  • Since the AESA radar scans and tracks a distant targets or ground, it requires a test field which meets far-field condition before flight test. In order to test beam foaming, targeting, and availability from cluttering and jamming, it is general to build a outdoor roof-lab test site at tens of meters high. However, the site is affected by surrounding terrain, weather, and noise wave and is also requires time, space, and a lot of costs. In order to solve this problem, theoretical near-field beam foaming method has proposed. However, it requires modification of associated hardware in order to construct near-field test configuration. In this paper, we propose near-field beam foaming method which use single LUT in order to calibrate the variation of TRM(transmit-receive module) which consists AESA radar without modification of associated hardware and software. It requires less costs than far-field test and multiple LUT based near-field test, nevertheless it can derives similar experimental results.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) and Visible Light Communication (VLC) is opening up new services in lighting industry by integrating sensory network features in addition to standard illumination functionality. In this progressive developments, the next generation lighting devices for smart homes are capable to sense the environmental conditions and transfer the captured data through lights to gateway controller to access remotely. The smart home environmental sensor information's are few kbps only so VLC systems need to built-in with low rate light connectivity to transfer data to the gateway. To provide error free communication, the quality of a received light signal is important to be considered when designing an VLC receiver. Therefore, this paper proposes the design of robust low rate IoL receiver design using NCP302 voltage detector for micro controller to adapt the IoT/IoL front end module for system integration. To evaluate the proposed system performance, the Arduino UNO based IoT/IoL controller designed with lighting, sensors and lights connectivity interfaces. The experimental result shows that the robust interference rejection is feasible on proposed VOL receiver and possible to have an error-free communication up to 10 kbps at a low SNR using OOK modulation.

  • Recently, the development of rehabilitation medical technology has resulted in an increased interest in speech therapy equipment. In particular, research on articulation therapy for communication disorders is being actively conducted. Existing methods for the diagnosis and treatment of speech disorders have many limitations, such as traditional tactile perception tests and methods based on empirical judgment of speech therapists. Moreover, the position and tension of the tongue are key factors of speech disorders with regards to articulation. This is a very important factor in the distinction of Korean characters such as lax, fortis, and aspirated consonants. In this study, we proposed a Korean electropalatography (EPG) system to easily measure and monitor the position and tension of the tongue in articulation treatment and diagnosis. In the proposed EPG system, a sensor was fabricated using an AgCl electrode and biocompatible silicon. Furthermore, the measured signal was analyzed by implementing the bio-signal processing module and monitoring program. In particular, the bio-signal was measured by inserting it into the palatal from an experimental control group. As a result, it was confirmed that it could be applied to clinical treatment in speech therapy.

  • Objective: To investigate serum 25-hydroxyl vitamin D (25(OH)D) and vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP) concentrations in women with endometriosis according to the severity of disease. Methods: Women with mild endometriosis (n = 9) and advanced endometriosis (n = 7), as well as healthy controls (n = 16), were enrolled in this observational study. Serum total 25(OH)D concentrations were analyzed using the Elecsys vitamin D total kit with the Cobas e602 module. Concentrations of bioavailable and free 25(OH)D were calculated. Concentrations of VDBP were measured using the Human Vitamin D BP Quantikine ELISA kit. Variables were tested for normality and homoscedasticity using the Shapiro-Wilk test and Leven F test, respectively. Correlation analysis was used to identify the variables related to total 25(OH)D and VDBP levels. To assess the effects of total 25(OH)D and VDBP levels in the three groups, multivariate generalized additive modeling (GAM) was performed. Results: Gravidity and parity were significantly different across the three groups. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and CA-125 levels increased as a function of endometriosis severity, respectively (p= 0.051, p= 0.004). The correlation analysis showed that total 25(OH)D levels were positively correlated with gravidity (r = 0.59, p< 0.001) and parity (r = 0.51, p< 0.003). Multivariate GAM showed no significant relationship of total 25(OH)D levels with EMT severity after adjusting for gravidity and ESR. However, the coefficient of total 25(OH)D levels with gravidity was significant (1.87; 95% confidence interval, 0.12-3.63; p= 0.040). Conclusion: These results indicate that vitamin D and VDBP levels were not associated with the severity of endometriosis.

  • We propose a system that allows three dimensional manipulation of face in video. The 3D face manipulation of the proposed system overlays the 3D face model with the user 's manipulation on the face region of the video frame, and it allows 3D manipulation of the video in real time unlike existing applications or methods. To achieve this feature, first, the 3D morphable face model is registered with the image. At the same time, user's manipulation is applied to the registered model. Finally, the frame image mapped to the model as texture, and the texture-mapped and deformed model is rendered. Since this process requires lots of operations, parallel processing is adopted for real-time processing; the system is divided into modules according to functionalities, and each module runs in parallel on each thread. Experimental results show that specific parts of the face in video can be manipulated in real time.

