of grasses, especially in summer and autumn season. So annual split fertilization of $K_2O$ could be recommended on woodland pasture.

Growth and Chemical Properties of Oriental Tobacco as affected by Transplanting Time (오리엔트종 연초의 생육 및 화학특성에 미치는 이식시기의 영향)

  • Oriental tobacco (KA 101) was transplanted from Mar. 25 to May 5 with 10 days interval in 1984 and 1985, and its agronomic characteristics, chemical properties ware compared to determine the Proper transplanting time of aromatic tobacco In Korea. As the transplanting was delayed, days to flowering of plant was shortened, length and width of largest leaf, leaf area index tended to decrease. Yield was highest for the Apr. 5th transplanting followed by Mar. 25th planting, then decreased as the planting date was delayed. Quality by price decreased as the transplanting was delayed later than Apr. 25. Delaying transplanting increased nicotine, total nitrogen and ash content, but decreased reducing sugar and petroleum ether extract of cured leaves, The content of volatile organic acids such as 3-methyl pentanoic acid was lower when it was transplanted later than Apr. 25th. Neophytadiene content increased as the transplanting was delayed, but there were no trends with the content of alcohols, aldehydes esters and ketones. Several quality indices including the ratio between the content of volatile organic acids plus petroleum ether extract and ash content plus pH was higher for the Apr. 5th transplanting.

Effects of Tween 80 on In Vitro Fermentation of Silages and Interactive Effects of Tween 80, Monensin and Exogenous Fibrolytic Enzymes on Growth Performance by Feedlot Cattle

  • The effects of monensin, Tween 80 and exogenous fibrolytic enzymes on ruminal fermentation and animal performance were studied in vitro and in vivo. In Expt 1, the effects of the surfactant Tween 80 (0.2% wt/wt, DM basis) on ruminal fermentation of alfalfa, corn and orchardgrass silages were investigated using in vitro gas production techniques. Tween 80 did not affect (p>0.05) cumulative gas production at 24 h, but it reduced (p<0.05) the lag in fermentation of all three silages. With corn silage and orchardgrass silage, gas production rates and concentrations of total volatile fatty acids (VFA) were increased (p<0.05) by Tween 80; with alfalfa silage, they were reduced (p<0.05). Tween 80 increased (p<0.05) the proportion of propionate in total VFA, and reduced (p<0.05) acetate to propionate ratios (A:P) with all three silages. In Expt 2, exogenous fibrolytic enzymes (E; at 0, 37.5 or 75 g/tonne DM), monensin (M; at 0 or 25 ppm and Tween 80 (T; at 0 or 2 L/tonne DM) were added alone or in combination to backgrounding and finishing diets fed to 320 crossbred steers in a feeding trial with a $3{\times}2{\times}$2 factorial arrangement of treatments. The backgrounding and finishing diets contained barley grain and barley silage in ratios of 57.8:42.2 and 93.5:6.5 (DM basis), respectively. Added alone, none of the additives affected DM intake (p>0.1) in the backgrounding or in the finishing period, but interactive $M{\times}T$ effects were observed in the finishing period (p=0.02) and overall (p=0.04). In the finishing period, T without M tended to reduce DM intake (p=0.11), but T with M increased (p=0.05) DM intake. Monensin increased average daily gain (ADG) during backgrounding (p=0.07) and finishing (p=0.01), and this ionophore also improved overall feed efficiency (p=0.02). Warm carcass weight was increased (p<0.001) by M, but dressing percentage was reduced (p=0.07). In the backgrounding period, T increased ADG by 7% (p=0.06). Enzymes increased (p=0.07) ADG by 5 and 6% (low and high application rates, respectively) during backgrounding, but did not affect (p>0.10) ADG during finishing, or overall feed efficiency. Whereas T enhanced the positive effects of M on ADG during backgrounding (p=0.04) and overall (p=0.05), it had no impact (p>0.1) on the effects of E. Interactions between M and T suggest that the surfactant may have potential for enhancing the positive effects of monensin on beef production, but this requires further research.

