Quench and recovery process of high-temperature -superconductor (HTS) film deposited on the sapphire substrate is studied numerically. The quench is developed by fault current and the superconductivity is recovered by convection of heat into coolant. After the fault current, the HTS film experiences the quench state, current sharing state, and finally recovers the superconductivity. Numerical results of this study are compared to the previous experimental results, and shows that this numerical work can explain the mechanism of quench/recovery characteristics of HTS film.

The purpose of this paper is to study heat transfer characteristics of rotating heat pipe with tapered condensers by numerical analysis and experimental method. An experimental investigation has been carried out on thermal resistance between condenser wall and vapor region fo the rotating heat pipe with various taper 0, 1/11.4, 1/38. Heat transfer characteristics by analytical study were applied to describe various Nu numbers on the base of dimensionless condensate film, Re and Pr numbers in both condensers. Comparison between calculated results and experimental data showed qualitatively good agreement and the numerical analysis of this study can be utilized to predict the performance of a rotating heat pipe. The thermal resistance can be decreased by increasing the revolution per minute. Regardless of various dimensionless condensate film, Nu number was largely influenced by saturation temperatures of working fluid.

The present study investigated experimentally and numerically the enhancement of absorption performance due to the waviness of falling film in the vertical absorber tube. The momentum, energy and mass diffusion equations were utilized to find out temperature and concentration profiles at both the interfaces of liquid solution and refrigerant vapor and the wall. Flow visualization was performed to find out the wetting characteristics of the falling film. The maximum heat transfer coefficient was obtained for the wavy flow using spring as an insert device through both numerical and experimental studies. Based on the numerical and experimental results, the maximum absorption rate was found for the wavy-flow using spring as the insert device. The differences between experimental and analytical results ranged from $5.0\;to\;25\%\;when\;Re_j>100$.

The condonation models in the standard RELAP5/MOD3.2 code are assessed and improved based on the database, which is constructed from the previous experimental data on various condonation phenomena The default model the laminar film condonation in RELAP5/MOD3.2 does not give any reliable predictions, and its alternative model always predicts higher values than the experimental data Therefore, it is needed to develop a new correlation based on the experimental data of various operating ranges in the constructed database. The Shah correlation, which is used to calculate the turbulent film condensation heat transfer coefficients in the standard RELAP5/MOD3.2, well predicts the experimental data in the database. The horizontally stratified condonation model of RELAP5/MOD3.2 overpredicts both cocurrent and countercurrent experimental data The correlation proposed by H.J.Kim predicts the database relatively well compared with that of RELAP5/MOD3.2 The RELAP5/MOD3.2 model should use the liquid velocity for the calculation of the liquid Reynolds number and be modified to conifer the effects of the gas velocity and the film thickness.

An experimental study has been conducted to measure the temperature fields and the local film cooling effectiveness for two and three staggered rows of the rectangular shaped-holes with various blowing rates. The hydraulic diameter of rectangular-shaped hole is 10mm. To compare with the film cooling performance of rectangular-shaped hole, two kinds of circular holes are tested. One has the same hydraulic diameter as the rectangular hole and the other has the same cross sectional area. Also, rectangular holes with expanded exit with same inlet area as rectangular ones are tested. Temperature fields are measured using a thermocouple rake attached on three-axis traversing system. Adiabatic film cooling effectiveness on the surface are obtained based on experimental results of thermochromic liquid crystals. The film cooling effectiveness is measured for various blowing rates and compared with the results for the cylindrical holes. In case of 2 rows, the rectangular holes has better performance than circular holes due to its slot-like geometry. In case of 3 rows, the effecta of hole shape is not clear.

Until recently, almost all ETFE film structures that have been erected is the cushion type because there are problems at lower allowable strength under elastic range and viscosity behaviour such as creep and relaxation of ETFE films under long-term stresses. But the number of tension type structures is currently increasing. This paper proposes the stretch fabrication of ETFE film to verify the applicability of ETFE films to tensile membrane structures. First of all, to investigate the possibility of application on tensile membrane structures, the stretch fabrication test is carried out, and it is verified that it is possible to increase the yield strength of the film membrane structures. After simulating the experiment also carries out an analytical investigation, and the effectiveness of the elasto-plastic analysis considering the viscous behavior of the film is investigated. Finally, post-aging tension measurement is conducted at the experimental facilities, and the viscosity behavior resulting from relaxation is investigated with respect to tensile membrane structures.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the absorbing characteristics in a vertical falling film type absorber using LiBr-H$H_2O$ solution as working fluids with the concentration of 60 wt%. The experimental apparatus consists of an absorber with the diameter of 17.2 mm and the length of 1150 mm, a generator, an evaporator (condenser), a weak solution tank and a sampling trap device and so on. The parameters were the solution temperatures of 45 and 50$^{\circ}$C, coolant temperatures of 30 and 35$^{\circ}$C, and the film Reynolds numbers from 50 to 150. The pressure drop in the absorber increased as the solution and coolant temperatures decreased. The pressure drop in the absorber increased up to the film Reynolds number of 90, however, decreased at the film Reynolds number above 90. The maximum absorption mass flux was observed at the film Reynolds number of 90. Absorption mass fluxes increased as the coolant temperature decreased. Accordingly, absorption mass fluxes and heat transfer coefficients under the subcooled condition increased more than those under the superheated condition. It is claimed that heat transfer coefficients are deeply affected by the solution temperature more than the coolant temperature within the experimental range.

It has been investigated for the film uniformity and deposition rate of a-C:H films on glass substrate and polymeric materials in the presence of the modulated crossed magnetic field. We used Plasma CVD, i.e, using a crossed electromagnetic field, for uniform depositing thin film. The optimum discharge condition has been discussed for the gas pressure, the magnetic flux density and the distance between substrate and electrodes, As a result, it is found that the optimum discharge conditions are $CH_4$ concentration $CH_4$=10 %, modulated magnetic flux density B=48 Gauss, pressure P=100 mTorr, discharge power supply voltage V=l kV under these experimental conditions. By using these experimental condition, it is possible to prepare the most uniform film extends over about 160 mm of the film width. In this study, we deposited a-C:H thin film on glass substrate, and have a plan that using this condition, study depositing a-C:H thin film on polymeric substrate in next studies.

In this study, measurement of thermal conductivity of multilayer thin dielectric film has been conducted via differential $3\omega$ method. Also, verification of differential $3\omega$ method has been accomplished with various proposed criteria. The target film for the measurement is 300 nm thick silicon dioxide which is covered with upper protective layer of various thicknesses. The upper protective layer is inserted between the target film and the heater line for purpose of electrical insulator or anti-oxidation barrier since the target film may be a good electrical conductor or a well-oxidizing material. Since the verification of differential $3\omega$ method has not been conducted yet, we have shown that the measurement of thermal conductivity of thin films with upper protective layer via differential $3\omega$ method is verified to be reliable as long as the proposed preconditions of the samples are satisfied. Experimental results show that the experimental errors tend to increase with aspect ratio between thickness of the upper protective layer and width of the heater line due to heat spreading effect.
