In this study, to investigate the shape of the back bead as a weld quality parameter and to select the optimal condition of the root-pass TIG welding of a horizontal butt-joint, an experimental design and the response surface method (RSM) have been employed. Three parameters are used as input variables, which include the base current, peak current, and welding speed. The back bead width is selected as an output variable representing the weld quality, the target value of the width is 5.4 mm. Conducting the experiments according to the Box-Behnken experimental design, a $2^{nd}$ regression model for the back bead width was made, and the validation of the model was confirmed by using the F-test. The desirability function was designed through the nominal-the-best formula for the appropriate back bead width. Finally, the following optimal condition for welding was selected using the RSM: base current of 0.9204, peak current of 0.8676, and welding speed of 0.3776 in coded values. For verification, a test welding process under the optimal condition was executed and the result showed the back bead width of 5.38 mm that matched the target value well.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the environmental characteristics of fish acute toxicity that is dependent on the harmfulness of ACQ (Alkaline Copper Quat)-Treated Wood and Oryzias latipes mortality in a comprehensive way, provide objective verification method on the eco-toxicity and environment-friendliness of landscaping materials and methods, and utilize it as a basic datum for evaluation criteria. The main results are summarized as follows : 1. As a result of analysis on the harmfulness characteristics, each experimental plot showed different values respectively. In particular, it has been found that in proportion to the volume of testing materials, COD and Cu increases at a constant rate, compared to the input water. In the plot C with three testing materials, COD increased 67 times more than that of the input water, and Cu increased up to 12.36mg/L. 2. In case of fish toxicity, plot C, B, A all showed a mortality rate of 100%, indicating that fish toxicity is strong. In particular, the mortality rate of each plot within the initial time of one and a half hour showed clearly, which suggests that the fish toxicity is influenced by the increased concentration of hazardous substances depending on the volume ratio of testing materials. 3. As a result of comparison and analysis on the harmfulness and fish toxicity, the harmfulness showed different values on each experimental plot but, we found that the changing rate of values of toxicity of COD and Cu is mutually similar to that of mortality in the initial hour according to the experiment of fish toxicity, which shows that COD and Cu are major factors to increase fish toxicity.
The application of advanced Main Control Room(MCR) is accompanied with lots of changes and different forms and features through the virtue of new digital technologies. The characteristics of these digital technologies and devices give many opportunities to the interface management, and can be integrated into a compact single workstation in advanced MCR so that workers can operate the plant with minimum physical burden under any operation conditions. However, these devices may introduce new types of human errors and thus a means to evaluate and prevent such errors is needed, especially those related to characteristics of digital devices. This paper reviewed the new type of human error hazards of tasks based on digital devices and surveyed researches on physiological assessment related to human error. An experiment was performed to verify human error hazards by physiological responses such as EEG which was measured to evaluate the cognitive workload of operators. And also, the performances of four tasks which are representative in human error hazard tasks based on digital devices were compared. Response time, ${\beta}$ power spectrum rate of each task by EEG, and mental workload by NASA-TLX were evaluated. In the results of the experiment, the rate of the ${\beta}$ power was increased in the task 1 and task 4 which are searching and navigating task and memory task of hierarchical information, respectively. In case of the mental workload, in most of evaluation items, task 1 and 4 were highly rated comparatively. In this paper, human error hazards might be identified by highly cognitive workload. Conclusively, it was concluded that the predictive method which is utilized in this paper and an experimental verification can be used to ensure the safety when applying the digital devices in Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs).
This paper considers the issue of LSS(Liquid Spill Stopper)'s performance verification testing against external resisting force. The importance of the test is to ascertain the possibility of liquid spill stop quickly and efficiently by LSS. The method adopted in this research is the experimental device for puncture's inflow pressure and test the adhesive (magnetic) force on shell plates during the sailing. The major results of the paper are the followings : (a) The performance of LSS against 40 and 100mm diameter puncture was confirmed under 1.0bar. (b) LSS near bow detached first at 20.2 knots. This indicates that LSS can recover the damaged movability needed to naval warships' operation as well as merchant ships.