Dietary Fatty Acid Increases Body Weight Gain without a Change in Rumen Fermentation in Fattening Cattle

  • Dietary fatty acid including mainly palmitic acid and stearic acid was fed to fattening cattle and its effect on body weight gain, plasma lipid contents and rumen liquid fermentation in vitro was examined. In expt. 1, the effect of dietary fatty acid on body weight gain and plasma lipid concentrations was examined. In the control diet group, cattle were fed 1 kg/day of rice straw and concentrate which satisfied the requirement. In the fatty acid group, cattle were given 250 g/d of fatty acid with the same diet of the control diet group. In the excess concentrate group, cattle were given the same diet of the control diet group plus 735 g/d of concentrate corresponding to the same TDN of 250 g/d of fatty acid. Diets were given for 7 days. Body weight gain of cattle given dietary fatty acid was significantly greater than that of cattle fed only rice straw and concentrate. When dietary fatty acid was added to cattle feed, plasma NEFA and HDL-cholesterol concentrations increased. In expt. 2, the influence of dietary fatty acid on gas production and VFA profile in the rumen liquid was investigated in vitro. In the control group, 10 mg of rice straw and 90 mg of concentrate were incubated in the rumen fluid. In the excess concentrate group, 10 mg of rice straw and 97.5 mg of concentrate were incubated. In the fatty acid group, 10 mg of rice straw, 90 mg of concentrate and 2.5 mg of fatty acids were incubated. The rumen liquid mixed with feed materials was incubated for 24 h and the cumulative gas volume was measured. The VFA profile was also measured. Cumulative gas volume in the rumen liquid with fatty acid was equal to the control. Excess concentrate increased cumulative gas volume compared to the fatty acid group. There was no significant difference in total VFA concentration between experimental diet groups. It is suggested that dietary fatty acid has the potency to improve growth performance in fattening cattle without failure in rumen fermentation.

The effects of learning method, learning schedule, and task difficulty on the learning of computer software (학습방법, 학습계획, 과제 난이도가 소프트웨어 학습에 미치는 영향)

  • Quick and accurate learning of diverse electronic products has become an important daily task. In particular, software occupies core status in the control and operation of the products. This research tested the effects of learning method, schedule, and task difficulty in the learning of software. Using 2 (learning method: experiential vs. verbal) ${\times}$ 2 (learning schedule: spaced vs. massed) ${\times}$ 2 (difficulty: easy vs. difficult) between-subjects design, Experiment 1 tested participants' learning of file control using Windows Movie Maker. There was no effect of learning schedule on task completion time, but participants in experiential learning were faster in the completion of evaluation task compared with those in verbal learning condition. Importantly, as task difficulty increases participants in verbal condition showed markedly lower performance than those in experiential condition, which suggests that experiential learning is more effective with more difficult learning task. That is, in case of learning simple operation of software verbal learning using linguistic manual or instruction could be sufficient; on the other hand in case of learning complex operation learning from experience or tutorial mode would be more effective. Additional studies which manipulated task difficulty (Expt. 2) and inter-trial learning interval (Expt. 3) did not produce meaningful results.

Effect of Dietary Betaine and Energy Levels on Liver Fats and Cholesterol in Laying Hens (사료내 비태인과 에너지 수준이 산란계의 간지방과 콜레스테롤에 미치는 영향)

  • Two experiments were conducted to examine the effects of betaine intake on blood and yolk cholesterol, abdominal fat, liver fat, tissue triglyceride(TG) and liver HMG-CoA reductase In laying hens. In Expt. 1, a total of 72 ISA-brown laying hens were individually assigned into four treatments from 18 to 21 weeks old. Com-soybean meal based diet were fed with the addition of 0, 300, 600 and 1,200ppm. In Expt. 2, 72 ISA-brown laying hens were housed into individual cage to evaluate the effect of dietary betaine(0, 600ppm) and energy(ME, 2,800, 2,900kca/kg) from 70 to 74 weeks. Serum total cholesterol, LDL and HDL-cholesterol and TG concentration in blood of hens fed betaine tended to increase compared to those of the control, but were not significantly different. However, betaine supplementation showed a statistically significant decrease in yolk cholesterol(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in abdominal fat among the treatments. Liver fats and 7c of birds 130 betaine was decreased compared with control. Serum total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride concentration were significantly inc.eased by ffeding a diet containing 600ppm betaine in Expt. 2(P<0.05), but were not influenced by the dietary energy levels. Yolk cholesterol, abdominal fat and HMG-CoA reductase activity were affected neither by dietary energy nor betaine level.