  • Stiffness characteristic of subgrade is one of the most important aspects for the design and evaluation of pavement and railway. However, adequate field testing methods for evaluating the stiffness characteristics of the subgrade have not been developed yet. In this study, an in-situ dynamic stiffness analyzer (IDSA) is developed to evaluate the characteristics of subgrade stiffness along the depth, and its performance is evaluated in elastic materials and a compacted soil. The IDSA consists of a falling hammer system, a connecting rod, and a tip module. Four strain gauges and an accelerometer are installed at the tip of the rod to analyze the dynamic response of the tip generated by the drop of hammer. Based on the Boussinesq's method, the stiffness and Young's modulus of the specimens can be calculated. The performance of IDSA was tested on three elastic materials with different hardness and a compacted soil. For the repeatability of test performance, the dynamic signals for force and displacement of the tip are averaged from the hammer impact tests performed five times at the same drop height. The experimental results show that the peak force, peak displacement, and the duration depend on the hardness of the elastic materials. After calculating the stiffness and elastic modulus, it is revealed that as the drop height of hammer increases, the stiffness and elastic moduli of MC nylon and the compacted soil rapidly increase, while those of urethanes less increase.

  • In this investigation, we describe a chromatic confocal sensor based on a geometric phase lens for measuring the thicknesses of transparent plates. In order to design a compact sensor, a geometric phase lens, which has diffractive and polarizing characteristics, is used as a device to generate chromatic aberration, and a fiber optic module is adopted. The systematic error of the sensor is reduced with wavelength peak detection by Gaussian curve fitting and the common error compensation obtained by the repeatedly consecutive experimental results. An approach to calculate the plate thickness is derived and verified with sapphire and BK7 plates. Because of the simple and compact design of the proposed sensor with rapid measurement capability, it is expected to be widely used in thickness measurements of transparent plates as an alternative to traditional approaches.

  • Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) is a serine-threonine kinase member of the cellular phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway, which is involved in multiple biological functions by transcriptional and translational control. mTOR is a downstream mediator in the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and plays a critical role in cell survival. In cancer, this pathway can be activated by membrane receptors, including the HER (or ErbB) family of growth factor receptors, the insulin-like growth factor receptor, and the estrogen receptor. In the present work, we congregated an electronic network of mTORC1 built on an assembly of data using natural language processing, consisting of 470 edges (activations/interactions and/or inhibitions) and 206 nodes representing genes/proteins, using the Cytoscape 3.6.0 editor and its plugins for analysis. The experimental design included the extraction of gene expression data related to five distinct types of cancers, namely, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, hepatic cirrhosis, cervical cancer, glioblastoma, and anaplastic thyroid cancer from Gene Expression Omnibus (NCBI GEO) followed by pre-processing and normalization of the data using R & Bioconductor. ExprEssence plugin was used for network condensation to identify differentially expressed genes across the gene expression samples. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis was performed to find out the over-represented GO terms in the network. In addition, pathway enrichment and functional module analysis of the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network were also conducted. Our results indicated NOTCH1, NOTCH3, FLCN, SOD1, SOD2, NF1, and TLR4 as upregulated proteins in different cancer types highlighting their role in cancer progression. The MCODE analysis identified gene clusters for each cancer type with MYC, PCNA, PARP1, IDH1, FGF10, PTEN, and CCND1 as hub genes with high connectivity. MYC for cervical cancer, IDH1 for hepatic cirrhosis, MGMT for glioblastoma and CCND1 for anaplastic thyroid cancer were identified as genes with prognostic importance using survival analysis.

  • Recently, the capacity of video content delivery services has been increasing significantly. Therefore, the importance of user recommendation is increasing. In addition, these contents contain a variety of characteristics, making it difficult to express the characteristics of the content properly only with a few keywords(Elements used in the search, such as titles, tags, topics, words, etc.) specified by the user. Consequently, existing recommendation systems that use user-defined keywords have limitations that do not properly reflect the characteristics of objects. In this paper, we compare the efficiency of between a method using voice data-based subtitles and an image comparison method using keyframes of images in recommendation module of educational video service systems. Furthermore, we propose the types and environments of video content in which each analysis technique can be efficiently utilized through experimental results.

  • In this paper, WBG semiconductor such as SiC and GaN were applied as power switches for LCL circuit that can be applied to satellite power systems and the test results of the LCL circuit are reported. P-channel MOSFET and N-channel MOSFET, which were generally used in the conventional LCL circuit, were applied together to expand the utility of the test results. The design and stability evaluation were performed using a Micro Cap circuit simulation program. For the test circuit, a module using each switch was manufactured, and a total of 5 modules were manufactured and the steady state and transient state characteristics were compared. From the experimental results, the LCL circuit for power supply of the satellite power system constructed in this paper satisfied the constant current and constant voltage conditions under various operating conditions. The P-channel MOSFET showed the lowest efficiency characteristics, and the three N-channel switches of Si, SiC and GaN showed relatively high efficiency characteristics of up to 99.05% or more. In conclusion, it was verified that the on-resistor of the switch had a direct effect on the efficiency and loss characteristics.
