  • The gelatine dynamite, which has been traditionally used in Korea as the 2nd generation explosive, is now being rapidly replaced by an emulsion explosive because of the change in life environment economic schemes, and safety reasons. However, there has been lack of study in the surfactant which is an important factor in manufacturing technology of emulsion explosives, and especially GMB technology has not been used in Korea. In this study, effective usage of surfactant with optimum dosage and optimum mixing temperature of GMB was investigated to increase safety and effectiveness.

  • Overbreak is an inevitable during tunnel excavation. It significantly affects tunnel construction cost and safety The overbreak occurs due to incorrect expectations to the geologic structures, excessive charge or strength of explosives, etc. This paper introduces multi-hole drilling method to minimize the overbreak in tunnel excavation. Although the drilling cost of the method is more expensive than those of the existing other drilling method, it is expected at that cost will be reduced.

  • Since various types of safety facilities have been located around blasting construction site, each of the institutions with regard to blast works has prepared limit criterion of blast vibration, respectively. But these criterions applied for limiting vibration are causing harmful effect including construction cost increasement and construction time extension due to exceedable high level application. In this study, more reasonable limit of blast vibration was suggested after reviewing criterions based on existing design and construction cases and analyzing of problems of applied criterions.

  • This paper suggested an error detection process based on multimedia computer supported cooperative works (CSCW) for industry safety environment. This system is suitable for detecting software fault for multimedia CSCW. It is necessary of detecting an error for the system to be protected by reactivity of media service instance instead of breaking process of session. This paper describes a performance analysis of an error detecting system of function comparison of proposed method with other method based multimedia CSCW for explosives as an example of industry safety environment.

  • A survey for understanding the opinion about the safety and economy of different types of detonators used in domestic tunnel construction was carried out for total 345 people in related areas. From the result, it was found that 86.7% of the surveyed people felt non-electric detonator was safe. From the experimental points that the cost of detonators is in charge of 8.1% in overall tunnel blasting cost, and the utilization of non-electric detonators will also contribute to the prevention of blasting accidents by the electrical safety, this study can help providing opinions and basic data collected from related areas to manufacturing companies, police department, and companies ordering tunnel construction.

  • The live fire test has been playing a critical role in evaluating the goals-to-meet of the weapon systems which utilize the power of explosives. As such, the successful development of the test systems therein is quite important. The test systems development covers that of ranges and facilities including system-level key components such as mission control, instrumentation or observation, safety control, electric power, launch pad, and so on. In addition, proper operational guidelines are needed with well-trained test and operation personnel. The emerging weapon systems to be deployed in future battle field would thus have to be more precise and dynamic, smarter, thereby requiring more elaboration. Furthermore, the safety consideration is becoming more serious due to the ever-increasing power of explosives. In such a situation, development of live fire test systems seems to be challenging. The objective of the paper is on how to incorporate the safety and other requirements in the development. To achieve the goal, an architectural approach is adopted by utilizing both the system components relationship and safety requirement when advanced instrumentation technology needs to be developed and deteriorated components of the range are replaced. As an evaluation method, it is studied how the level of maturity of the test systems development can be assessed particularly with the safety requirement considered. Based on the concepts of both systems engineering and SoS (System-of-Systems) engineering process, an enhanced model for the system readiness level is proposed by incorporating safety. The maturity model proposed would be helpful in assessing the maturity of safety-critical systems development whereas the costing model would provide a guide on how the reasonable test resource allocation plan can be made, which is based on the live fire test scenario of future complex weapon systems such as SoS.

  • Recently, construction techniques have been rapidly developed with reconstruction of old buildings, urban regeneration and efforts of restoring natural ecology, so demolition of deteriorated buildings has been rapidly increasing. Demolition work of building should be executed without damaging surrounding environments according to relevant regulations. There are various demolition methods and among them, explosives demolition is the most practical way for expenses and safety of work. As a part of Daejeon stream ecological restoration project, this thesis is a case of executing demolition of Chung-Ang Department Store which was built 35 years ago as covered structure on the upper part of Daejeon stream with explosives demolition. This structure is 8 stories high, total height of 41.6 m including basement floor, $1,650m^2$ for building area and $18,351m^2$ for total floor area. It is located in the center of Daejeon city where shopping centers and buildings are crowded and main facilities are Daejeon subway (18m), backside shopping center (20m), underground shopping center(15m), Mokchuk bridge, Eunjung bridge(0.25m) and fiber-optic cable(0.25m). In this project, implosion was selected for explosives demolition methods by considering this area being a busy urban area, and this project was executed after examining collapse movement of structure in advance using simulation program not to damage main facilities. Total 80kg of explosives and 1,000 detonators were being used. This project will be a good case of executing explosives demolition successfully by applying implosion on urban area in the country.

  • Blasting is a work that destruct an object by use of explosive. Its use covers a wid range, and it is applicable to blast the rocks, minerals, coal, steel and concrete structures, bridges, etc. To execute the blast plan most effectively, the properties of the object and the explosives should be well understood, and all the other conditions must ve incorporated in its design and plan. A safe blasting pattern and procedure should be selected considering the envirinmental effects and dther conditions. At the same time, a protective protective pricedures should be utilized to prevent the safety hazards such as the excessive blast vubration, air pressure, and the flying fragments. This study reviews the controlled blasting techniques in these regards.

  • Approximately 95% of the world's trade moves by containers, primarily on large ships, but also on trains, trucks, and barges. The system is efficient and economical, but vulnerable. However, the rise of terrorism and the possibility that a container could be used to transport or actually be the delivery vehicle for weapons of mass destruction or high explosives have made it imperative that the security of shipping container system be greatly improved. This study proposed a trend of container security and its Countermeasures.

  • On sites where explosives are used, the effects of noise and vibration produced by the blast wave are subject to a number of operational restrictions. Recently, the number of civil complaints has increased and the standard of environmental regulations on secure goods has been greatly tighten. Therefore, work is generally carried out by machine excavation in case of close proximity of safety thing. Machine excavation methods have the advantage as reducing noise and vibration compared to blasting methods, but depending on the conditions of rock intended to be excavated, they are sometimes less constructive than planned. In general, the closer a rock type is to hard rock, the less constructible it becomes. In this paper, we are going to explain the construction of a construction section with a close proximity to a safety thing using electronic detonators. While the project site was designed with a machine excavation methods due to the close(9.9m) proximity of safety thing(the railroad), construction using electronic detonators was reviewed as an alternative method for improving rate of advance time and construction efficiency when expose to hard rock. Through blasting using electronic detonators, construction and economic efficiency were maximized while minimizing impact on surrounding safety things. Because $HiTRONIC^{TM}$, which is produced by Hanwha, has innovative stability and high explosion reliability, it is able to explode with high-precision accuracy. Electronic detonators are widely used in construction sites of railway or highway, other urban burrowing areas and large limestone mines.