This study is dealt with the experimental seam strength of deep corrugated steel plate which is used as underpasses, storm sewers and other buried applications. The soil-metal structure using deep corrugated plate should be sufficient to ensure safety for compressive loading. The experimental and theoretical results on the seam strength are accumulated enough to take the design guideline, even if the seam strength at the bolt connected lap joint in construction site can be varied depending on the connection detailing and the thickness of plate. In this study, compressive behavior of bolted lap jointed plates using various connection detail such as gasket, slot hole, washer was experimentally analyzed. From the test, failure pattern with an increases in the thickness of specimens was changed from plate bearing to bolt shearing. In case of thicker plates than 6.0mm, the structural performance of lap joint using gasket and slot hole is more effective than it of the plate adopted washer.
Gas pressure regulators in pressure regulating station reduce high-pressure gas in a process line to a lower. Gas pressure regulators are not flow control devices, they are used to control delivery pressure only. For the safety of pressure regulating station, it is essential to study flow regime and characteristics of a safety valves that is connected to a pressure regulator. For this, it is necessary to understand flow characteristics and the flow rate of upstream component part such as gas pressure regulators in regulating station. In the present study, numerical analysis of flow characteristics and the mass flow rate of a pressure regulator is conducted under the several inlet, outlet conditions and open rates. Then, the numerical result of the mass flow rate is verified with experimental equation from manufacture of pressure regulator. Consequently, the numerical result is comparatively good agreement with values from experimental equation.

The flow stress of zircaloy-4 used in the spacer grid supporting a nuclear fuel rod was determined by the Johnson-Cook model, and model parameters were determined using reverse engineering. Parameters such as A, B, n and $\dot{\varepsilon}_0$ were determined by the tensile test result. To obtain the parameters C and m, a slot milling test and numerical simulation were performed. The objective functions were defined as the difference between the experimental and the simulation results, and then, the parameters were determined by minimizing the objective function. To verify the validity of the determined parameters, cross-verification for each case was conducted through a shearing test and simulation. The results tend to show agreement with the experimental results, such as the features of sheared edges and maximum punch force, with the correlation coefficients exceeding at least 0.97.
An electro hydraulic poppet valve (EHPV) and a variable orifice poppet are assembled in a single block, which is referred to as a RHINO but is also generally called a pilot-operated flow control valve. In this study, we analyzed the structure and the operating principle for a RHINO applied in a 21-ton electric excavator system. The RHINO was experimentally tested to measure the dynamic responses and the pressure energy loss. In this test, we investigated the variation in the conductance coefficient according to the increase in the supply pressure under a constant current and a variation in the flow rate according to the increase in the current. Then, the geometrical shapes and the spring stiffness of the RHINO were considered to develop an analysis model. The characteristics (current-force and hysteresis) for the solenoid based on the experimental data were reflected in the analysis model that was developed, and the reliability of the analysis model was also verified by comparing the experimental and analytical results. The developed model is thus considered to be reliable for use in a wide range of applications, including optimum design, sensitivity analysis, parameter tuning, etc.

A jet stream applied tangential to a curved surface in fluid increases lift force by strengthening circulation around the surface and this phenomenon is known as the Coanda effect. Many experimental and numerical studies have been performed on the Coanda effect and the results found to be useful in various fields of aerodynamics. Recently, preliminary studies on Coanda control surface are in progress to look for practical application in marine hydrodynamics since various control surfaces are used to control behaviors of ships and offshore structures. In the present study, the performance of a Coanda control surface with different geometries of the jet injection nozzle was surveyed to assess applicability to ship rudders. A numerical simulation was carried out to study flow characteristics around a section of a horn type rudder subjected to a tangential jet stream. The RANS equations, discretized by a cell-centered finite volume method were used for this computation after verification by comparing to the experimental data available. Special attentions have been given to the sensitivity of the lift performance of a Coanda rudder to the location of the slit (outlet) and intake of the gap between the horn and rudder surface at the various angles of attack. It is found that the location of the water intake is important in enhancing the lift because the gap functions as a conduit of nozzle generating a jet sheet on the rudder surface.
This study explored the educational effects of the digital citizenship teaching and learning model on middle school science classes. For this purpose, two classes of the third grade of middle school in Gyeonggi-do were selected, and the experimental group(28 students) was taught science classes using digital citizenship learning model, and the control group(28 students) was taught in regular lectures. The measurements used to verify the effects of science classes using the digital citizenship learning model were digital citizenship and empathy tools. The data collected for the effect verification were analyzed by independent sample t-test and ANCOVA. As a result, the experimental group applying the digital citizenship learning model showed higher scores of digital citizenship and empathy than the control group. Therefore, it can be seen that the middle school science class applying the digital citizenship learning model was effective in cultivating the digital citizenship and empathy of middle school students. In future studies, it is necessary to examine the effects of digital citizenship learning model at different school levels and other subjects.
