The Concept of Hardiness : A Review of the Literature for Nursing (강인성 (hardiness)에 대한 문헌고찰)

  • The purposes of this literature review were to identify the theoretical basis and components of the concept hardiness, trends in the study of hardiness it's application in nursing and issues in measurement. The concept of hardiness has been derived deductively from existential psychology and is composed of three components, control, commitment and challenge. In research, the characteristic of hardiness has been demonstrated as a motivating factor in resolving stressful situations and in adapting to actual health problems. With regard to the measurement of hardiness, because of it's low level of predictability related to health outcomes, it is recommanded that the component of be omited from the concept of hardiness. On the basis of this literature review, the following suggestions are proposed. 1. Considering the lack of empirical suport, the theory of hardiness needs to be evaluated. 2. There is a need for further study of hardiness in a broad variety of populations. 3. A valid, reliable and culturally appropriate instrument needs to be developed for health related research. 4. Analysis is needed of the relationship between hardiness and stress-resistance, and of the factors related to both.

  • This is a study on the dualism of gender through the costume in the Middle Age. Jeanne d'Arc was an existential person in the Hundred Year's war(1338-1453). She persisted in retaining male attire and armour at her own request. One of the points for which she had been condemned was the wearing of male apparel. It was judged as an evil spirit and rendered Jeanne a witch and a heretic therefore she was burned to death in the market place at Rouen, on the 30th May, 1431. It is one of the evidence which represent dualism of gender through the costume.

  • Psychological phenomenon of human beings that are considered as creation of symbols endues various meanings to the objects and through this process, it develops society, culture and religion. This paper aims to examine the relationship between objects and human beings in the current circumstances that are summarized as "Pluralism" and "Age of Consumption". For this purpose, I introduced the semiology system and established the concept that is "Consumption of Meaning". The method that the meaning of goods as the modern objects is consumed is defined through three meaning analyses that are social, psychological and cultural. In addition, as defining how an object have its unique meaning, this paper creates the new interpretation on the role of industrial design that searches and constructs the existential area in the real world related to the creation and adjustment of meanings.

Understanding Turing and Kierkegaard through a Mathematical Model (튜링과 키에르케고어: 수학적 모델을 통한 이해)

  • This paper aims to compare and contrast Kierkegaard and Turing, whose birth dates were one hundred years apart, analyzing them from the perspective of the limit. The model of analysis is two concentric circles and movement in them and on the boundary of outer circle. In the model, Kierkegaard's existential stages have 1:1 correspondences: aesthetic stage, ethical stage, religious stage A and religious stage B correspond to inside of the inner circle, outside of the inner circle, the boundary of the outer circle and the outside of the outer circle, respectively. This paper claims that Turing belongs to inside of the outer circle and moves to the center while Kierkegaard belongs to outside of the outer circle and moves to the infinity. Both of them have movement of potential infinity but their directions are opposite.

Lattice-based strongly-unforgeable forward-secure identity-based signature scheme with flexible key update

  • Forward-secure signature is a specific type of signature, which can mitigate the damage caused by the signing key exposure. Most of the existing forward-secure (identity-based) signature schemes can update users' secret keys at each time period, achieve the existential unforgeability, and resist against classical computer attacks. In this paper, we first revisit the framework of forward-secure identity-based signatures, and aim at supporting flexible key update at multi time period. Then we propose a post-quantum forward-secure identity-based signature scheme from lattices and use the basis delegation technique to provide flexible key update. Finally, we prove that the proposed scheme is strongly unforgeable under the short integer solution (SIS) hardness assumption in the random oracle model.

Two Specificity markers etten and han in Korean (두 특정성 표지 '어떤'과 '한'에 대한 고찰)

  • In this paper I discuss two markers for specificity, etten and han, in Korean. First, I discuss their structural properties and claim that etten is a determiner, and han is a numeral preceded by an implicit existential quantifier. Then I discuss four uses of etten and two uses of han, and show when they are used as specificity markers. There are various properties of the two specificity markers, some of which they have in common. I take them as properties of specificity markers in general. The properties only one of them has are taken to come from the original meanings of the two morphemes. I claim that specific indefinites range over individual concepts, which lead to the properties they have in common.

