Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the predictors of clinical competence in new graduate nurses. Methods: The subjects of this study were 238 nurses at 13 general hospitals who have had less than 12 months of nursing experience. The data were collected by structured questionnaire from August 5 to August 31 of 2009 and analyzed by the SPSS Win 12.0 program. Results: The total mean score for clinical competence was $181.05{\pm}15.17$, critical thinking disposition was $94.65{\pm}8.12$, and practice environment was $41.00{\pm}5.55$. There were significant differences of clinical competence according to the GPA (t=-3.58, p<.001), the number of beds in the hospital (t=-3.22, p=.001), instruction by preceptor (t=-2.32, p=.021), and previous experience of clinical practice in the hospital (t=-2.21, p=.028). Additionally, critical thinking disposition and practice environment were positively correlated to clinical competence (r=.50, p<.001; r=.20, p=.002). In multivariate approach, predictors included in this study explained 43% of variance in clinical competence. Significant predictors of clinical competence were critical thinking disposition ($\beta=.50$, p<.001), practice environment ($\beta=.14$, p=.012), and working duration ($\beta=.13$, p=.018). Conclusions: Based on these findings, it is needed that providing supportive practice environment and developing curriculum for enhancing the critical thinking disposition to improve the clinical competence in new graduate nurses.
Purpose: Knowledge on pathophysiology is important to understand diseases and patient conditions and also in providing advanced nursing care. This study was performed to investigate the present situation, knowledge, and educational need on pathophyiology of advanced practice nurses(APN). Method: Eighty-four APN, who is practicing in hospitals nationwide, were surveyed with structured questionnaires developed by researchers. The questionnaire were composed of 109 items with 4 point scales with the contents of general characteristics, educational experience on pathophyisology, educational need, and knowledge on major and subcategories of pathophysiology. Result: The 77.1% of APN had experience of taking pathophysiology lecture and the lecturer were mainly medical doctors(39.8%) and APN(32.4%). The 61.5% of APN answered that the knowledge on pathophysiology was helpful and 97.6% of APN thought pathphysiologic education is needed in clinical practice. Seven major categories of pathophysiology showed higher scores were water imbalance, heart diseases, hemodynamic disorders, arterial vessel disorders, electrolyte imbalance, diseases of the digestive system, and diseases of the respiratory systems. Educational needs on the major and subcategories of pathphysiology were different by the field of APN and also by the clinical experiences as APN. APN also responded that there is a necessity to change the present curricular more specific to each practice field and more focus on the clinical practice. Conclusion: It was confirmed that educational and clinical need on the pathophysiology is very high and there is urgent need to change current curricular more specific to the field of APN and also clinical practice. This survey will help to identify and clarify the areas of change and to improve the education for the APN.
Purpose: This study examined the mediating effects of nursing professionalism on the relationship between the stress of clinical practice and compassion competence in nursing students. Methods: A correlational research design was used in this study. The participants were 120 nursing students recruited from three universities in South Korea. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore preceptees' experience among nursing students in the Clinical Nursing Practice program as integral practice. Specific aims were to identify problems students face as preceptees at a clinical practice and how they interact with preceptors and others. Methods: Grounded theory methodology was utilized. Data were collected from interactive field notes and transcribed notes with individual in-depth interview from 12 senior nursing students who had experiences as a preceptee in the Clinical Nursing Practice. Results: Through constant comparative analysis, a core category emerged as "Being refined while taking a firm stand with lack." The process of "Being refined while taking a firm stand with lack" consisted of four phases: sailing phase, adaptation phase, achievement phase and wistful returning phase. Conclusion: The findings of the study indicate that there is a need for nursing students to understand the limitations and strengths to learning experiences in preceptorship. In addition, the Clinical Nursing Practice as an integral practice program is needed to improve nursing capacity and for proper adaptation to real clinical environment among graduating students.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the types of perception toward non-face-to-face clinical practice and to characterize the types of students who experienced online clinical practice during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: Q-methodology was used in this study, and 270 Q populations were formed based on in-depth interviews with 10 nursing students who had experienced non-face-to-face clinical practice, as well as related literature. Interviews were performed from August 1 to 31, 2022. A total of 42 Q samples were extracted, and Q sorting was performed on 33 nursing students who had experienced non-face-to-face clinical practice. A Q factor analysis was performed using the PC-QUANL program. Results: The nursing students' perceptions of non-face-to-face clinical practice were classified into the following five types: "future professional competency-focused type," "realistic convenience priority type," "task burden awareness type," "negative critic type," and "limited experience dissatisfaction type." Conclusion: This study revealed non-face-to-face clinical practice's positive and negative aspects in nursing education. Moreover, it identified the aspects of clinical practice that cannot be replaced by non-face-to-face clinical practice and the elements of non-face-to-face practice that can complement clinical practice. These findings can be used as fundamental data to establish a stable and efficient system for improving the quality of clinical practice in the post-COVID-19 era and to implement effective non-face-to-face clinical practice according to student types.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare satisfaction of practice and clinical skill in different participation learning and observation learning, and to offer the basic data to promote quality of nursing education. Experience group was taught by hand-on education and control group was taught by conventional education. The instrument tools included self-efficacy, satisfaction of practice and clinical skill. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS-PC programme. Result: The results of this study were as follows: There was statistically a significance difference between the two group about satisfaction of practice(t=2.011 p=.043), and clinical skill(t=11.997, p=.000). Self-efficacy showed a significantly positive correlation with satisfaction of practice(r=.476, p=.000) and clinical skill(r=.178, p=.014). Also, satisfaction of practice showed a significantly positive correlation with clinical skill(r=.l82, p=.000). Conclusion: In conclusion, this study suggests that hand-on education is an effective learning method to nursing students. By utilizing hand-on education, makes nursing students plan self-directed nursing performance and improve their clinical skills.
