  • We propose a rotation invariant fingerprint identification system based on the circular harmonic filter(CHF) and binary phase extraction joint transform correlator(BPEJTC) for validation and security verification. It is shown that this system has the shift and rotation robust properties and can recognize the fingerprint in real-time. The complex circular harmonic filter, which is used to obtain the rotation invariance, is converted into the real-valued filter for real-time implementation. Experimental results show that this system has a good performance in the rotated fingerprints.

  • This paper addresses a face verification method using the nonlinear composite filter. This face verification process can be simple and speedy because it does not require any reprocessing such as face detection, alignment or cropping. The optimum nonlinear composite filter is derived by minimizing the output energy due to additive noise and an input scene while maintaining the outputs of training images constant. The filter is equipped with the discrimination capability and the robustness to additive noise by minimizing the outputs of the input scene and the noise, respectively. We build the nonlinear composite filter with two training images and compare the filter with the conventional synthetic discriminant function (SDF) filter. The receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves are presented as a metric for the performance evaluation. According to the experimental results the optimum nonlinear composite filter is shown to be a robust scheme for face verification in low resolution and noise environments.

  • This paper proposes the method to generate new test data using the sample shift of the start frame for SPRT(sequential probability ratio test) in speaker verification. The SPRT method is a effective algorithm that can reduce the test computational complexity. However, in making the decision procedure, SPRT can be executed on the assumption that the input samples are usually to be i.i.d. (Independent and Identically Distributed) samples from a probability density function (pdf), also it's not suitable method to apply for the short utterance. The proposed method can achieve SPRT regardless of the utterance length of the test data because it is method to generate the new test data through the sample shift of start frame. Also, the correlation property of data to be considered in the SPRT method can be effectively removed by employing the principal component analysis. Experimental results show that the proposed method increased the computational complexity of data for sample shift a little, but it has a good performance result more than a conventional method above the average 0.7% in EER (equal error rate).

  • In this paper, we suggest a efficient handwritten character verification method in on-line environments which automatically analyses two input character string and computes their similarity degrees. The proposed algorithm first applies the circular projection method to input handwritten strings and extracts their representative features including shape, directions, etc. It then calculates the similarity between two character strings by using an improved dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm. We improved the conventional DTW algorithm efficiently through adopting the branch-and-bound policy to the existing DTW algorithm which is well-known to produce good results in the various optimization problems. The experimental results to verify the performance of the proposed system show that the suggested handwritten character verification method operates more efficiently than the existing DTW and DDTW algorithms in terms of the speed.

  • This paper was studied on the problem of field inspection tester of the photoelectric type smoke detector. The experiment objects were chosen 3 type's testers such as A type (incense), B type (dimethylpolysiloxane), C type (mixtures of hydrocarbon) which were used for performance checking of the photoelectric type smoke detector for the fire protection. The experimental methods were used reliability verification experiment, performance verification experiment and performance change of fire detector by smoke component. It was confirmed through the experiment that the testers had problems of smoke concentration condition and wind velocity condition and smoke component. Consequently, this paper verified that the field inspection testers of the photoelectric type smoke detector had problems in the inspection of fire protection.

  • Modeling and simulation is a technique used for operational verification, performance analysis, operational optimization, and prediction of target systems. Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) of this representative technology defines models with a strict formalism and stratifies the structures between the models. When the atomic DEVS models operate with an intention different the target system, the simulation may lead to erroneous decision-making. However, most DEVS systems have the exclusion of the model test or provision of the manual test, so developers spend a lot of time verifying the atomic models. In this paper, we propose a script-based automated test system for accurate and fast validation of atomic models in Python-based DEVS. The proposed system uses both the existing method of manual testing and the new method of the script-based testing. As Experimental results in our system, the script-based test method was executed within 24 millisecond when the script was executed 10 times consecutively. Thus, the proposed system guarantees a fast verification time of the atomic models in our script-based test and improves the reusability of the test script.

  • This study is on the structural control experiment for a small scale three-story building structure employing on active mass damper subjected to earthquake loading. $\mu$-synthesis controllers, which belong to robust control strategies, were designed and their performance were experimentally verified. Frequency-dependent weighting functions corresponding to disturbance input and controlled output were defined and combined to produce optimal $\mu$-synthesis controllers. The experiment result shows 60-70% reduction in RMS responses under the band-limited white noise excitation and 30-45% reduction in peak responses under the scaled earthquake excitations. Good agreement was obtained between the simulations based on the identified mathematical model and experimental results. And the simulations for the system with uncertainties show that the designed controllers are robust within a specified range of uncertainties.

  • In this study, we investigated the state of $Y_2O_3$, as a major additive element in Fe-based ODS alloys, during mechanical alloying (MA) processes by thermodynamic approaches and experimental verification. For this purpose, we introduced $Ti_2O_3$ that formed different reaction products depending on the state of $Y_2O_3$ into the Fe-based ODS alloys. In addition, the reaction products of $Ti_2O_3$, Y, and $Y_2O_3$ powders were predicted approximately based on their formation enthalpy. The experimental results relating to the formation of Y-based complex oxides revealed that $YTiO_3$ and $Y_2Ti_2O_7$ were formed when $Ti_2O_3$ reacted with Y; in contrast, only $Y_2Ti_2O_7$ was detected during the reaction between $Ti_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$. In the alloy of $Fe-Cr-Y_2O_3$ with $Ti_2O_3$, $YTiO_3$ (formed by the reaction of $Ti_2O_3$ with Y) was detected after the MA and heat treatment processes were complete, even though $Y_2O_3$ was present in the system. Using these results, it was proved that $Y_2O_3$ decomposed into monoatomic Y and O during the MA process.

  • In this paper, we propose a new type of process discovery framework, which is named as control-path-driven process group discovery framework, to be used for process mining and process reengineering in supporting life-cycle management of business process models. In addition, we develop a process mining system based on the proposed framework and perform experimental verification through it. The process execution event logs applied to the experimental effectiveness and verification are specially defined as Process BIG-Logs, and we use it as the input datasets for the proposed discovery framework. As an eventual goal of this paper, we design and implement a control path-driven process group discovery algorithm and framework that is improved from the ρ-algorithm, and we try to verify the functional correctness of the proposed algorithm and framework by using the implemented system with a BIG-Log dataset. Note that all the process mining algorithm, framework, and system developed in this paper are based on the structural information control net process modeling methodology.

  • In this experimental paper, the maximum scour depth at pier was student. The model of the pier of San Gye bridge in the Bocheong stream was set for the experimental studies. Several model verification processes were conducted through the roughness comparisons between model and prototype, pursuing scour depth variations with time depending upon channel bed variation, the comparison of the ratios between falling velocities and shear velocities in the model and prototype, and the comparison of pier scour depths between experimental data and field measuring data. The experiments were conducted in the free flow conditions and pressure flow conditions. The maximum scour depth at piers in the pressure flow conditions is almost twice as much as compared to the free flow conditions. Also, the maximum scour depth variations are indicated in the figures based on the Froude numbers, opening ratios, water depths and approaching angles in the free surface flow conditions.
