  • Recently, a lot of efforts have been made to satisfy noise and vibration performance requirements of rotating electric precision machines by the use of various numerical techniques. This paper looks into the enfluence of the magnetization pattern and the shape of air gap which play the role of primary variables of the electro-magnetic circuits, and finally, an experimental verification has been performed to illustrate the efficiency and the advantages or the optimal air gap shape minimizing the cogging torque.

  • This paper proposes a novel systematic modeling approach for an integrated single-stage power converter in order to predict its dynamic characteristics. The basic strategy of the proposed modeling is substituting the internal converters with an equivalent current source, and then deriving the dynamic equations under a standalone operation using the state-space averaging technique. The proposed approach provides an intuitive modeling solution and simplified mathematical process with accurate dynamic prediction. The simulation and experimental results by using an integrated boost-flyback converter prototype provide verification consistent with theoretical expectations.

  • MOV(Metal Oxide Varistor) is the most important part of SPD(Surge Protective Device) which can protect electric facilities from an impulse current such as a lightning. So far, the fault of MOVs have decided only by surge count without considering magnitude of surge current and an amount of input energy. This paper proposed the fault prediction algorithm for the MOV using look up table made by surge count and input current data which have non-linear characteristics for input current and are estimated by high voltage experimental results. Proposed algorithm was proved by experiment on verification at a high voltage laboratory.

  • During the magnetic abrasive polishing of a curved surface, the improvement in surface roughness varies with the maximum value and distribution of magnetic flux density. Thus, in this study, the magnetic flux density on the curved surface was simulated according to curvature radii of magnetic tool. As a result of the simulation, the 14.5mm of the magnetic tool had a higher maximum magnetic flux density and it showed a large weighted magnetic flux density. The weighted magnetic flux density means the highest value for the magnetic flux density in the curvature of the magnetic tool. From the experimental verification, the better improvement in surface roughness was observed on wider area at the 14.5mm radius of the magnetic tool than other radii.

  • To ensure the reliability of DVDR-P and DVD-ROM, it is imperative to remedy the unrecoverable creep deformation and/or relaxation of the holding force of an optical disc holder. To predict the deformation of an optical disc holder, a deformation analysis of an 80 mm optical disc holder considering the creep characteristics of 3 plastic materials has been conducted. Subsequently, the results by this Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are experimentally verified. A disc holder inserted in a cartridge case is kept in a chamber of $60^{\circ}C$ with 90 % humidity for 24 hours. The arm span and the holding force of the disc holder are measured after being left for another 24 successive hours at a room temperature and under normal humidity. The predicted results by FEA are in good agreement with experimentally measured values.

  • Although laser interferometer measurement system has the advantage of range and accuracy, the traditional error measurement methods for geometric errors(two straightness and three angular errors) of a machine tool measures error components one at a time. It may also create an optical path difference and affect the measurement accuracy. In order to identify and compensate for geometric error of a moving body, an on-line measurement system for simultaneous detection of the five error components of a moving axis is required. An on-line measurement system with 5 degrees of freedom was developed for geometric error detection. Performance verification of the system was performed on an error generating mechanism. Experimental results show the feasibility of this system for identifying geometric errors of a side of machine tool.

  • Vehicle interior noise is the results of numerous sources of excitation. One source involving tire pavement interaction is the tire cavity resonance and the forcing it provides to the vehicle spindle. Using a simplified model for the tire acoustic cavity system only, we formulated finite element equation to predict the fundamental acoustic cavity resonant characteristics inside tire-wheel assembly of undeformed and deformed tire. Combining the finite element analysis with experimental verification, we explained the acoustic characteristics theoretically. Especially, we have shown that the difference between the first two resonant frequencies increases as the deformation of deformed tire increases.

  • This paper is focused on design of a new active control engine mount (ACM), which is compact in size and cost effective. The ACM, consisting of an electrodynamic actuator as the active element, flat springs and a sliding ball joint, is different in structure from the previous ACM designs based on the conventional hydraulic engine mount. Dynamic characteristics of the proposed ACM are extensively investigated before a prototype ACM, which meets the design specifications, is built in the laboratory. For cost effectiveness, a feed-forward control algorithm without a feedback sensor is used for reduction of the transmitted force through the ACM from the engine. The prototype ACM is then harmonic-tested with a rubber testing machine for verification of its control performance as well as adequacy of modeling. Experimental results show that the proposed ACM is capable of reducing the transmitted force by 20 dB up to the frequency range of 60 Hz.

  • In this research, we investigated active vibration control based on wave-viewpoint using the longitudinal wave separation method. The control strategy is the one of active vibration control technique for generating vibration reduced zone and uses wave information including the directivity as the cost function. In order to get the wave information from the measured values, we proposed and examined the time-domain longitudinal wave separation method proper to real time application like active vibration control. Using the proposed method, we examine the performance and feasibility of active vibration control based wave view-point through the simulation. The related experimental verification and application is going to be expected in a near future.
