  • As the wireless mobile communication is being widespread, mobile technologies will have important roles in the communication with the explosive growth of demanding for wireless portable devices. Among the mobile technologies, a great deal of interest has been taken in mobile ad hoc network (MANET), which is a collection of wireless mobile nodes forming a temporary network without the aid of stationary infrastructure in recent. Furthermore, considering characteristic of ad hoc networks, the design of efficient routing protocols is an important issue. In recent years, on-demand protocols among routing protocols have noticed because of the low routing overhead. However, on-demand protocols suffer from production of the enormous query Packets by broadcasting in order to setup routes, that is, a flooding scheme. The flooding scheme is very costly and results in serious problem, which we refer as the broadcast storm problem. In this paper, we propose a Dynamic Adaptation Query flooding Using Neighbor Topology (NT-DAQ) scheme, in order to resolve the broadcast storm Problem. When a route discovery is in progress, each mobile node decides on the basis of neighbor topology information whether discovery process participates or not. Therefore, our proposed scheme enables to improve network performance in which minimize the number of query rackets. We evaluate the efficiency of our proposed scheme through simulation.

  • With the explosive growth of WWW traffic, there is an increasing demand for the high performance Web servers to provide a stable Web service to users. The cluster-based Web server is a solution to core with the heavy access from users, easily scaling the server according to the loads. In the cluster-based Web sewer, a back-end node may not be able to serve some HTTP requests directly because it does not have the requested contents in its main memory. In this case, the back-end node has to retrieve the requested contents from its local disk or other back-end nodes in the cluster. To reduce service latency, we introduce a new prefetch scheme. The back-end nodes predict the next HTTP requests and prefetch the contents of predicted requests before the next requests arrive. We develop three prefetch algorithms bated on some useful information gathered from many clients'HTTP requests. Through trace-driven simulation, the service latency of the prefetch scheme is reduced by 10 ~ 25% as compared with no prefetch scheme. Among the proposed prefetch algorithms, Time and Access Probability-based Prefetch (TAP2) algorithm, which uses the access probability and the inter-reference time of Web object, shows the best performance.

  • Frequent terror or military attack by explosion, impact, fire accidents have occurred recently. These attacks and incidents raised public concerns and anxiety of potential terrorist attacks on important infrastructures. However, structural behavioral researches on prestressed concrete (PSC) infrastructures such as Prestressed Concrete Containment Vessel (PCCV) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage tanks under extreme loading are significantly lacking at this time. Also, researches on possible secondary fire scenarios after terror and bomb explosion has not been performed yet. Therefore, a study on PSC structural behavior from an blast-induced fire scenario was undertaken. To evaluate the blast-fire combined resistance capacity and its protective performance of bi-directional unbonded PSC member, blast-fire tests were carried out on $1,400mm{\times}1,000mm{\times}300mm$ PSC specimens. Blast loading tests were performed by the detonation of 25 kg ANFO explosive charge at 1.0 m standoff distance. Also, fire and blast-fire combined loading were tested using RABT fire loading curve. The test results are discussed in detail in the paper. The results can be used as basic research references for related research areas, which include protective design simulation under blast-fire combined loading.

  • The nose fairings of KSR-III are designed to be separated from the rocket by explosive force at the mission altitude to expose the payload. Adequate amount of separation force should be imposed to allow safe separation without collision between the fairings and the rocket, and the separation device was designed for the separation at very high altitude where almost no air load was expected. As the development of KSR-III goes on, several design changes have made and lower separation altitude of 45km is expected as a result. Under these circumstances, it is required to determine if the nose fairings can be separated without collision with much severer air load than for the design condition. In this study, the 6-DOF motion analysis program, PASEM, which was developed to predict the strap-on booster separation, is modified to simulate the pivotal motion of the fairings at early stages of separation. The accuracy of pivot motion simulation is validated by comparison with the results of ground test and the accurate separation conditions are deduced from it. Trajectory simulations are performed to see if separation without collision is possible with varying angle of attack, direction of gravity, and the effect of gust. It is also found that reducing the separation angle of the clamshell hinge from 60 degrees to 40 degrees can enhance separation safety and separation at lower altitude of 40km can be done without collision.

