  • The member with external unbonded tendon has two remarkable characteristics, i.e., eccentricity variation and slip by friction force at deviators, compared with internal bonded or unbonded member. An efficient numerical procedure for the nonlinear analysis of prestressed concrete beam with external unbonded tendon considering two remarkable characteristics is formulated and corresponding computer code is developed. On the basis of statistical process of parametric study results, strain compatibility method, eccentricity variation predictor and tendon stress predictor at ultimate state are proposed and verified with test results and existing Codes, which can evaluate flexural behavior at ultimate state. Finally, the proposed procedure and predictors can be efficiently used for the realistic and accurate analysis of prestressed concrete members with external unbonded tendons.

  • Since regulation or specification for the reinforcing method are quite ambiguous, structural design for the reinforcement can be subjectively and arbitrarily conducted. Thus, reasonable limitation and guide for the quantity of the reinforcement are required for the safe use of the structure after repair. In order to guarantee the safety of the structural member several items should be considered; reinforcing limit to avoid the brittle failure, least required strength of the existing member before reinforcement in order not to fail under the new serviceability load condition when reinforcing steel plates or CFRP sheets are harmed or subjected to fire.

  • On this condition of steel bridge member having a crack, occasionaly it is improssible to measure of stress history and to extract test specimen. Under this situation, tried to estimate remaining service life from statistical data on traffic and existing results of fatigue test without measuring of stress history and fatigue test. The main results are as following (1) Stress history of simple beam estimated from Montecallo simulation method with probabilistic model of traffic can be use to estimate remaining fatigue life instead of measuring of stress history. (2) In such a case measuring of remaining fatigue life at bridge member haying a crack, influences of RMS model and RMC model on fatigue crack growth rate are not differ without difference of applied stress range. (3) Application of cut off method may be overestimate remaining fatigue life.

  • In order to survive in turbulent and competitive markets, automotive part manufacturers try efforts to develop new manufacturing technologies for ultra-lightweight, high-intensity and environmentally-friendly parts. Most of front lower arm is manufactured by welding process between upper- and lower panel which are produced by press stamping process. Because lower arm mounted on the cross member parts is one of the important complementary parts. So, to improve safety and lightweight of these parts, hybrid technologies are used in this paper. As hybrid technologies are applied to be front sub-frame, rear cross member and other chassis parts as well as front lower arm, the 20% lightweight has been achieved compared with existing steel parts.

  • In this study, the steel strip reinforcement bolted with braced angles is displayed skin friction resistance as well as passive resistance through existing the steel strip reinforcement. To understand pullout behavior characteristics, friction effects between soil and reinforcement are evaluated with the width of reinforcement, magnitude of surcharge, and existence of passive resistance member through laboratory pullout test. To analyze interference effects for passive resistance member, various tests are carried on case that the number, the location, and the spacing of braced angles are different. Using this test result, pullout resistance factor is calculated to consider location of braced angles and degree of interference for spacing ratio.

  • A virtual locator is a logical locator based on the contents of a physical locator. These contents can be existing member properties in the physical locator. Using virtual locator, we can accomplish personalization which is the technology area associated most often with CRM. In this study, however, what are called virtual locators in many OLAP models would be treated as physical locators for many unique aggregation levels. By using physical locators, we can bring a successful e-business.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the reinforcement effect of the RC compressive member confined with carbon fiber sheets and to suggest better transverse confinement coefficient(k$_1$) than one's in the existing analysis equations. Showing amounts of CPS in terms of ratio of transverse reinforcement to cross-section, it comes to be possible to calculate the objective and quantitative reinforcement amounts and to estimate the overlapping length of CFS that can influence on all its confinement effect. The previous parameters were compared using the existing experimental test data, then analyzed for the merits and demerits of existing parameters through the coefficient of correlation(R). The proposed parameters were derived in such a way that established parameters and their combination were obtained from the analytical study and then determined by regression analysis using the previous test data.

  • The capacity of tubular truss chords subjected to concentrated reaction forces in the vicinity of the open end (i.e., the bearing region) is not directly treated by existing design specifications; although capacity equations are promulgated for related tubular joint configurations. The lack of direct treatment of bearing capacity in existing design specifications seems to represent an unsatisfactory situation given the fact that connections very often control the design of long-span tubular structures comprised of members with slender cross-sections. The case of the simple-span overhead highway sign truss is studied, in which the bearing reaction is applied near the chord end. The present research is aimed at assessing the validity of adapting existing specifications' capacity equations from related cases so as to be applicable in determining design capacity in tubular truss bearing regions. These modified capacity equations are subsequently used in comparisons with full-scale experimental results obtained from testing carried out at the University of Pittsburgh.

  • This study develops practical models and methods for the assessment of safety and capacity rating of existing P.C. girder bridges based on the reliability methods. One of the main objectives of the study is to propose a practical but realistic limit state model for safety assessment and LRFR rating criteria, which explicitly incorporates the degree of deterioration and damage as well as actual condition of P.C. girder bridges in terms of the damage factor and the response ratio. The damage factor proposed in the paper is defined as the ratio of the current estimated stiffness to the intact base-line stiffness of a member. Based on the observation and the results of applications to existing bridges, it may be concluded that the proposed methods for the assessment and capacity rating models, which explicitly account for the uncertainties and effects of degree of deterioration or damage, provide more realistic and consistent safety-assessment and capacity rating.

  • The member deflection is one of the most important considerations for the serviceability evaluation of reinforced concrete (RC) structures, and the concept of the effective moment of inertia has been generally used for its estimation. However, the actual service load applied on an existing RC beam may not be easily obtained, for which the estimation of beam deflection by existing methods can be difficult to obtain. Therefore, based on the correlation between cracks and deflection in a RC beam, this study proposed a method to estimate the deflection of RC beams directly from the condition of cracks not using the actual loads acting on the member as its input data. The proposed method extensively utilized the relationships among sums of crack widths, average strains, and curvatures, and modification factors obtained from regression analysis were also introduced to improve its accuracy. The deflections of members were successfully estimated by the proposed method independent from applied loads, which was also easy to apply compared to the existing methods based on the effective moment of inertia.