Effect of Spiritual Nursing Care on Meaning of Life and Spiritual Well-Being of Terminal Cancer Older Adult Patients (영적 간호중재가 노인 말기 암환자의 삶의 의미와 영적 안녕에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was to analysis the effect of spiritual nursing care on meaning of life and spiritual well-being of terminal cancer older adult patients. Method: The study was a one group pre-posttest design. Data collection and intervention were performed from May 10 to December 20, 2007. The participants were 28 older adults in Jeonju city. Data was analyzed with paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient using the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Result: Meaning of life, spiritual well-being, religious well-being and existential well-being scores were significantly higher than before spiritual nursing care (all p<.001). Meaning of life and the spiritual well-being were significantly correlated before and after spiritual nursing care, but it was not highly correlated after than before the spiritual nursing care. Conclusion: The study verified spiritual nursing care the improvement of the meaning of life and spiritual well-being for the terminal cancer older adult patients.

  • The language of architecture is a kind of tool which helps people to experience the environment not as the thing itself but as a meaningful one. It, gathered by place, constitutes 'genius loci', as the existential structures. It, in other words, gives a thing 'cognitive quality', and serve people to 'dwell' because 'a place is a gathering thing with concrete presence.' Our environment, only when it possesses the language, presents itself as a namable thing or an understood world. Such a meaningful identification is dwelling. The modern world is a complex melting-pot. It is 'complexities' and 'contradiction'. The language of architecture is never created, rather it is selected by needs of the time and the place. In this sense, architectural design means discovery and interpretation of the poetic order of architypal form and style, and the poetic order is a way for people to dwell in the humanistic sense. These reminds me of Martin Heidegger's statement : "Architecture belongs to poetry, and its purpose is to help man to dwell."

Definiteness Effect: Definiteness Restriction and Indefiniteness Restriction (한정성 효과: 한정성 제약과 비한정성 제약)

  • I argue that Definiteness Effect (DE) should include Indefiniteness Restriction (IR) as well as Definiteness Restriction (DR). DR is exhibited by existential constructions, predicate nominals, inalienable possession constructions, and verbs with semantic features like 〔((CAUSE TO) COME TO) EXIST〕. IR is caused by some existence presupposition of aspectual adverbs, aspectual verbs, repetitives, and topic markers. The environments for DR and IR determine the (in)definiteness of Korean bare noun phrases which otherwise can be used either way. The neutralization of DR is also induced by focus which imposes a certain amount of structure on the event quantification. Van der Sandt's (1992) Presuppositions-as- Anaphora-Theory is effectively used to account for those examples from DR, ID, and the neutralization of BR.

A Study on M. Bulgakov's Metadrama (불가코프의 메타드라마 연구)

  • This paper focuses on the specificities and semantic meaning of Mikhail Bulgakov's metadrama White Guard and The Flight. The standard conception of metadrama is to purposefully break the dramatic illusion and make bare a playwright's self-consciousness of the theatrical art itself. With the use of the metadrama Bulgakov expressed the essentials of ugly reality, which he couldn't accept as a valuable truth. In this respect, Bulgakov's metadrama becomes at once a window, from which he views the external world in the theatrical vision, and a mirror, in which his political and existential stance as a playwright is reflected. In White Guard Bulgakov described the already theatricalized reality through several instances of 'play-within-play'. In The Flight, composed of eight pieces of dream, a life turned out to be a less solid and less firm reality than dream. Continuously demolishing the cognitive wall between reality and illusion, Bulgakov leads spectators to have a reflective view on the reality. Allowing more powerful demonstrativeness for a play-within-play than for a play-within-play, Bulgakov elevates a metadramatic technique to the level of thematic structure.