  • Recently, terroristic threats using a radio controlled improvised explosive device (RCIED) that is remotely controlled and exploded have been increased around the world. In order to prevent the explosion of an RCIED, jamming techniques that interrupt an RCIED receiver can be used, so that the receiver can not demodulate the trigger code. Conventional jamming technique is a type of active barrage jamming that always emits the noise jamming signal for all the frequency band. However, it needs large power consumption and thus is limited in operation time for a vehicle. In order to overcome the shortage of the active barrage jamming, reactive jamming technique has drawn attention. In reactive jamming, all the frequency band is firstly scanned, and then if any trigger signal exists, one emits the jamming signal to the corresponding frequency band. Therefore, the reactive jamming is superior to the active barrage jamming in terms of power efficiency. However, a reactive jammer emits a jamming signal only after the trigger signal is intercepted, which means that the jamming signal may be late for interrupting an RCIED receiver. In this sense, it is needed to evaluate a delay in an RCIED receiver. To achieve this, we analyze the reaction time and present the simulation result for jamming performance of reactive jamming against an RCIED using mobile devices.

  • For many years clustered heterogeneous web server architecture has been formed on the internet because the explosive internet services and the various quality of requests. The critical point in cluster environment is the mapping schemes of request to server. and recently this is the main issue of internet architecture. The topic of previous mapping methods is to assign equal loads to servers in cluster using the number of requests. But recent growth of various services makes it hard to depend on simple load balancing to satisfy appropriate latency. So mapping based on requested content to decrease response time and to increase cache hit rates on entire servers - so called “content-based” mapping is highly valuated on the internet recently. This paper proposes Prioritized Highest Random Weight mapping(PHRW mapping) that improves content-based mapping to properly fit in the heterogeneous environment. This mapping scheme that assigns requests to the servers with priority, is very effective on heterogeneous web server cluster, especially effective on decreasing latency of reactive data service which has limit on latency. This paper have proved through algorithm and simulation that proposed PHRW mapping show higher-performance by decrease in latency.

  • In recent years, frequent terror or military attack by explosion, impact, fire accidents have occurred. Particularly, World Trade Center collapse and US Department of Defense Pentagon attack on Sept. 11 of 2001. Also, nuclear power plant incident on Mar. 11 of 2011. These attacks and incidents were raised public concerns and anxiety of potential terrorist attacks on major infrastructures and structures. Therefore, the extreme loading researches were performed of prestressed concrete (PSC) member, which widely used for nuclear containment vessel and gas tank. In this paper, to evaluate the blast resistance capacity and its protective performance of bi-directional unbonded prestressed concrete member, blast tests were carried out on $1,400{\times}1,000{\times}300mm$ for reinforced concrete (RC), prestressed concrete without rebar (PSC), prestressed concrete with rebar (PSRC) specimens. The applied blast load was generated by the detonation of 55 lbs ANFO explosive charge at 1.0 m standoff distance. The data acquisitions not only included blast waves of incident pressure, reflected pressure, and impulse, but also included displacement, acceleration, and strains at steel, concrete, PS tendon. The results can be used as basic research references for related research areas, which include protective design and blast simulation under blast loading.

  • The wear on engine valve and seat insert is one of the most important factors affecting engine performance. The engine valve and seat insert must be able to withstand the severe environment that is created by: high temperature exhaust gases generated while the engine is running, rapid movement of the valve spring, high pressure generated in the explosive process. In order to study such problems, a simulator has been developed to generate and control high temperatures and various speeds during motion. The wear simulator is considered to be a valid simulation of the engine valve and seat insert wear process with various speeds during engine activity. This work focused on the test of various degrees of wear on four different exhaust valve materials such as HRV40, HRV40-FNV (face nitrided valve), STL #32, STL #6,. Throughout all tests performed in this study, the outer surface temperature of the seat insert was controlled at $350^{\circ}C$, the cycle number was $4.0{\times}10^6$, the test load was 6860 N, the fuel was LPG the test speed was 20 Hz (2400 RPM) and the seat insert material was HVS1-2. The mean (standard deviation) maximum roughness of the exhaust valve and seat insert was $25.44\;(3.16)\;{\mu}m$ and $27.53\;(3.60)\;{\mu}m$ at the HRV40, $21.58\;(2.38)\;{\mu}m$ and $25.94\;(3.07)\;{\mu}m$ at the HRV40-FNV, $36.73\;(8.98)\;{\mu}m$ and $61.38\;(7.84)\;{\mu}m$ at the STL #32, $73.64\;(23.80)\;{\mu}m$ and $60.80\;(13.49)\;{\mu}m$ at the STL #6, respectively. It was discovered that the maximum roughness of exhaust valve was lower as the high temperature hardness of the valve material was higher under the same test conditions such as temperature, test speed, cycle number, test load and seat insert material. The set of the HRV40-FNV exhaust valve and the HVS1-2 seat insert showed the best wear resistance.