Competition between Transplanted Lowland Rice and Weeds as Affected by Plant Spacing and Rice Cultivar Having Different Maturity (수도품종(水稻品種)의 숙기(熟期) 차이(差異)가 잡초(雜草)와의 경쟁력(競爭力)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • The experiment was studied to know the competitive ability of rice against weeds as affected by rice maturity and plant spacing. For both cultivars, Tongil (12 days later) and Yeongnamjosaeng, the least amount of weed was obtained from the 10 ${\times}$ 10cm plant spacing while no difference between 40 ${\times}$ (10 ${\times}$ 10cm) and 30 ${\times}$ 15cm plant spacings was observed. When weed was nor pulled out by hand, significant yield loss was resulted in 30 ${\times}$ 15cm and 40 ${\times}$ (10 ${\times}$ 10cm) plant spacings while no difference between weeding regime was observed at the 10 ${\times}$ 10cm plant spacing in both cultivars. Rice grain yield was unaffected by plant spacing for hand weeded plot in both rice cultivars. For noweeding plot, however, the highest grain yield was obtained from 10 ${\times}$10cm plant spacing and also this yield was not significantly different from the yield of hand weeded plot while significant yield loss was recognized at the 30 ${\times}$ 15cm and 40 ${\times}$ (10 ${\times}$ 10cm) plant spacings in noweeding plot. There was also a good relationship between weed weight and grain yield for both cultivars (Tongil; Y = 5.68 - 0.0127 X, r = -0.814$^*$; Yeongnamjosaengv Y = 5.04 - 0.0314 X, r =-0.9704$^{**}$). Based on these relationship, weed weight of 188.2g/sq.m for Yeongnamjosaeng and 223.6g/sq.m for Tongil was needed to reduce rice yield by 50%, respectively. This result implied that Tongil compete more efficiently against weed than Yeongnamjosaeng and hence, could be concluded that late maturing cultivar was more competitive against weed compared to early maturing cultivar.

The effects of emotional matching between video color-temperature and scent on reality improvement (영상의 색온도와 향의 감성적 일치가 영상실감 향상에 미치는 효과)

  • Technologies for video reality (e.g., 3D displays, vibration, surround sound, etc.) utilize various sensory input and many of them are now commercialized. However, when it comes to the use of olfaction for video reality, there has not been much progress in both practical and academic respects. Because olfactory sense is tightly associated with human emotion, proper use of this sense is expected to help to achieve a high degree of video reality. This research tested the effects of a video's color-temperature related scent on reality improvement when the video does not have apparent object (e.g., coffee, flower, etc.) which suggest specific smell. To this end, we had participants to rate 48 scents based on a color-temperature scale of 1,500K (warm)-15,000K (cold) and chose 8 scents (4 warm scents, 4 cold scents) which showed clear correspondence with warm or cold color-temperatures (Expt. 1). And then after applying warm (3,000K), neutral (6,500K), or cold (14,000K) color-temperatures to images or videos, we presented warm or cold scents to participants while they rate reality improvement on a 7-point scale depending on relatedness of scent vs. color-temperature (related, unrelated, neutral) (Expts. 2-3). The results showed that participants experienced greater reality when scent and color-temperature was related than when they were unrelated or neutral. This research has important practical implications in demonstrating the possibility that provision of color-temperature related scent improves video reality even when there are no concrete objects that suggest specific olfactory information.

Volcanic Origin Potential Acid Sulfate Soil Material : Hydrothermally Altered Pyrite Rich Andesite (열수변질 함황철석 안산암 기원의 잠재성 특이산성토 물질)

  • Acid sulfate soil and potential acid sulfate soil material are worldwide in distribution and are problematic in agriculture and environment due to their present and potential acidity developed by the oxidation of sulfides. Most of them are sedimentary origin and a few cases are reported as volcanic or metamorphic origin. We report a potential acid sulfate soil material originated from volcanic activity during Mesozoic. A profile of Bongsan series-weathered nonpyritic andesite-hydrothermally altered pyrite rich andesite was studied with field examination, chemistry, and mineralogy. Once, the pyrite rich andesite was exposed to atmosphere by excavation and leveling works for a residential area and the lay out site had subsequent acidification problem of soil and surface water. The parent material and soil profile of Bongsan series had no signs of presence of pyrite and acid sulfate weathering such as yellow mottles. However, the hydrothermally altered andesite substrata contained significant amount of pyrite showing characteristics of hydrothermal origin such as cubic and pyritohedron morphology and occurrence along cracks.