  • The wireless transmission medium inherently broadcasts a signal to all neighbor nodes in the transmission range. Existing asynchronous MAC protocols do not provide a concrete solution for reliable broadcast in link layer. This mainly comes from that an omni-directional broadcasting causes to reduce the network performance due to the explosive collisions and contentions. This paper proposes a reliable broadcast protocol in link taller based on directional antennas, named MDB(MAC protocol for Directional Broadcasting). This protocol makes use of DAST(Directional Antennas Statement Table) information and D-MACA(Directional Multiple Access and Collision Avoidance) scheme through 4-way handshake to resolve the many collision problem wit]1 omni-directional antenna. To analyze its performance, MDB protocol is compared with IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol [9] and the protocol 2 of reference [3], in terms of the success rate of broadcast and the collision rate. As a result of performance analysis through simulation, it was confirmed that the collision rate of the MDB protocol is lower than those of IEEE 802.11 and the protocol 2 of reference [3], and that the completion rate of broadcast of MDB protocol is higher than those of IEEE 802.11 and the protocol 2 of reference [3].

  • Understanding the effect of boron content on atomic structures of boron-bearing multicomponent silicate melts is essential to reveal the atomistic origins of diverse geochemical processes involving silica-rich magmas, such as explosive volcanic eruption. The detailed atomic environments around B and Al in boron-bearing complex aluminosilicate glasses yield atomistic insights into reactivity of nuclear waste glasses in contact with aqueous solutions. We report experimental results on the effect of boron content on the atomic structures of sodium borate glasses and boron-bearing multicomponent silicate melts [malinkoite ($NaBSiO_4$)-nepheline ($NaAlSiO_4$) pseudo-binary glasses] using the high-resolution solid-state NMR ($^{11}B$ and $^{27}Al$). The $^{11}B$ MAS NMR spectra of sodium borate glasses show that three-coodrinated boron ($^{[3]}B$) increases with increasing $B_2O_3$ content. While the spectra imply that the fraction of non-ring species decreases with decreasing boron content, peak position of the species is expected to vary with Na content. Therefore, the quantitative estimation of the fractions of the ring/non-ring species remains to be explored. The $^{11}B$ MAS NMR spectra of the glasses in the malinkoite-nepheline join show that four-coordinated boron ($^{[4]}B$) increases as $X_{Ma}$ [$=NaBSiO_4/(NaBSiO_4+NaAlSiO_4)$] increases while $^{[3]}B$ decreases. $^{27}Al$ MAS NMR spectra of the multicomponent glasses confirm that four-coordinated aluminum ($^{[4]}Al$) is dominant. It is also observed that a drastic decrease in the peak widths (full-width at half-maximum, FWHM) of $^{[4]}Al$ with an addition of boron ($X_{Ma}=0.25$) in nepheline glasses. This indicates a decrease in structural and topological disorder around $^{[4]}Al$ in the glasses with increasing boron content. The quantitative atomic environments around boron of both binary and multicomponent glasses were estimated from the simulation results of $^{11}B$ MAS NMR spectra, revealing complex-nonlinear variation of boron topology with varying composition. The current results can be potentially used to account for the structural origins of the change in macroscopic properties of boron-bearing oxide melts with varying boron content.
